After the death of it's director, Takeyuki Kanda, on July 27, 1996; the release of the remaining six episodes became delayed. Nearly one year later in 1997, Umanosuke Iida took over the project just after completing Oira uchû no tankôfu (1994). The release schedule was more relaxed in the latter half in comparison to the first half due to Iida's work as planner for Ao no roku go (1998) and many of Sunrise's staffs became busy working on Cowboy Bebop (1998).

Mami Koyama (as Karen Joshua), Ichirô Nagai (as Jidan Nickerd), Tesshô Genda (as Terry Sanders), Masashi Hirose (as Balest Rosita) have previously starred in Mobile Suit Gundam (1979) as Kycilia and Degwin Sodo Zabi, Slegger Law and Ramba Ral. Only Banjô Ginga reprised his role as Gihren Zabi for Futari dake no Sensou (1996).
Incidentally, Umanosuke Iida (who replaced Takeyuki Kanda following his tragic accident), would also pass away during production of Eternal Quon 1: The Ephemeral Petal (2011) and then was replaced by Takeshi Mori, who like Ilda, was an unknown.
