Blending elements of magical realism, political strife and Kafkaesque ennui to partially satisfying effect, Oblivion Verses (Los Versos del Olvido) marks an intriguing if rather elusive feature debut for Iranian writer-director Alireza Khatami.

Guillermo Del Toro’s two Hellboy movies weren’t exactly Phantom Menace-style showcases for the latest advancements in CG technology, but Hellboy reboot director Neil Marshall is still making it a point to reassure fans that his movie will have plenty of old-school practical effects. Marshall offered that tidbit on a recent episode of the Post Mortem podcast (via Bloody Disgusting), adding, “I love to do stuff in camera whenever I possibly can and use CG as the amazing tool that it is, to enhance or expand upon the world,” but he doesn’t like using CG to “replace reality.” Hopefully that means that new Hellboy star David Harbour will be covered in layers of bright red prosthetics like old Hellboy Ron Perlman, since that’s a much cooler look than simply using the actor as a stand-in for some cartoon monster. Who knows, maybe that was one of ...

Director of the forthcoming Hellboy reboot, Neil Marshall in a recent podcast conversation with Post Mortem has revealed the extent of the direction HellBoy: Rise of the Blood Queen will take.
Marshall seems to have let out a sigh of relief as he revealed “the cuffs are off” showing signs that he has been given somewhat of a free reign on the production and after the success of the R-Rated Deadpool, this is something we can look forward to in the reboot.
“We’ve been granted permission to do it R-rated, which for me is just like taking the cuffs off. It’s like, okay, so now we can just make the movie we want to make. Nobody’s going to stop us. So, that’s the main (difference). And I’m sure, obviously, the success of things like Deadpool and Logan have not hurt that cause.

Hellboy reboot director Neil Marshall (The Descent) has been talking about the upcoming movie's R-rating allowing him to "take off the cuffs" while adapting the popular comic book series. The original comic was written and illustrated by Mike Mignola and later turned into two successful big screen adaptations by Guillermo del Toro, starring Ron Perlman. As far as TV cancellations go, there’s not many that are more disappointing than Hannibal. A small screen adaptation of Thomas Harris’ novels, it brought one of the most iconic characters in cinema to television in a show that was absolutely excellent in every way imaginable. Polished, superbly acted, intelligent and twisted in all the right ways, it was a delight to watch and as such, when it was given the axe after just three seasons, fans were devastated.
Since then, there’ve always been rumblings about Hannibal potentially returning for more, with creator Bryan Fuller remaining hopeful that he’ll get to continue telling his story one day. The following story contains a crazy number of spoilers from this week’s Bates Motel series finale. You;d be nuts to proceed if you haven’t watched the episode.
For Freddie Highmore, Bates Motel‘s most horrifying death occurred after production wrapped on A&E’s Psycho drama. “Twelve hours after we were done [shooting] at the house, we were seeing the various bits of the house arrive back at the stage,” the actor recalls to TVLine. “They’d been slashed up. I can't even imagine what kind of movie Alien would have been had Ridley Scott not directed it. But there was almost someone else who brought the story to life on the big screen. During a recent interview on the podcast Post Mortem run by horror legend Mick Garris (The Stand), Alien producer Walter Hill revealed that before Scott jumped on board, they were looking at hiring director Robert Aldrich to direct the film.
Aldrich directing Alien definitely would have been interesting. For those of you who don't know, he was the legendary director who worked in Hollywood from the 50 through the 70s and he helmed classics such as The Dirty Dozen, Kiss Me Deadly, and What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?. Hill explained what happened saying:
“We had sent the script to I don’t know how many directors and they had all turned in down — except Robert Aldrich.

The Performer | David Giuntoli
The Show | Grimm
The Episode | “The End” (March 31, 2017)
The Performance | Grimm‘s Nick Burkhardt has never been big with the emotions. Who has time, after all, when your Pacific Northwest hometown is continually under supernatural attack? So Giuntoli has had precious few opportunities over the series’ six seasons to let loose — in any way — and show us how Nick reacts when he has more than a few seconds to process huge emotional news.
With Friday’s series finale, though, the series made up for that. And its leading man proved he was more than equal to the task.

I can’t believe I’m about to type these words: I don’t think I want Gilmore Girls to return.
This weekend’s news that Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos has begun “very preliminary” talks with (presumably) Warner Bros. for a second revival that would (presumably) pick up where last fall’s A Year in the Life miniseries left off initially filled me with excitement. As you know, I lapped up Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino’s four-part continuation like a blue whale coming off a 30-day fast. And, yes, it left me wanting more.

When I first screened Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life last November — and marveled at Lauren Graham‘s career-best performance — I was certain her long, inexplicable Emmy nomination drought was about to come to an end.
