            Clueless.

The film was restored to save it from oblivion.... It's the place where it belongs though! Director Diamant-Berger made duds by the dozen;its precedent work butchered Arsene Lupin.

A Lawyer,a forty-something , meets a young girl ,coming from England ; as this spoilt child is none other than the lawyer's assistant's sister, they meet again in her desirable mansion ; as it oftens happens ,if we are to believe the screenwriters , the lawyer's marriage is on the rocks and, seized by the middle -age lust ,he falls head over heals in love with the clueless girl ,who thinks she has found le grand amour.

A pompous pretentious warning was issued in the cast and credits :the famous parable of the foolish virgins ; connection with the plot is tenuous : this girl should have saved her "oil" for a young guy and not squandered it for a married man twice her age ; and if the message is not clear enough ,the last picture is a lamp going out.....

The young actors' playing (juliette Faber -debut- and Michel André) is terrible and old-fashioned ; Victor Francen ,excellent when he's directed by Duvivier or Gance ,is undistinguished here ; Gabrielle Dorziat saves something from the wreckage ,always a grande dame .

In Spite of the tragic ending ,this is the kind of movie which would make the average viewer dream: at the time, how many people would take a plane? Enjoy rich kids' holidays on the French Rivieira ?

This film is one of over 200 titles in the list of independent feature films made available for television presentation by Advance Television Pictures announced in Motion Picture Herald 4 April 1942. At this time, television broadcasting was in its infancy, almost totally curtailed by the advent of World War II, and would not continue to develop until 1945-1946. Because of poor documentation (feature films were often not identified by title in conventional sources) no record has yet been found of its initial television broadcast.
