great spiritual journey, that was even enjoyed by an anti organised religious person like me:)

I can imagine this film being hijacked by certain types of Christians who will miss its depths, and being rejected by people simply because of the Christian nature of it's vehicle.

Both I think would be a mistake, it's a great journey, and freshly and effortlessly portrays the blossoming of a young spirit's relationship with life and the divine. Great performances, and full of classic Welsh story telling.

    a simple pleasure

This film is a little gem in British film-making. It is beautifully shot in south Wales, with a gorgeous score, and top performances, particularly Ian Bannen as the gifted healer who befriends John-Paul Macleod. What I liked about it though, was that some of the characters are allowed to pursue their spiritual sides - in the old-fashioned Christian sense of the word spiritual, without any sense of mocking from the film-makers. That's rare. Christian attitudes tend to be looked down on in todays movies.

But even if you really don't care for that aspect of the story, it's well worth watching for all the reasons I mentioned above. All the actors are brilliant, and the film kind of reels you in to make you watch it - I was just flicking through the channels, and there it was, and I really couldn't stop watching it! So I missed the first five minutes...!

Watch it if you are interested in quality films that make you think, and care about the characters, and leave you feeling nice and warm, rather than cold.

    • Trivia
While Taliesin maintains (at around 64 mins) that pomegranates always have 611 seeds each, Jewish tradition teaches that the pomegranate is a symbol for righteousness because it is said to have 613 seeds which corresponds with the 613 mitzvot or commandments of the Torah. A web site (aquaphoenix.com) records that counting the seeds in 206 pomegranates from 6 countries resulted in a minimum of 165 seeds and a maximum of 1370 seeds, but achieves an average of 613.
    • Goofs
Taliesin's mother winds the grandfather clock (at around 54 mins) putting the key into the left sprocket. At 83:45, Taliesin's father winds the grandfather clock, putting the key into the right sprocket. Typically, one sprocket winds the time mechanism and the other winds the chiming mechanism.
