Bernard Calloway (City On A Hill) is set as the male lead opposite her in the pilot from the Empire duo of co-creator/executive Lee Daniels and executive producer Brian Grazer, Imagine Television and Fox 21 Studios, a division of Disney TV Studios.
The project, which had been set up at Fox with a different writer during the 2016-17 season, where it had a put pilot commitment, had quietly found a new home at Hulu where it was recently greenlighted to pilot. Debbie Allen is directing from a script by Jordan E. Cooper, who was a writer on Daniels’ Fox drama Star.

Heading into next week’s Upfronts, the Disney-owned network has decided to renew the Nathan Fillion led series for a second season.
The pick-up for another cycle comes as ratings have been strong-ish for the show. The Rookie has averaged a 1.4 demo rating and 7.59 total viewers season-to-date.
In the show that debuted last October, Castle vet Fillion plays John Nolan, the oldest rookie in the Lapd. At an age where most men are at the peak of their career, Nolan cast aside his comfortable, small town life and moved to L.A. to pursue his dream of being a police officers. Now, surrounded by newbies that are decades younger than him, a much-mocked Nolan has to weave through personal and professional challenges and gain the respect of his colleagues to make his second shot at life count.

Another Viacom series is switching networks — First Wives Club, which was slated to debut on Paramount Network in January, will instead air on sibling Bet.
At Paramount Network, First Wives Club starring Ryan Michelle Bathe, Jill Scott and Michelle Buteau was slated to launch the network’s new Thursday dramedy night in January. It was be followed by Younger Season 6 and new series Emily in Paris, both from Darren Star, slated to debut on the same night in spring and summer, respectively.
I hear the concept for a dramedy-branded night on Paramount Network is now being reevaluated, along with the future of Younger and Emily in Paris on the network. The former had been a hit on TV Land for five seasons and, while the comedy-focused Viacom channel recently canceled its last remaining original scripted series, Teachers, it left the door open to featuring such content in the future.

Raising Dion, a Netflix production, follows the story of Nicole Reese (Wainwright), who raises her son Dion (Young) after the death of her husband Mark (Jordan). The normal dramas of raising a son as a single mom are amplified when Dion starts to manifest several magical, superhero-like abilities. Nicole must now keep her son’s gifts secret with the help of Mark’s best friend Pat (Ritter), and protect Dion from antagonists out to exploit him while figuring out the origin of his abilities.

Madeleine Mantock, Melonie Diaz, Sarah Jeffery – “Charmed” (CW)
The CW’s “Charmed” reboot features three new faces as the Charmed Ones. Mantock previously starred in AMC’s “Into the Badlands” as Veil. Diaz has had roles in shows like “Room 104” and “The Breaks.” Jeffery has appeared on “Shades of Blue” and “The X-Files.” But starring as three witch sisters in “Charmed” — which The CW is hoping to be a successful drama with its Sunday night time slot after “Supergirl” — will put these ladies front and center.
Daniel Ezra – “All American” (CW)
Ezra has previously appeared on series like “The Missing” and “Prime Suspect 1973.” His character Spencer is the new face of Beverly High football — and Ezra is the new face of Greg Berlanti’s high school drama that gives us “Friday Night Lights” vibes. Are we looking at the next Michael B. Jordan?
