The Boys' breakout star Jack Quaid has been announced to star alongside actress Amber Midthunder in the upcoming action thriller Novocaine from Paramount.

According to Deadline, production is set to begin this April in South Africa and will be directed by Robert Olsen and Dan Berk. The director duo previously helmed Villains, which starred John Wick 4 actor Bill Skarsgård. Novocaine is being distributed by Paramount, and it is the first release from the FilmNation Entertainment production Infrared. Producers on the film include Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell for Safehouse Pictures, and Drew Simon for Infrared Pictures.

The Boys star Jack Quaid will join forces with Prey’s Amber Midthunder for the action movie Novocaine, which centers on a bank executive who cannot feel pain. According to a report by Deadline, Novocaine has now been purchased by Paramount, with the studio aiming to begin production in April. Known for his role in Prime Video’s satirical superhero series The Boys, the hook of Novocaine is the stuff action movie dreams are made of, with the main character being a mild-mannered bank executive who cannot feel pain who must suddenly leap into action when the bank he works in is robbed.

Exclusive: Paramount has acquired Novocaine, an action film with franchise potential that will star Jack Quaid (The Boys) and Amber Midthunder, who was a revelation in the Predator spinoff Prey. Production begins in April in South Africa.

Robert Olsen and Dan Berk (Villains) are directing a Lars Jacobson script. It is the first go picture for the FilmNation Entertainment production shingle Infrared.

Producers are Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell (Safehouse Pictures) and Drew Simon (Infrared Pictures). Infrared’s Sam Speiser, Safehouse’s Matt Schwartz, Jacobson, Paul Barbeau, Josh Adler and Julian Rosenberg (Circle of Confusion) will be executive producers.

Quaid will play a sheltered bank executive named Nathan Caine, who has a rare genetic condition that prevents him from feeling physical pain when he is enduring it. When his bank is robbed and one of his co-workers kidnapped, he has to act and finds his greatest liability becomes his greatest strength.

The Boys' Erin Moriarty has commented on her character in the series' upcoming Season 4.

Speaking to Comicbook.com at the 2023 BoxLunch Holiday Gala, Erin Moriarty, who plays Starlight, touched on the upcoming fourth season of The Boys. Although she couldn't say too much, her excited response certainly gave a bit away. Upon being asked how Starlight is adjusting to officially joining the scrappy Boys team after leaving the Seven, Moriarty was brimming with anticipation: "Oh my God, okay I'm sorry it's just, maybe this is just a good advertisement for Season 4, that I can't answer that without maintaining composure," she said. "I can't! No that's my earnest response! I'm actually scared to answer ... She is adjusting great."

When viewers last saw Starlight, she was helping the Boys in their plot to finally kill the terrifying Homelander.

It has been 15 years since Glen Basner started the venture. Despite the hardships facing everyone at AFM with strikes and uncertainty, what a different a decade and a half makes. “Back then, Summit and Mandate were the two top companies in the space,” Basner recalled when assessing the opportunity to launch a company back then. “Mandate was sold to Lionsgate and became a U.S. distributor, and Summit started their own U.S. distribution company. There was a hole in the marketplace we thought we could fill, and become that leading American international sales agent for feature films that had no connection to the U.S. distribution world.

Despite the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, sales agents and distributors are convening in Santa Monica this week in the hopes of reconnecting with buyers and kicking off deal discussions at the American Film Market.

After an underwhelming Toronto Film Festival, which saw little deal activity, there’s hope that a few of the starry packages being shopped at AFM will get picked up. But given the climate in Hollywood, many projects won’t officially hit the market until February at the European Film Market in Berlin. The marketplace is not only strained by the strike but the shifting appetites and belt-tightening at the major studios and streamers. At the same time, the return of buyers from China to AFM after several years away is seen as a positive sign.

In the realm of bad movies every movie geek has their favorites. I read with interest Tom Stockman’s musings on The Room, a bad movie masterpiece I have yet to see, it’s in my Netflix queue though!

Bad movies have their place in any movie geeks library. Movie watching parties can be so much fun if the movies picked are from the resumes of directors like Ed Wood, Phil Tucker, or Herschell Gordon Lewis. Laughing along with movies like this can be such a joy. The crew at Mystery Science Theatre made careers out of laughing at bad movies. Low budget crap made by amateur or semiprofessional film makers is so easy to love.

But what are we to make of a movie made by main stream, A-list Hollywood professionals, made by people with really good movies in their career, which is damn near unwatchable?...

Hollywood hunk Scott Caan upset co-star Steve Martin when he got carried away performing a stunt on the set of new movie Novocaine. The 25-year-old son of film legend James Caan appears alongside Martin in the crime comedy. But Martin didn't see the funny side when Caan deviated from the script during a fight scene and smashed a bottle over a stuntman's head - instead of breaking it over the bar. Even though the bottle was a prop and the stuntman walked away unhurt, Martin was furious that the young star had tried to ad-lib a stunt and refused to speak to him for days.

British actress Helena Bonham Carter is to star with Steve Martin in a new comedy about a dentist. In the film Novocaine, funnyman Martin will play a successful dentist whose life is thrown into turmoil by the arrival of his wayward brother.
