Born in Belœil, Belgium on Aug. 29, 1981, Dequenne was just 18 when she broke out in “Rosetta,” a coming-of-age story about a teenager who lives in a trailer park with her alcoholic mother. If you're a huge fan of wasting your time and money, there's historically not a surer way to maximize the squandering of both than strolling down to your local multiplex and paying full admission to watch a movie based on a video game. With astonishingly few exceptions, video games have proved stubbornly resistant to film adaptation. There are numerous reasons for this, but the one hurdle that most filmmakers seem incapable of clearing is that watching a game isn't nearly as fun as playing one. Sounds crazy, but I really think there's something to it!
With this in mind, studios have trouble entrusting their would-be video game movie franchises to top flight directors. "Werewolves Within" is an outlier on account of being an indie film adaptation of a game that wasn't widely known outside of hardcore gaming circles, which allowed director Josh Ruben and screenwriter Mishna Wolff to basically do their own thing.

There’s no denying that The Fast and the Furious was inspired by a plethora of vehicular heist films that preceded it, but it also ended up being a source of inspiration for many action films that came after it. If we look at the North American market, after the success of the Ff franchise, films like Torque, Need for Speed, and Baby Driver were greenlit. Russia jumped on the trend with Street Racers. So did Malaysia with Evolusi Kl Drift and its sequel Evolusi Kl Drift 2; yes, they weren’t hiding their love for Tokyo Drift. India launched the massively popular Dhoom franchise. The Norwegian film industry also spawned a franchise inspired by the Ff films, i.e., the Borning trilogy. While the French were ahead of the curve with the two Taxi movies, they eventually expanded it into a five-film franchise after the demand for vehicular mayhem increased in the 2000s.

The following contains spoilers for Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, now in theaters.
Tim Burton's Beetlejuice Beetlejuice brought back much of the madcap energy of the original with the same irreverent charm. The movie re-introduced a handful of characters from the 1988 release, along with new additions, making the movie even more of a wild ride. One of the actors who received top billing was Italian actress Monica Bellucci, who plays the soul-sucking wife of Beetlejuice in the afterlife, Dolores. The opening credits list Bellucci's name before Jenna Ortega and Willem Defoe -- hinting that her role will play a significant part in the story about to unfold. Conventional horror movies centered around werewolves often go heavy on special effects, showcasing the transformation from man to wolf and its subsequent uncontrollable slaughter. But the transformative aspect and dual nature of werewolves provide fertile ground for metaphor beyond their primal, animalistic urge to eviscerate everything in their path.
Out this week is The Beast Within, a werewolf movie with a fairy tale twist, framing its horror story from the perspective of a young girl discovering the truth about her afflicted father.
It’s the unconventional approach to werewolf lore that inspires this week’s streaming picks: five unconventional werewolf horror movies that defy easy categorization and use lycanthropy to explore historical horrors, the growing pains of youth, or simply loneliness.

Movies about the French Revolution are diverse, including costume dramas, horror films, comedies, and more, all set during this turbulent time period. Some movies aim for historical accuracy and shed light on the horrors faced by ordinary people during the French Revolution. Notable films on the French Revolution include "The Affair of the Necklace," "Napolon," "Brotherhood of the Wolf," and "Marie Antoinette," each offering a unique perspective on this significant historical event.
Few events in Western civilization have been as important as the French Revolution, and French Revolution movies prove its inspiration throughout the years. This expression of popular unrest that toppled the monarchy and ultimately led to a bloody era of repression known as The Terror (and the rise of Napoleon) has proven to be fertile ground for movies. The films have been around since the silent era and remain in demand in 2023, with Ridley Scott's Napoleon another addition to the historical subgenre.

Jade begins with an animated sequence telling us that Jade and her brother Brandon came to live in Albuquerque, New Mexico after their parents were murdered in London. Why or by whom they were killed isn’t explained. Nor is exactly how they ended up in a street gang, or how that led to Jade accidentally killing her brother, made clear. But whatever the reason, she’s sworn never to use a gun again.
Once the film turn to live action, we see Jade dropping in to see Layla who is not happy to see her. That might be because the baby she’s carrying will never know its father, thanks to Jade’s errant bullet.
As if that isn’t enough for her to deal with, she soon...

Let’s dream the crow black dream. I’m Niki Minter and this week on the Eric Draven files, we have The Crow: Stairway to Heaven. This is the first time we have a series that I feel lukewarm about. However, this is one that does have its fans and there’s a reason, aside from the upcoming reimagining, that we’re discussing it. This should be a fun time.
Okay, so, I caught Stairway on the Sci-Fi channel a few times here and there during its initial run. It caught my interest but never enough to start it from the beginning. What’s interesting about this is that it’s based on the 1994 movie adaptation which was pulled from James O’Barr’s original comic. Mark Dacascos would be the one and only person ever to fill the role once held by Brandon Lee. This is an interesting take, right?...

There was talk that Brotherhood of the Wolf and Silent Hill director Christophe Gans’ new Silent Hill movie Return to Silent Hill, which is said to be “totally independent from the two previous movies,” would be having its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this month, but that’s not exactly what happened. What actually happened was that there was a private screening of the film for potential distributors. We don’t know how that went, but we are benefiting from the film’s search for distributors. The first image made its way online a couple weeks ago (that can be seen above), and now a teaser trailer has made its way online. You can check that out right here:

"Leave now! And tell your kind about me... Tell your kind a new God will soon rule!" Oh damn!! Holy hell this is awesome. A badass fan-film has debuted online called Logan the Wolf, made by a French stuntman / filmmaker / fight choreographer named Godefroy Ryckewaert. He's most recently worked as a fighter choreographer on The Witcher series, and also the upcoming The Crow remake. Set in a desolate, post-apocalyptic world, the 12-minute short film follows Logan as he navigates a hostile environment, facing both old and new enemies. The narrative focuses on Logan's struggle with the burden of his past. This looks like it's inspired by the underrated French action film Brotherhood of the Wolf. It reinvents Wolverine as if he were a fighter in a time with Vikings and fur-clad warriors. It's extremely violent & uber brutal, and is pretty much one giant 10 minute action sequence with kick ass stunt work from Ryckewaert's team.

The 2000s were a great time for French blockbusters; from the beloved Amélie to the comedy classics like Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra and Taxi 3, there was a lot to be happy about going to the cinema. In 2001, one of the movies worth watching in a dark room, with popcorn in the lap, and a massive screen in front was Brotherhood of the Wolf.

John Wick 3 pays homage to Mark Dacasco's iconic role as Iron Chef's "the Chairman" by giving his character a similar position of leadership and skill. Dacasco's character in John Wick 3, named Zero, is not only a deadly assassin but also a talented street-food sushi chef, a nod to Dacasco's history on cooking-related shows. Besides Iron Chef and John Wick, Dacasco has notable accomplishments as a martial artist, starring in films like Crying Freeman and Brotherhood of the Wolf, and as Wo Fat in Hawaii Five-0.

In a bold move, French film studio Pathé bet nearly $80 million on an all-star, double-barreled adaptation of “The Three Musketeers,” gambling that interest would be high enough that director Martin Bourboulon could split Alexandre Dumas’ swashbuckling epic over two films, spaced half a year apart, and audiences would show up for both halves. The gamble paid off, as the first part — “The Three Musketeers – Part One: D’Artagnan,” released last April — was a huge hit, and appetites remain strong for the sequel, which opens in France on Dec. 13.
In the States, however, where “Kill Bill,” “The Avengers” and “Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning” have paved the way for two-part blockbusters, that strategy seems less certain. A series of disappointing screen versions has tarnished the legend. It would be easy to eventize a double bill, marketed to fanboys and action-movie enthusiasts, in which all four...

The episode of Revisited covering Hellboy II: The Golden Army was Written by Emilie Black, Edited by Ric Solomon, Narrated by Niki Minter, Produced by Tyler Nichols and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
Following the beloved Hellboy adaptation that was released in 2004 by Guillermo Del Toro, fans wanted more. As reviewed on a previous video, that one is excellent, so it was not surprising when the sequel was announced. Thus, in 2008, Hellboy II: The Golden Army (watch it Here) was released, and it ruled!
Let’s start with the rating here and it’s a complicated one for me. It’s actually hard to rate it because my reviewer brain, the part of me that is highly cinematically educated wants to give it an eight out of ten, which isn’t bad, but my heart wants to say it can’t be rated on a normal scale.

The episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? covering The Descent was Written by Emilie Black, Narrated by Adam Walton, Edited by Jaime Vasquez, Produced by Andrew Hatfield and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
The decade comprised of the years 2000 to 2009 seems to be maligned by many horror fans as a bad period, a period where nothing good was released. Much like the decades before it when folks maligned the 1990s, 1980s, and now more recent movies, there was some bad stuff put out of course, but there were also a whole of good movies too. Some of them, like The Strangers in 2008, The House of the Devil in 2009, and Brotherhood of the Wolf in 2001 were excellent even. People often seem to paint the past in a better light and vilify the more recent eras when it comes to horror films. In 2005, plenty of horror films were released.

Have you ever seen a film in theaters that made you go “Holy Bird Poop Batman” I wish I could see that again for the first time? Has there been a film that has made you want to find the biggest possible screen to see it on within a manageable distance? Or a film that has since become one of your “new Blu-ray player test movies”? I have. In fact, there have been a few of these in my lifetime so far, but the one for today is Brotherhood of the Wolf (watch it Here).

The now confirmed Beetlejuice sequel, which at present is known simply as Beetlejuice 2, continues to round out its supporting cast, adding Malèna and The Matrix Reloaded star Monica Bellucci as the wife of the titular ghoul. As per a report by The Hollywood Reporter, the Mafia Mamma star will join the likes of Michael Keaton and Jenna Ortega in the long, long-awaited follow-up, which is now in production over at Warner Bros. Pictures.
Monica Bellucci is well-known both in the United States and internationally for roles in such critically acclaimed Italian and French movies like Malèna, Brotherhood of the Wolf, and Irréversible as well as roles in such major blockbusters as The Matrix Reloaded and its sequel The Matrix Revolutions, the James Bond outing Spectre, and the action flick Shoot 'Em Up. The Ghost with the Most, Beetlejuice, is finally getting a sequel to his 1988 classic, and Italian actress Monica Bellucci is in talks to join the cast. Cameras will roll later this month on Beetlejuice 2, with Michael Keaton, Catharine O’Hara, Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega, and Justin Theroux also starring.
Beetlejuice 2 haunts theaters on September 6, 2024, with Ortega playing Lydia Deetz’s daughter. Tim Burton directs from a script by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, co-creators and co-showrunners of Netflix’s Wednesday series. Filming is going down this summer in London. Burton’s longtime collaborator, Danny Elfman, provides the score. Brad Pitt’s Plan B banner is producing the sequel.
Notoriously, Beetlejuice 2 was in limbo for years. Burton would only make the film if Keaton agreed to return, and Ryder would only play Lydia if Burton and Keaton were on board. With all three returning, work on the long-awaited sequel is underway.

Jenna Ortega is leading the cast with Michael Keaton reprising his role as the obnoxious ghost. Winona Ryder is also back, playing Ortega’s mother. Catherine O’Hara is also among the returnees, while Justin Theroux is a newcomer to the proceedings.
While plot details are being kept in the coffin, it is known that Bellucci will play Beetlejuice’s wife.
Warners announced Tuesday that the feature will be released Sept. 6, 2024, taking over the date from Marvel’s Blade, which last week shut down preproduction due to the writers strike.

Mark Dacascos has been around on our screens since 1989, playing mostly in films that required fighting skills which he has in spades. With over 80 parts in film, television, and even video games, the man has made his mark. His martial arts background is impressive, being the son of Al Dacascos, one of the founder of Wun Hop Kuen Do (Whkd) Kung Fu, he has been trained from a young age and it shows. Mark Dacascos is one of the most skilled fighters in the industry, something that shows through many of his roles. Here are our picks for the best Mark Dacascos movies.
Only the Strong (1993)
Early on in his career, but not exactly at the start, this film is one that helped put Dacascos on the map. Yes, he had done other work, but for most action film fans, this capoeira film really shows his talent as an actor and a martial artist.

We’ve been hearing for a few years now that Brotherhood of the Wolf and Silent Hill director Christophe Gans has been working with producer Victor Hadida to develop a new Silent Hill movie that would be “totally independent from the two previous movies”. Gans directed the 2006 version of Silent Hill from a screenplay he wrote with Roger Avary and Nicolas Boukhrief, and will be directing this new film – which is titled Return to Silent Hill – from a screenplay he has written with Sandra Vo-Anh and Will Schneider… and now Deadline has reported that the project has secured funding! Filming is expected to begin soon.
The Return to Silent Hill news was included in a report that Ashland Hill Media Finance has agreed to co-finance a slate of four films at various stages of production. Return to Silent Hill is one of those films. The others are an action movie...

As hard as he tries to leave this life behind him, John Wick just can't catch a break. You go on one rampage to avenge your dead puppy and the next thing you know, your face lights up on every assassin's wishlist. Given that he's made it all the way to" John Wick: Chapter 4," it's going to take a lot for someone to take Wick down. Michael Nyqvist, Riccardo Scamarcio, Common, Ruby Rose, and Asia Kate Dillon have all made some fun adversaries to Baba Yaga. But then we have Mark Dacascos as Zero, who really switches things up.
Most of Wick's enemies go after him because a sacred rule has been broken or it's just business, but Dacascos' Zero takes a different approach. In "John Wick: Chapter 3," after the hit order is put out for Wick, the Adjudicator (Dillon) recruits the hitman and his crew to put an end to him.

Frank Miller is set to create, write and executive produce a limited series adaptation of Hugo Pratt’s Corto Maltese graphic novels for StudioCanal.
Italian illustrator Hugo Pratt created the Corto Maltese fantasy comic character in 1967 as a heroic sailor finding adventure around the world. Miller, the writer-artist behind The Dark Knight, Sin City and 300, will develop the six-episode live action-adventure series in partnership with StudioCanal and Canal+.
“I first discovered Corto Maltese reading the books at Forbidden Planet in New York as a young man. Then on my travels, I studied and discovered an edition at a newsstand in Rome. The artwork was so expressive and so bold that it leapt off the newsprint. It swept me away,” Miller said in a statement.
Earlier this year, Miller launched his own publishing banner, Frank Miller Presents. The Corto Maltese adaptation will be executive produced by Miller,...

Just in time for Halloween, Neil Marshall returns to the war-torn horror genre with The Lair, a gory creature feature due in theaters on October 28, 2022. The film comes 20 years after Marshall mortified viewers with his feature film debut Dog Soldiers, a rabid and relentless new take on the age-old werewolf formula. Hopefully, Marshall can restore his reputational luster after directing the abysmal Hellboy reboot in 2019.
While many war-set horror movies explore the horrifying psychological ramifications of combat, i.e. Jacob's Ladder and Under The Shadow, The Lair joins a crop of breathless action-packed horror movies featuring brutal monsters and mutated creations that run amok on the battlefield and beyond.
Predator (1987) Available On Hulu

There are few words in the world of horror that can make fans react the way that "Silent Hill" can. While "Resident Evil" has always been the bigger horror video game franchise, there are many out there who would happily tell you that "Silent Hill" is easily the better of the two. We need look no further than the excitement that gripped the internet recently when Konami announced a slew of new video games to go along with a brand new movie titled "Return to Silent Hill."
What is particularly interesting about the new film is that Christophe Gans, who directed the original 2006 video game adaptation, is returning to the director's chair. In fact, this entire revival of the franchise is being...
