Apart from the big screen, Hollywood stars have several personal stories that are equally entertaining, if not more. In this, Seth Rogen’s funny international escapade would definitely be in the top three. The actor, known for his comedic roles, could have truly inspired the fourth installment of The Hangover. While in the movies the cast woke up to tigers and missing teeth, Rogen actually ended up in an entirely different country.

The series received positive reviews across its first and second seasons, while a third installment is already in the works. However, Segel’s acclaimed work on the series wouldn’t have been possible without director Judd Apatow.

0Charlie Hunnam is an English actor best known for Sons of Anarchy, playing the complex and broken Jax Teller. Before Hunnam donned his leather Samcro vest, he first gained recognition as the title character in Douglas McGrath's Nicholas Nickelby, based on the Charles Dickens novel of the same name. Hunnam starred in several other notable projects, like Pacific Rim and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.
Back in 2001—before his dramatic work—Charlie Hunnam had a regular role in the Judd Apatow comedy series Undeclared. Undeclared followed a group of college first-year students living in the same dorm at a fictional college in Northern California. A fresh-faced, twenty-one-year-old Charlie Hunnam played Lloyd, a theater student and ladies' man.

"Dungeons & Dragons" is a tricky fantasy brand. Just about everyone knows what it is, and lots of people are quite sure that a role-playing game that requires loads of imagination and a considerable time commitment is not for them -- although, as "Freaks and Geeks" taught us, these folks who think they're anti-d&d are only one campaign away from becoming total converts. This overwhelmingly negative perception some people hold of D&d is likely a big reason why movies based on the game have failed to take off. There's also the fact that the first attempt, 2000's "Dungeons & Dragons," was an unwatchable heap of crap helmed by the shockingly untalented Courtney Solomon. That didn't help at all.
2023's "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves" was a different matter entirely. Directed by Jonathan Goldstein and "Freaks and Geeks" alum John Francis Daley, the film boasted a crackerjack cast that included Chris Pine,...

Many of us were first introduced to Seth Rogen close to 25 years ago when he played Ken Miller, one of the “freaks” in Freaks and Geeks, then, as part of Judd Apatow’s usual group of actors and comedians he liked to work with, in comedy hits like The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Superbad, and the Rogen-starring Knocked Up. It didn’t take long for him to climb the Hollywood ladder, making his feature directorial debut with This Is the End, alongside co-director Evan Goldberg, almost causing an international incident with their second film, The Interview, becoming a producer on projects as varied as The Disaster Artist, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, The Boys, and Pam & Tommy (just to name a few), and starred in films by directors like Steven Spielberg, Danny Boyle, Michel Gondry, and Sarah Polley. Over the course of the 21st century, we’ve basically watched Rogen...

Is there a major comic actor who purely loves movies more than Seth Rogen?
In Hollywood history, there may be comedians with better track records. But it’s hard to think of anyone who seems so excited to be making cinema, whether enlisting David Gordon Green to bring both indie lyricism and ’80s action-comedy violence into the stoner buddy comedy “Pineapple Express” or staging a full-scale apocalypse with dozens of stars playing themselves in “This Is the End,” his directorial debut alongside longtime creative partner Evan Goldberg.
Now Rogen and Goldberg, alongside co-creators Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory and Frida Perez have undertaken one of their most ambitious projects yet with “The Studio.” It’s a satire of the contemporary and constantly imperiled Hollywood machine, shot in richly cinematic textures and a series of uninterrupted takes, featuring an ensemble packed with both stars in major roles and in playing-themselves cameos. Netflix’s latest political thriller, Zero Day, is one of the most star-studded small-screen ventures released this year, chock-full of A-list actors. Setting aside the narrative, which is intriguing enough to keep the viewers hooked anyway, the sheer star power is bound to make you binge the whole series in one go irrespective of whether you like political thrillers or not. Zero Day focuses on the aftermath of a cyberterrorism incident, which leads to the creation of a special commission with the power to negate people’s right to freedom. Abuse of such power to suppress opposing voices raises concerns about the rise of fascistic tendencies, a fear that manifests itself when the truth is finally revealed about the attack being orchestrated by the very elected officials entrusted to serve the people themselves. Needless to say, a gripping narrative such as this needs backing up with strong acting, and the...

On Halloween of 2022, it was announced that original Friday the 13th screenwriter Victor Miller – fresh off winning the U.S. copyright to the 1980 film after a lawsuit that stretched on for years – was teaming up with his lawyer Marc Toberoff, franchise rights holder Rob Barsamian, production company A24, the Peacock streaming service, and showrunner Bryan Fuller (whose credits include Hannibal and Pushing Daisies) to develop a new Friday the 13th streaming series called Crystal Lake. Things were moving ahead at a good pace, filming was expected to begin this July, but then the project hit a speed bump at the end of April with the firing of Fuller and his frequent collaborator Jim Danger Gray. Things got back on track in late August with the hiring of a new showrunner – and that person is Brad Caleb Kane, who also serves as co-showrunner and executive producer of It: Welcome to Derry,...

In 2022, a ‘Friday the 13th’ prequel series called ‘Crystal Lake’ was announced. It was originally being developed by Bryan Fuller and Victor Miller, with A24 producing and Peacock set to air it.

James Franco says he was heartbroken when he realized that his friendship with Seth Rogen had fizzled out, but Rogen was too busy not spending time with guys who start acting schools just to sleep with teenagers to pay attention.
Millennial-and-older comedy fans will recall how, back in the late 2000s, Hollywood began a torrid love affair with the stoner comedy bromance between Franco and Rogen, who had both grown up to be bona-fide A-listers in their own rights a decade after co-starring in the cult-beloved comedy-drama series Freaks and Geeks. Between Pineapple Express, The Interview and This Is the End, the duo of Franco and Rogen put their star powers together to create comedy classics aimed directly at the sizable community of guys who look like Rogen.

For a while there, it seemed like James Franco and Seth Rogen were going to be the standouts of the Judd Apatow School of Comedy. Tokin’ it up as a pair of freaks on Freaks and Geeks, the boys went on to also team on movies like Pineapple Express, This Is the End, The Interview, and more. But when Franco started facing accusations of sexual misconduct in 2018, that was pretty much it for both his career and his friendship with Rogen.

Rogen and Franco got their start in the business by starring on the NBC series Freaks and Geeks. They would go on to star in films like Knocked Up, Pineapple Express, This Is The End, The Interview, Sausage Party and The Disaster Artist.

James Franco and Seth Rogen's bromance was the stuff of modern Hollywood legend — producing comedy hits like Pineapple Express, The Interview, This Is The End, and more — until it wasn't. The duo's friendship spawned a series of hit movies after it was borne out of the cult classic television series Freaks and Geeks (in which they both starred for its gone-too-soon single season), but all the good years weren't enough to keep their friendship alive after a series of allegations regarding Franco's inappropriate sexual relationships with his students came to light.
And now, in a new interview with Esquire to promote Rogen's new AppleTV+ comedy series, The Studio, the multi-hyphenate is sharing his thoughts on the friendship breakup heard 'round the world. And it's not too surprising — at least to this particular writer — that Rogen is staying decidedly mum on the subject.

Judd Apatow took aim at President Donald Trump, Jeff Bezos, the “It Ends With Us” litigation spree and himself in his opening monologue Saturday at the 77th annual DGA Awards.

Jason Segel is best known for his role as the adorable boyfriend Marshall Eriksen in the sitcom How I Met Your Mother. While he has been a household name because of the show, he finally got his feature film breakthrough with the comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall (last name not related to Himym). He also wrote the script for the film.
One of the most iconic scenes in the comedy is his fully frontal n*de scene at the beginning of the film. Segel’s scene reportedly caught the attention of actor Harrison Ford when he was offered the role in Shrinking. Ford mentioned that he even sent Segel a note after watching his n*de scene in the film.

Arlan Ruf, a promising, up-and-coming young actor, will co-star opposite Jason Bateman and David Harbour in the HBO limited series “Dtf St. Louis,” Variety has learned.
The seven-episode show comes from creator and showrunner Steven Conrad. HBO describes “Dtf St. Louis” as a dark comedy about a love triangle between three adults experiencing middle-age malaise — an entanglement that leads to one of them ending up dead.
Bateman has been busy since ending his run on Netflix’s crime series “Ozark.” He co-starred in the streamer’s suspense hit, “Carry On” and is working on its new limited series “Black Rabbit.” Harbour is finishing up “Stranger Things.” He will co-star in Marvel’s “Thunderbolts*,” which opens in May.
Linda Cardellini (“Freaks & Geeks”) and Oscar-nominee Richard Jenkins (“The Shape of Water”) will also star. Ruf will play the role of Richard, the socially maladjusted, delinquent stepson of Harbour’s character.

Before his Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated turn as therapist Jimmy Laird on Apple TV+’s Shrinking, Jason Segel starred in 2009’s I Love You, Man, alongside Paul Rudd. The movie, which boasts a “Certified Fresh” 82% on Rotten Tomatoes, will be available to stream on Peacock starting Feb. 1.
The movie follows Peter Klaven, an L.A. real estate agent who proposes to his girlfriend Zooey, played by Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation), and suddenly realizes he doesn’t have any close friends to fill the role of his best man at his upcoming wedding. After a failed attempt at recruiting Zooey’s best friend’s husband (played by Jon Favreau), Peter meets investor Sydney Fife, played by Segel, at an open house where Peter’s showing Lou Ferrigno’s mansion.

Nerd movies, like geeks themselves, have come a long way over the last few decades. When films about nerds and geeks started becoming popular in the 1980s, they showed the characters as losers, misfits, and outsiders who had to face bullies, who were often the cool, popular kids. Since the 80s, the roles have stayed the same concerning their brains and status as misfits, but these characters have become more prestigious and important, as brains are more important than brawn in today's society.
When it comes to movies about nerds and geeks, they are no longer just about nerds being picked on by jocks and having to survive. They have become films about the smartest kids in the class doing things that no one ever imagined they could do. Geeks today are cool and often have more in common with regular people than the jocks that used to rule the class.

James Franco's career has since taken worse hits than the 2011 Oscars, but it is still a day that lives in infamy. His co-hosting gig with Anne Hathaway was so poorly received it has become legend unto itself, and comedian Paul Rust had a first row seat for the aftermath.

Maybe Joan Jett doesn’t give a damn about her reputation, but Jason Segel’s was good enough that he basically had his Freaks and Geeks character written for him…and it was unlinked from another.
Like pretty much everybody that was about to enter William McKinley High School in 1999 (or 1980 if we’re putting ourselves in Freaks and Geeks), Jason Segel was a complete nobody. But he was trying to make it in the business, and after landing the right contacts and some minor gigs, he got the chance to audition for what would become one of the best cult classic shows ever.
Speaking with GQ, Jason Segel remembered him vying for a key role on Freaks and Geeks, only to find the powers that be at a standstill. “The Freaks and Geeks script came across, and I read it and I loved it. And I showed up totally blind and cold.

Sure, there’s her real one: a 49-year-old mom who grew up in California and is now raising a 13-year-old daughter with the love of her life while balancing a career that only seems to grow richer as she ages. But that’s not what people are most excited about when they stop her on the street. Most often, they’re stoked to see Judy, Cardellini’s homicidal but loveable character from showrunner Liz Feldman’s black comedy Dead to Me,...

While Muppet fans are currently mad as Hell at Disney for scrapping the beloved Muppet Vision 3D theme park attraction, there was once a time when the Mouse House put a fair bit of attention and effort into celebrating the iconic felt characters they now own.
Most notably in 2011, the studio released The Muppets, a big-screen reboot that found Kermit, Fozzie, Gonzo and the gang (plus some human beings) teaming up to save Muppet Studios from an evil oil tycoon. It remains to be seen whether or not we’ll get a sequel in which the Muppets put on a big show to save their offices from the clutches of John Mayer and McG.

Although Freaks & Geeks only got one season, its female protagonist was blessed with two love interests, thanks to a couple of talented young actors.
Jason Segel recently recalled the audition process for the Paul Feig-created NBC teen dramedy, which ran from 1999 to 2000 with EP Judd Apatow, featuring himself as aimless drummer Nick Andopolis, the eventual boyfriend of Linda Cardellini‘s overachiever Lindsay Weir.
“I was brought in for a callback with James Franco, and we were, as far as we knew, competing for the same part, because at the time, there was only one of those characters,” he told GQ. “Daniel and Nick were just one character at the time. So we went in and we auditioned against each other. They liked us both, and they split the part, and he became the cool one, and I became the goofy one.”
Segel added, “I always felt like Nick was a lot like me.

While he may be known for playing therapist Jimmy Laird on Apple TV+’s Shrinking, for many of a certain generation, actor Jason Segel will be known as the stoner drummer from the cult classic TV series Freaks and Geeks. Entertainment Weekly reports Segel is now opening up about what he thinks may have happened to his character, and it’s not great.
In NBC's Freaks and Geeks, set in Chippewa, Michigan, in 1980-81, Segel played high schooler Nick Andopolis. His character was known for loving Zeppelin and smoking weed with his buddies Daniel Desario (James Franco) and Ken Miller (Seth Rogen). Freaks and Geeks also starred Linda Cardellini, John Francis Daley, Samm Levine, Martin Starr, and Busy Philipps. On the nostalgic TV dramedy Freaks and Geeks, Jason Segel’s character Nick Andopolis was never going to be a world-famous drummer like his hero John Bonham — but he would have died young like one, apparently.
Of all the “gone too soon” TV shows from the late-1990s to early-2000s that enjoyed second lives as cult classics with devoted online followings long after cancellation, Freaks and Geeks is probably the last one that needs endless speculation over what would have happened if the original creators got to see their TV world out to its natural conclusion. After all, we know what happened to Middle America in the 1980s: It voted for Ronald Reagan, staggered through the recession and watched the gap between wages and Gdp slowly widen into a gaping chasm.

Jason Segel thinks if “Freaks and Geeks” were fast-forwarded to present day, his character Nick Andopolis would have long ago died while serving in the military.
“The sad answer to where I think Nick is now, in my mind, he gets sent off to war and doesn’t make it,” Segel revealed during a sit-down Q&a with GQ Magazine that had the actor reflecting on his roles over the years. Segel said he came to that conclusion and “was always thinking of playing him” with that conclusion due to the realities men of his age and socio-economic background faced during the 1980s.
Watch the full interview below:
“That was always, like, the threat looming for Nick, and that’s what happens to a lot of men of that generation and socio-economic statuses. That’s how I always was thinking of playing him,” Segel said, adding that the imaginary fate would be pretty on-brand for Nick.

Every great TV show delicately walks along the fine border of captivating its audience and losing them in the process, and some storylines go too far one way or the other. Sometimes writers double down on a plot that they hope can be compelling but ends up being bothersome. Even the best TV shows of all time can sometimes overrely on specific stories, to the detrement of their overarching appeal.
From stereotypical personalities in Young Sheldon to repetitive tropes in The Bear season 4, it's not uncommon to see attempts at long-form storytelling take a wrong turn. However, too much of anything can be toxic, which can describe a number of TV shows over the years that lost momentum due to weak overarching plots that overstayed their welcome. Here are ten TV shows that took a storyline and ran it straight into the ground.

Rumor has it that Steven Spielberg initially came up with the story for The Goonies when he was beginning to direct 1985’s The Color Purple. The question that started this rather surprising thought process was, ironically, a simple one: What kind of wild adventures do kids get into on rainy days? Well, according to him, venturing underground in search of One Eyed Willy’s treasure, carefully treading through many different traps set by the legendary pirate and also avoiding a very intimidating crime family (who are shaped like a bunch of oversized brutes).

1993's "Hocus Pocus" remains a Halloween classic that reliably graces the screens of audiences worldwide every spooky season. In fact, for '90s kids who grew up on the movie, there's a strong case to be made for "Hocus Pocus" being the greatest Halloween movie ever, even for adults.

Linda Cardellini has been cast in a lead role opposite Jason Bateman and David Harbour in the upcoming HBO dark comedy limited series “Dtf St. Louis,” Variety has learned.
HBO gave the series a seven-episode order in November. It was originally announced as being in development back in 2022 with Harbour and Pedro Pascal attached to star and executive produce. It was originally inspired by the James Lasdun New Yorker article “My Dentist’s Murder Trial: Adultery, False Identities, and a Lethal Sedation.” However, the creative direction of the series evolved over time and it is now based on a wholly original idea with no connection to the original article and with Pascal no longer involved.
The official logline now states the show is “about a love triangle between three adults experiencing middle-age malaise, that leads to one of them ending up dead.” Cardellini will play Carol.

There's definitely a sweet spot when it comes to how long a TV series should run. Some go on seemingly forever until they're shallow visages of what they used to be. Then, there are the shows that displayed a ton of promise in just a few episodes but got canceled for one reason or another. When it comes to the latter, you know exactly what we're talking about. Perhaps you were even part of a fan campaign to try to bring one of the following shows back on the air. Sadly, the whims of studio executives know no mercy, even when a show ends on a massive cliffhanger that'll no longer get any resolution.
These are the shows that broke all of our hearts. These series canceled after one season managed to get us invested so quickly, and now, we're left to wonder what might've been had more people tuned in initially.

Freaks and Geeks nails the awkwardness of teen life so well that it delivers the best “first time getting high” episode ever on TV. What’s even more impressive is that it pulls this off while also being a surprisingly low-key anti-drug episode.

Freaks and Geeks aired for one season on NBC in 1999. It was a nostalgic look at the life of high schoolers in 1980. There is nothing nostalgic about the stark take on modern-day teenagers in Max's Euphoria. The 40-year difference in timeline settings is unsettling at best and frightening at its worst.
Freaks and Geeks had 18 episodes and there are 19 (so far) of Euphoria. It doesn't seem like there were nearly enough episodes of the former, and it feels like a mental overload of the latter.
The tone of these two shows is completely different. Freaks and Geeks is supposed to be nostalgic, but it does offer realism of the time. Euphoria often seems to shock audiences intentionally, but still with a significant degree of modern realism. What is real in the contemporary world would not have seemed remotely possible to the earlier generation of teens. What was real in the...

Paul Feig’s Freaks and Geeks might have been short-lived, but to date, fans cannot get over it. The teen dramedy, set in a suburban Detroit high school, followed siblings Lindsay and Sam Weir played by Linda Cardellini and John Francis Daley as they navigated their way through two very different cliques, the “freaks” and the “geeks.”

It's hard to believe it's been 25 years since Freaks and Geeks aired on NBC. The show featured a fantastic cast, touching, realistic writing, terrific music, and an almost unforgivable short run.
Many of the young cast members went on to have excellent careers despite NBC's pitiful treatment of the show. Stars like James Franco, Linda Cardellini, Seth Rogen, Jason Segel, Busy Phillips, John Francis Daly, and Martin Star have all enjoyed robust careers in Hollywood. Shia Labeouf, Rashida Jones, Lizzy Caplan, JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Ben Foster, Amy Aquino, Samaire Armstrong, Stephanie Erb, Leslie Mann, Kevin Corrigan, David Krumholtz, Jason Schwartzman, Matt Czuchy, and Mike White are just some of the talent that appeared in the shows all too brief run.

The Sausage Party cast is star-studded, and thanks to the wide range of celebrity cameos playing foul-mouthed food items Seth Rogen's animated comedy remains as popular as ever. The raunchy comedy Sausage Party was not what anyone expected, an adult-animated movie about anthropomorphic food in a grocery store that believes that when they are bought, they will go to a better place where everything will be perfect. However, when one food item is returned and knows the truth, it turns the entire store upside down.
The cast of Sausage Party cast includes some of the biggest names in comedy movies. Many of them got their start together in Judd Apatow's movies and TV shows. What's more, the raunchy animated movie features many frequent collaborators also worked together on several movies and TV shows both before and after the Sausage Party release in 2016. Lionsgate has picked up the adult comedy Rager to be directed by Jon Kasdan, who also wrote the screenplay with Dan Klein.
The script is under wraps, but the Imagine Entertainment project is produced by Brian Grazer, Jeb Brody and Allan Mandelbaum, with Justin Wilkes to executive produce.
Kasdan co-wrote Solo: A Star Wars Story alongside his father, Lawrence Kasdan, and is the writer and showrunner for Willow on Disney+. He also wrote and directed The First Time and In the Land of Women. Before that, Kasdan worked as a writer for the Freaks and Geeks TV series and acted in Dawson’s Creek and Dreamcatcher.
Klein’s credits include Miracle Workers on TBS and Wet Hot American Summer. For its part, Lionsgate has had success with Knives Out, the last two John Wick movies, relaunching the Hunger Games franchise with The Battle of Songbirds & Snakes and the latest installment in the Saw franchise.

The new movie by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Chris Evans, Red One, comes out this weekend, and there's plenty of reason to believe it will be a hit. At the helm of Red One is Jake Kasdan, a director who has made two hits with Johnson that have cumulatively made a billion and a half dollars, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Jumanji: The Next Level. But Kasdan's track record extends beyond his cooking with The Rock, not only directing the cult classic Orange County, but also episodes of Freaks and Geeks and the pilot of New Girl. But Kasdan's best work is the comedic parody masterpiece Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, and if you don't agree, then... "the wrong kid died."...

The holidays wouldn’t be the same without a feel-good comedy to help warm your chestnuts by the fire. Thankfully, Hulu is here with a heartfelt comedy about family, frustrations in parenting, and feeling like the best gift includes stepping up to the plate for loved ones in need. Directed by David Gordon Green, Nutcrackers stars Ben Stiller and Linda Cardellini. Today, Hulu shared a Nutcrackers trailer to make your heart grow two sizes bigger.
Nutcrackers follows strait-laced and work-obsessed Mike (Stiller) as he is suddenly thrust into being a caregiver for his rambunctious, orphaned nephews. As the group gets closer, Mike discovers a part of himself he’s never known, brought on by the daily chaos and shared sensation of grief.
