The critical and commercial performances of Morbius and Madame Web likely won't have helped matters. Today, The Cosmic Circus brings word on some of the "Sony's Spider-Man Universe" movies considered by Sony.

"They have ideas in development all the time, but maybe a fraction of them ever actually see the light," the site explains. "There’s been talk of characters like Silver Sable, Black Cat, Sandman, Rhino, Chameleon & Scorpion all had pitches and ideas for movies.

Madame Web star Isabela Merced kept her Marvel casting private from DC Studios out of fear it would cost her a role in Superman: Legacy.

Set to drop in movie theaters on Feb. 14, Madame Web features a cast of characters that includes Isabela Merced as Anya Corazon, aka Araña. Though it's set in Sony's Spider-Man Universe and not the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's very much a Marvel movie. As it's a film inspired by a competitor's comic books, Merced was concerned that she wouldn't be cast in the Dcu when she was up for Hawkgirl in Superman: Legacy. Speaking about the situation with ComicBook.com, Merced admitted to intentionally keeping her casting in a Marvel film a secret when she was in talks to join Superman: Legacy, feeling like she may not have been afforded the opportunity to do both projects.

Madame Web director S.J. Clarkson explained the reason behind the Parker family's inclusion in Sony Pictures’ upcoming Spider-Man spinoff.

Ahead of Madame Web’s impending theatrical debut, Clarkson confirmed that Peter Parker’s Uncle Ben and mother Mary Parker are indeed appearing in the Dakota Johnson-led superhero movie. Speaking with ComicBookMovie.com's Josh Wilding, the British filmmaker revealed that including Ben and Mary in the titular hero’s origin story served as their "homage" to the character’s first comic book appearance. As for the actors playing Peter Parker’s family, even though Sony Pictures has yet to officially confirm it, Adam Scott and Emma Roberts have already been listed as Ben Parker and Mary Parker on the film’s IMDb page.

Madame Web director S.J. Clarkson, who also helmed a few episodes of Netflix’s Marvel shows, explained why the Spider-Man spinoff has some similarities with the Jessica Jones series.

During a recent interview with Total Film, Clarkson revealed that Madame Web has the same "grounded" and "gritty" tone as the Jessica Jones series, which only lasted for three seasons from 2015-2019. The filmmaker also found comparisons between Dakota Johnson’s Cassandra Webb and Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, describing both heroes as "loners." She added, "[They’re both] a little bit abrasive, a bit quirky, and on the outer edges of things. With JJ, she had Ptsd. That [sense of] reality to it was its success in a way. I suppose it's the same with Madame Web."

Sydney Sweeney received her first official Spider-Woman poster amidst a new promotional campaign for Marvel and Sony Pictures' Madame Web. 

Best known for Euphoria and most recently Anyone But You, Sweeney joined Sony's Spider-Man Universe and the cast of Madame Web in 2022 where she was later revealed to be playing Julia Carpenter. 

In Marvel Comics, Julia Carpenter was known as Marvel's second Spider-Woman and eventually Cassandra Webb's successor.

The video features extended footage of Dakota Johnson’s Cassandra Webb, as she discovers her clairvoyant abilities. This newly-acquired power leads her to a dangerous mission, which involves keeping three young women safe from a powerful enemy, Tahar Rahim’s Ezekiel Sims. It’s up to Johnson’s titular character to prevent Ezekiel from changing the trio’s future as Spider-Women. The 30-second teaser offers a new look at Sydney Sweeney’s Julia Carpenter, Celeste O’Connor’s Mattie Franklin, and Isabela Merced’s Anya Corazon in their respective superhero suits.

Sydney Sweeney was bitten by a spider on a movie set, though it was oddly enough not the film that stars the Euphoria favorite as Spider-Woman.

Sweeney, who's also appeared in films like Americana and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, will be playing the Julia Carpenter incarnation of Spider-Woman in Sony's upcoming movie Madame Web. Before then, she'll be co-starring with Glen Powell in the new rom-com Anyone But You, which hits theaters later this month. On social media, the fan account Sydney Sweeney Updates shared footage from the behind the scenes of Anyone But You featuring Sweeney with a huntsman spider on her arm. She can be seen reacting in shock and pain when the arachnid apparently bit her for real, which is ironically similar to Spider-Man's famous origin story. The video has since gone viral.

Marvel's Nightmare variant covers feature horrifying situations for their characters, including Spider-Woman losing control of her powers. Peach Momoko's artwork in the Nightmare cover for Spider-Woman #2 gives the character an unsettling, insect-like appearance. The Nightmare variant showcases Spider-Woman's worst fears and presents her as pure nightmare fuel.

Spider-Woman is transformed into pure nightmare fuel as her powers finally go haywire. Marvel has tapped acclaimed artist Peach Momoko to draw a series of “Nightmare” variant covers, showing some of the publisher’s biggest characters in horrifying situations. In the Nightmare variant of Spider-Woman #2, Momoko works her magic on the heroine, forcing Jessica Drew to confront her worst nightmare: losing control of her powers.

Peach Momoko unveiled the Nightmare cover for Spider-Woman #2 in a post on Instagram. The piece gives an otherworldly, almost insect-like quality to Spider-Woman, who stands in the middle of a web. Other insects are caught in it.
