Up until Ocean's Twelve (2004), Julia Roberts refused to do sequels to Pretty Woman (1990) or any of her movies. She only agreed to appear in Runaway Bride if it was a stand-alone story.
Julia Roberts, Richard Gere, Hector Elizondo, Kathleen Marshall, the uncredited Larry Miller (NYC barman),Patrick Richwood and the film's director Gary Marshall all appeared together in Pretty Woman (1990).
In real life, Julia Roberts canceled her own wedding to Kiefer Sutherland only a few days before the ceremony in 1991.
Production descended upon the small town of Berlin, Md., turning it into the fictional and quirky Hale, Md. for the movie, and put close to $1 million into the local economy, upped the real estate market and almost doubling tourism after the film's release. "I have been totally amazed," Berlin's then Chamber president told The Baltimore Sun of the impact the movie had on the town of just 3,000 people. "The movie was the Midas touch that introduced our town to a lot of people. It put us on the map." Once named "America's Coolest Small Town" by Budget Travel, hosting the Roberts-Gere vehicle is still a point of pride for Berlin.
