Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren have been added to the cast list for the new Guy Ritchie TV show on Paramount+ with Showtime. The project is currently untitled.
The streamer is describing it as an “electrifying, new global crime series” that focuses on “two warring families and the loyal fixer charged with protecting one of them at any cost.” Production is underway in London right now.
Hardy plays Harry Da Souza, a professional conciliator on behalf of the Harrigan family. Brosnan takes on the role of Conrad Harrigan, the head of a successful Irish crime family based out of London for whom Harry works. And Mirren will sink her teeth into Maeve Harrigan, Conrad’s wife and the Harrigan family matriarch.

Helen Mirren made a welcome return to TV with her stunning Western series “1923” opposite the inimitable Harrison Ford. The series is another show from Taylor Sheridan‘s Western world, which started off with Kevin Costner‘s “Yellowstone” and also includes the prequel “1883.”
This one is set in between those two shows and follows Mirren and Ford as married couple Cara and Jacob Dutton, who lead their family through a variety of challenges in the early 20th century, including the prohibition era and the Great Depression. As Cara, Mirren owns the screen with her Dame-like presence and commands your attention in every scene she’s in. She’s introduced with a shotgun but doesn’t need such props to show what a powerful actress she is. She’s a force to be reckoned with, as usual, as critics have noted.

“Yellowstone” may have been shut out at the 2022 Emmys, but Paramount+’s Western spinoff “1923” is hoping to break that cycle.
Creator Taylor Sheridan, who wrote the entire first season of the freshman series, has chosen to submit the premiere episode, titled “1923,” for Emmy consideration, Variety can exclusively confirm. In addition, the same kickoff episode will serve as Ben Richardson’s official submission for outstanding directing for a drama.
Read Variety’s Awards Circuit for the latest Emmy predictions in all categories.
The eight-episode prequel to Paramount Network’s “Yellowstone” and sequel to Paramount+’s “1883” follows a generation of the Dutton family during various hardships, including prohibition, drought and the early stages of the Great Depression.
With the star power of veteran actors Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, the duo will be vying for the lead actor and lead actress drama prizes.

Dame Helen Mirren is no stranger to the Emmy podium. The Oscar and Tony-winning actress has earned five Emmy statues from 12 nominations over the course of her nearly fifty-year career in television. Despite that impressive track record the actress has never earned an Emmy nomination for a performance on a series. That should change this year thanks to her commanding performance as the Dutton family matriarch in the Paramount+ hit “1923.”
In this second prequel series to Taylor Sheridan’s “Yellowstone,” Mirren stars as Cara Dutton, wife of family patriarch Jacob Dutton (Harrison Ford). Over the course of the show’s first season, Cara is forced to take charge of the family after Jacob is nearly killed by a rival rancher, leaving the ranch vulnerable to all manner of encroachers.

Since her work on “The Dropout” has already brought her an Emmy, a Golden Globe, and a Critics Choice Award, Amanda Seyfried only needs a Screen Actors Guild Award in order to complete her major industry TV prize sweep. Based on the fact that no woman who has been nominated for all four awards and won the Emmy first has failed to win the other three, her path to victory is arguably clearer than that of any other 2023 SAG Award contender. If she is successful on this final bid, she will be the 12th woman to win both a lead Emmy and a SAG Award for the same TV movie or miniseries performance.

Hulu’s comedy series “The Great” premiered on May 15 with its true(ish) story of the rise of Catherine the Great in Russia. It’s actually the second program this season chronicling the life and rule of the empress, following HBO’s limited series “Catherine the Great” last fall. That means there could be two actors nominated for Emmys for playing the same role.

Helen Mirren reprised her Oscar-winning portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II on Broadway this season in “The Audience" and bagged her first Tony for her efforts. She won one of her four Emmys for portraying the reigning monarch's ancestor, Elizabeth I, in an HBO miniseries (the other three are for two seasons of “Prime Suspect” and “The Passion of Ayn Rand”). Now, she only needs a Grammy to become the 14th person to complete the Egot. In keeping with her winning ways when she plays women named Elizabeth, perhaps she could record some of Elizabeth Barret Browning's poems. -Break- Mirren had been the overwhelming frontrunner to win Best Actress (Play) this year, having already claimed an Olivier Award for the London run of the play which looks at the 60-plus reign of Elizabeth II through her weekly meetings with her prime ministers (12 and counting). Helen Mirren is not high on the list of people we'd expect to find on "Glee," but, in fact, Helen Mirren will be on "Glee" in January.
More or less, anyway. TVLine reports the Oscar and Emmy winner has done some voice-over work for the episode scheduled for Jan. 17 but won't actually appear on screen.
Here's the deal: The show wrote the voice-only role with Mirren in mind -- she'll provide the "inner voice" of one of the characters, whose identity is being kept secret for now. Producers then sent regular "Glee" director Eric Stoltz, a friend who co-starred with Mirren in "The Passion of Ayn Rand" a few years ago, to approach Mirren about the role.
She said yes, and earlier this month she recorded "several long and hilarious monologues" for the character -- we're going to guess Brittany (Heather Morris) -- and visited the cast. "They had no idea she was coming,...

Helen Mirren is so hardworking that it is tempting to take her for granted. But she is always looking for something different
Have you seen the wild look in Helen Mirren's eyes? It's as if she knows the world has gone mad, so she can do anything. The pained realism and long-suffering compromises that dogged Jane Tennison in Prime Suspect are put aside. She has been Queen Elizabeth, both I and II, and if anyone cared to propose an Elizabeth of Transylvania from the Dark Ages then Mirren could do it. Or if you prefer a bloodthirsty and lascivious pope, she is your actor. At 65, she is still one of the sexiest women on screen. It's not what she does, but what she knows.
Mirren has never been anything less than accomplished and bold, but Stephen Frears' The Queen was a confirming potion for her, a laying on of hands.

Sandra Bullock, 'The Blind Side'For years, Sandra Bullock has charmed audiences with endearing turns in films like "While You Were Sleeping," "Miss Congeniality," and "Two Weeks Notice." While most people associate her with romantic comedies, Bullock has also turned in terrific dramatic performances in films like "Crash" and the underrated "Infamous." She probably didn't have awards aspirations when she signed on to play Leigh Anne Tuohy, the wealthy Memphis matriarch who takes in an African-American teenager named Michael Oher and helps him launch a football career, in "The Blind Side."On the page, the role could smack of condescending schmaltz, with lines like "You threaten my son, you threaten me." Yet when asserted by Bullock, with a perfect Tennessee twang, they work. And she gets off some great ones, such as when she warns one person, "If you so much as set foot downtown, you will be sorry.

Mirren Considers Auctioning Off Emmy Shoes
British actress Helen Mirren is considering auctioning off the high-heeled shoes that almost led to her most embarrassing moment at the Emmy Awards. The Prime Suspect star, who just won an Emmy for Elizabeth I, stumbled when she walked to the stage to pick up her Best Actress award and then upset family groups across America by joking she almost fell "a**e over tit." Now, Mirren, who doubts she'll ever wear the designer shoes again, is thinking about selling them off for charity. She says, "I may auction them off." The actress previously won an Emmy for her role in The Passion of Ayn Rand.
