The Hulu half-hour comedy series Chad Powers has added Clayne Crawford (The Finestkind), Xavier Mills (Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire), Colton Ryan (Poker Face) and Toby Huss (Fatal Attraction) to its recurring cast.

They join previously announced series regulars Glen Powell as Russ Holliday/Chad Powers, Perry Mattfeld as Ricky, Quentin Plair as Coach Byrd, Wynn Everett as Tricia, Frankie A. Rodriguez as Danny and Steve Zahn as Jake Hudson.

Fairy Tail 2, the upcoming anime action game, has now revealed its first full trailer, alongside a date for its release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. The title has also announced the collectibles and pre-order bonuses that will come with it.

The official PlayStation YouTube channel uploaded the new trailer for Fairy Tail 2, which will be released on Dec. 13, 2024. Unlike the previous announcement video, this is the games first full trailer that showcases all the new gameplay additions, such as new playable characters, special attacks and teamwork-based action sequences. More importantly, the new Fairy Tail 2 game covers the final anime storyline featuring the Spriggan 12. Zeref Dragneel, the older brother of Natsu Dragneel, leads the dastardly group against the heroic Fairy Tail guild.

Prime Video is the place to be in August with an incredible month of new releases. The month kicks off with the premiere of the animated series Batman: Caped Crusader on Aug. 1. The series was produced by J.J. Abrams and The Batman‘s Matt Reeves. We also return to Middle Earth this month with the premiere of The Rings of Power season 2 on Aug. 29.

As far as movies go, the Amazon original Jackpot! arrives on Aug. 15 starring Awkwafina and John Cena. This comedy is set in a world where Lottery winners have to survive until sundown in order to claim their multi-billion dollar jackpot – anyone who kills them before that gets to claim their prize.

The Hobbit trilogy also joins the Prime Video library this month, as do 21 and 22 Jump Street, Superman I-iv, Superman Returns, Night Swim, Drive Away Dolls, and 10 Cloverfield Lane.

The African American Film Critics Association, representing the largest group of Black film critics globally, said Friday it has partnered with Delta Air Lines to curate a collection of films that celebrate Black History Month.

This in-flight collaboration marks a first for Aafca and promises to bring diverse stories representing the Black cinema experience to Delta customers during the month of February.

The films featured in this collection have been selected by Aafca members, working closely with Delta’s In-flight Entertainment team and Bold, Delta’s Black Community Business Resource Group, to encompass a range of genres and narratives that showcase the richness and depth of Black-themed stories in film.

“In-flight movies offer a great way to discover titles that were previously unknown to me,” says Aafca president, Gil Robertson. “Over the years, I have been introduced to phenomenal stories that broadened my point of view about different people and cultures from around the world.

Kicking October to the curb and bringing in some November goodness is a fresh slate of new content headed to Paramount Global’s streamer Paramount+, including the sequel to the hit 1997 film “Good Burger.”

Paramount+ started off November by adding more than 30 titles to its library, some of which include “Above the Rim,” Season 15 of “Ink Master,” “Gladiator” and “The Color Purple.”

Diggs can next be seen leading the two-part BET+ film Love & Murder: Atlanta Playboy based on the true crime story of businessman Lance Herndon. In the film, Diggs stars as Lance (Diggs), a successful Atlanta businessman, renowned in equal measure for both revolutionizing the city’s 911 system, and his womanizing ways. When he is found murdered in his own home, questions and allegations abound as to who might have wanted him dead.

Exclusive: The African American Film Critics Association (Aafca) will commemorate Hip-Hop’s 50th anniversary with a screening series that spotlights the genre’s lasting influence on the cinematic arts. The selected films will serve as the centerpiece of Aafca’s sixth annual summer screening series, -a nationwide program that provides a platform for films that illuminate the African American experience. Running from July to October, the screenings will take place in Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Washington DC, with additional dates expected to be added.

“As hip hop celebrates fifty years, the members of Aafca are thrilled to pay homage to the culture that the art form has inspired,” says Gil Robertson, president of the organization. “With deliberate intention given to the sounds, dance, and storylines inherent to the genre, hip hop has made rich contributions to the cinematic landscape, which have captivated audiences in the States and around the world.

Where, when, and how you can watch “Yellowstone” has always been a bit confusing. It normally airs on [Parmaount Network], where it is the most popular show on television. However, the show doesn’t stream on Paramount+, but instead is available on-demand on Peacock. But, for three days starting on May 27, the first three seasons will be available on a free linear channel on Paramount-owned Pluto TV.

A series of changes have taken place at Showtime. Variety has confirmed the network has canceled “Ziwe” after just two seasons and has picked up Mandy Patinkin’s “Seasoned” to series, delivering a six-episode order.

Hosted and executive produced by comedian Ziwe Fumudoh, the talk show focused on presenting trending hot topics concerning race, politics and other cultural issues as well as musical numbers, interviews, guest stars and comedic sketches. Guests on Season 2 included Drew Barrymore, Rowan Blanchard, Blake Griffin, Emily Ratajkowski and Mia Khalifa, among others. The series first debuted in 2021.

With the loss, that leaves Showtime without a current late night talk show following the cancellation of “Desus & Mero” (which Ziwe also served as a writer on before moving to her own show). Ziwe Fumudoh’s list of iconic guests has run short. The comedian’s Showtime talk show “Ziwe” has been canceled at the premium cable network after two seasons, IndieWire has confirmed.

In addition, the channel has given a six-episode season order to “Seasoned,” a new comedy show starring real-life married couple Mandy Patinkin and Kathryn Grody; co-created and co-written by their son Gideon Grody-Patinkin and Ewen Wright, the show is directly inspired by the pair’s real-life relationship. The channel also passed on the pilot for “The Wood,” a comedy series based on the 1999 film from Rick Famuyiwa. Finally, Showtime acquired “Heist 88,” a crime thriller film starring Courtney B. Vance, and will premiere it as an original after it was originally scheduled to premiere on Paramount+.

The premium cable network, which was added to the Paramount Global exec’s purview last year, has canceled late night talk show Ziwe after two seasons. Additionally, Showtime has made decisions on two of its three comedy pilots, handing out a series order to Mandy Patinkin family comedy Seasoned while passing on The Wood. What’s more, the original movie Heist 88 starring Courtney B. Vance, has moved from Paramount+ to Showtime.

The changes come as McCarthy has identified three different programming groups for his vision of Showtime, which is being rebranded as Paramount+ With Showtime in a bid to better align the streamer and linear network: franchises, diverse cultures and antiheroes.

Showtime will not be moving forward with a third season of “Flatbush Misdemeanors,” Variety has confirmed. The news comes after the network aired the series’ Season 2 finale on Aug. 21.

The Kevin Iso and Dan Perlman comedy series followed the two creators as they settled into their new lives, struggling to survive in Flatbush, Brooklyn. Kristin Dodson, Hassan Johnson and Kareem Green were amongst the cast.

Rapper Vince Staples is set to headline his own scripted comedy series at Netflix. The streamer has given a series order to The Vince Staples Show, starring and executive produced by the critically acclaimed artist, actor and creator, from Kenya Barris and his Khalabo Ink Society.

Set in Long Beach, CA, the fictional series is loosely inspired by Staples’ life.

Showtime has given a pilot order to comedy The Wood, based on the 1999 feature film, from Justin Hillian, Rick Famuyiwa and Showtime sibling Paramount Television Studios.

Famuyiwa, who co-wrote and directed the film, will direct the pilot and executive produce with Hillian, who will pen the script. The pilot order was announced during Showtime’s virtual TCA presentation Tuesday.

Showtime renewed “Flatbush Misdemeanors” for a second season and ordered a pilot titled “The Wood” from “The Chi’s” Justin Hillian and Rick Famuyiwa.

“Flatbush Misdemeanors,” which premiered its first season in May on the premium cabler, follows longtime friends Dan (Dan Perlman) and Kevin (Kevin Iso), who struggle to thrive while living in Brooklyn, N.Y. It’s an adaptation of Iso and Perlman’s digital series of the same title and is created by Iso and Perlman, executive produce alongside Richard Allen-Turner, Jon Thoday, David Martin and Chloe Pisello.

The show is a co-production between Showtime and Avalon; Avalon will continue to act as the lead studio on Season 2. Season 1 cast also included Kristin Dodson, Hassan Johnson, Kareem Green and Kerry Coddett.

Famuyiwa will direct the pilot and executive produce alongside “The Chi” showrunner Justin Hillian, who will write the script.

Rick Famuyiwa will direct the upcoming docuseries on Lakers great Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Variety has learned.

The “Dope” filmmaker will work alongside editor Dirk Westervelt (“Ford Vs. Ferrari”) and Rachel Morrison (“Black Panther”), who have already begun pre-production on the film. The series, which has been likened to ESPN’s penetrating look at Michael Jordan, “The Last Dance,” is jointly produced by Xtr, H.wood Media, Nsv and Delirio Films.

It currently lacks a title, but is expected to be completed in 2021. The docuseries will feature archival footage of the Basketball Hall of Famer’s on-court heroics, as well as interviews with Johnson, his family, teammates, and business associates.

Hulu is out with its list of everything coming and going on the streaming service in June.

Highlights include a new episode of the Hulu original anthology series “Into the Dark” called “Good Boy,” which follows Maggie (Judy Greer), who gets an emotional support dog for her anxiety — but little does she know, he kills anyone who adds stress to her life. Also, take a closer look at the hip-hop group Lin-Manuel Miranda was in before he did “Hamilton” in a new documentary called “We Are Freestyle Love Supreme.”

Leaving at the end of the month are classics like “Bend It Like Beckham,” “Blazing Saddles” and “Kill Bill” volumes one and two.

There are a lot of popular streaming platforms to choose from, but Hulu has always stood alongside Netflix as one of the two essentials for households looking for diversity in content. In the past, they’ve been known for focusing more heavily on newer television content, while Netflix has always offered a larger selection of sought-after films. But now, it looks like Hulu’s June lineup is only going to continue the service’s recent trend of providing high quality movies to bring itself in line with their competitor.

First up, you can get wholesome with Mr. Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, which tells the story of an investigative journalist who learns some hard life lessons from one of television’s most beloved personalities. You can then supplement that wholesomeness with My Girl and My Girl 2 for some wonderful 90s nostalgia.

June 2020 is set to be a big month for the whole streaming Disney family. Not only will ESPN+ have the entirety of The Last Dance on its servers for late-adopting sports fans to catch up with, but Disney+ will be premiering its long-awaited Artemis Fowl film. Over on its biggest streaming service in Hulu, however, Disney is taking things a bit more slowly.

This month finds only three major original releases for Hulu. Animated medieval comedy Crossing Swords premieres on June 12, then Ya love story Love Victor and cooking show Taste the Nation with Padma Lakshmi both arrive on June 19. All in all, that’s not a bad haul for originals for the typically slow summer months.

June 1 sees a pretty impressive crop of movies coming to Hulu’s library as well. October Sky, The X-Files (1998), and Casino will all be ready to stream at the beginning of the month.

In the late 1990s and well into the ’00s, there was a wave of black-centered romances that became wildly popular including Love & Basketball, The Wood, How Stella Got Her Groove Back, Love Jones, Brown Sugar and The Best Man. Fast forward to 2020, and we are seeing a steady resurgence of black love stories in films like The Photograph, from friend of the podcast Stella Meghie, as well as Queen & Slim written by Lena Waithe and directed by Melina Matsoukas — also friends of the pod.

Modern black love stories are now making their way to TV with Ava DuVernay’s anthology series Cherish the Day starring Xosha Roquemore — who is this week’s guest on New Hollywood.

Director Patrick Lussier and screenwriter Todd Farmer's new Halloween-themed horror flick Trick has just added Omar Epps to the cast which already includes the likes of Tom Atkins, and Jamie Kennedy. Ellen Adair and Kristina Reyes also star.

The story centers on an elusive serial killer, who descends upon a small town annually. He is responsible for gruesome murders year after year, each seemingly unrelated. No one believes this could be the same killer. Epps will be playing the lead role of Detective Denver who has faced Trick once before, having shot and killed him. Or so everyone keeps telling him. However, Denver knows Trick is still out there, and he's coming back for revenge.

Rick Famuyiwa, the writer and director of film such as Dope, Brown Sugar, and The Wood, is set to direct an upcoming fantasy adventure film from Fox 2000 called Children of Blood and Bone.

The acclaimed African-inspired fantasy novel, Children of Blood and Bone, is getting a movie adaptation with Rick Famuyiwa set to direct.

Children of Blood and Bone arrived in 2018 as a refreshing Ya fantasy offering that eschews the genre’s obligatory array of sexy monsters and post-apocalypstic scenarios, centering itself in the arena of African mysticism, focused exclusively on African characters. With the novel’s 25-year-old Nigerian-American author, Tomi Adeyemi, already set to release a sequel novel this December [aggressive glances at George R.R. Martin], the inevitable call from Hollywood has been made, and a film adaptation is coming!

Rick Famuyiwa, who has written and directed films like The Wood, Brown Sugar, and Dope, has been tapped to helm Fox 2000’s Children of Blood and Bone, an action fantasy film based on the New York Times bestselling novel by Nigerian-American author Tomi Adeyemi.

The novel was released in March of last year, via Henry Holt Books for Young Readers, with the follow-up, Children of Virtue and Vengeance, slated to hit shelves in June.

Cassandra Butcher has been hired as Bron Studios’ new chief marketing officer, studio founders Aaron Gilbert and Brenda Gilbert announced on Wednesday.

Butcher joins Bron from Fox Searchlight where she spent more than 10 years as vice president of national publicity.

In her new role, Butcher will oversee all of the company’s marketing campaigns and liaise with Bron’s distribution and sales partners, while also serving as a part of the development and production process. She’ll work alongside chief content officer Anjay Nagpal and recently appointed chief strategy officer Ashley Levinson.

John Carter, a pioneering African-American film editor behind such films as “Friday,” “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit,” “Lean on Me” and the Academy Award-nominated Martin Luther King documentary “King: A Filmed Record… Montgomery to Memphis,” has died. He was 95 years old.

Carter, the first black member of the American Cinema Editors, died peacefully on Aug. 13 at his home in White Plains, New York, his family reported.

His career spanned four decades, during which he put his editing touch to more than 50 feature films, including 1968’s “Paper Lion,” “The Formula,” starring Marlon Brando and “Karate Kid Part III.” Carter also served as editor for a number of black-centric films, such as “The Five Heartbeats” — a musical drama loosely based on The Temptations and The Four Tops — “Boomerang,” “Set it Off,” “Soul Food” and “The Wood.”

Back in late September, director Rick Famuyiwa teased that he had finished his script revisions on The Flash, hinting that Ray Fisher's Cyborg will be part of the story. Today we have word that the filmmaker has left the project, with the studio searching for a director once again. Rick Famuyiwa came aboard in June, replacing Seth Grahame-Smith, who dropped out back in April.

The Hollywood Reporter had the news today, revealing that Rick Famuyiwa left the project due to "creative differences" with Warner Bros. The report adds that the filmmaker was going for an "edgier" approach to The Flash, which clashed with the studio's plans. Here's what Rick Famuyiwa had to say about his departure in a statement.

Back in late April, it was announced that writer-director Seth Grahame-Smith had parted ways with Warner Bros.' superhero adaptation The Flash, due to creative differences with the studio. That report revealed Warner Bros. was still planning on keeping the script Seth Grahame-Smith wrote, based off a treatment written by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Today we have word that the studio has found Seth Grahame-Smith's replacement, with Dope director Rick Famuyiwa signing on.

Deadline reports that a deal should be hammered out quickly for the director, while confirming that the studio is still keeping Seth Grahame-Smith's script. The project would have marked Seth Grahame-Smith's directing debut, although the studio reportedly wanted a more seasoned director at the helm. Rick Famuyiwa's vision is said to be very "compatible" with the script, with the studio believing that his take will resonate with younger viewers.
