This short film by Jerzy Skolimowski freaked me out for a long time and I'm still trying to find a meaning beyond the thrilling sequences. In "Erotyk", a young woman )
(Elzbieta Czyzewska) cleans up a mirror from her shop or her house (can't tell exactly) and she's all happy and singing until she notices a strange man in the background,
played by Gustaw Holoubek. He walks slowly towards her and keeps telling her to not be afraid but she slowly moves away from him. The more words of calm he demands, the sinister
he gets and things eventually evolve to an unwanted touch, he grabs her from time to time and even mistreats her dog, until a persecution inside the small place begins in this
place surrounded by newspapers covering the whole space.
Editing techinique with fast cuts, lots of close-up on the actors expressive faces and the whole tension building up much to disturb our nerves, is all incredible. It's
an incredible experience. Most will see it as a psychologial study of the human pysche - maybe the man's is a past trauma of hers that suddenly got relived as it happens with
most people when they are experience a good time in their lives and somehow they are reminded of a problem or a trauma from the past and it grows on you for a long time and
you find the need to escape it. I guess you can "Erotyk" in such a way, but also one must pay a special attention to Elzbieta because in a very subtle way she seems to indicate
that she might a strange fascination by this subject, in some ways she allows him to get near her (though she's frightened whenever he makes a more intimate move). Many
deductions and conjectures can be made about this film and that's why it's so great to watch. 7/10.
