ABC's lineup of Saturday morning cartoons in the '90s was filled with timeless shows like The Weekenders and House of Mouse. Among the best shows they had to offer was Recess, created by Paul Germain and Jon Ansolabehere. The series follows fourth-graders Tj, Spinelli, Vince, Gretchen, Mikey, and Gus as they and the many colorful characters who surround them get into strange adventures, primarily during their recess period.
Recess is a classic animated Disney series that any '90s kid will remember fondly. Similarly to Codename: Kids Next Door, much of the series' appeal stems from its expansive cast and the way that, no matter how silly the stories seem on the surface, the characters take them completely seriously. Recess ran for six seasons across multiple networks, and while the changes between them are minimal, they're still noticeable.

The early '00s were a fascinating time for animated shows. You still had plenty of genre-heavy cartoons that followed in the tradition of Saturday morning shows and the kind of experimental and irreverent tones of early Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon projects. But there was also a wave of cartoon comedy-dramas about tweens and teens that took a rather grounded approach to telling stories, while still offering some cartoony weirdness that makes them stand out -- shows like "As Told By Ginger," "The Weekenders," "Hey Arnold," and also "The Proud Family."
"The Proud Family," in particular, was a big deal for its time. It was one of the first animated shows with a Black creator and a Black cast, and it tackled complex themes like race and religion. Like "The Simpsons," it created a world filled with memorable side characters and one-off characters that made the world feel lived-in.

Oh my! I can see myself having to limit the range of movies I review even further. Currently, for those keeping tabs, I focus on action, comedy, sci-fi, documentary and…romcom!
After Weekenders, which bills itself as “a comedy drama about four people brought together by an Air BnB mix-up and prompted to re-evaluate their lives,” I might just have to rethink the latter. Because I just can’t cope with the will they/won’t they tension.
Like, we all know they will, because it is a romcom and that is what is meant to happen. That is what always happens. But the journey along the way is so, so fraught. My nerves really can’t take it.
The set-up is simple enough. Harper (Peyton Michelle Edwards) rents a remote cottage (?) in the wilds of Vermont in order to get away from civilisation for a bit. But, ooops! Mix-up alert!

The late 1990s and early 2000s were a great time for TV on two of the most popular family-friendly channels: The Disney Channel and Nickelodeon. It was a time where viewers had a hard time choosing which network they liked better. Over on Reddit, fans would say that Disney had some of the best live-action shows but Nickelodeon had some of the best cartoons.

The Weekenders was a three-season animated series that originally aired on ABC's block "Disney's One Saturday Morning," before moving to Toon Disney. The premise is centered on four pre-teens and best friends: Carter (Phil Lamarr from Futurama), Lor (Grey Griffin-DeLisle from Avatar: The Last Airbender), Tish (Kath Soucie from Rugrats), and Tino (Jason Marsden from Spirited Away). They're a group that regularly hangs out on the weekends and spends their off-school hours in the Southern California town of Bahia Bay.

It's been more than a decade since the 1990s ended, yet the Internet can't seem to go a day without a reminder of the neon slap bracelets that may have been banned from your school.

Over the course of his career Guillermo Del Toro has said yes to a lot of things. In fact, the writer/producer/director has so much on the go, we recently broke down the odds on which projects were actually going to get made. And those were just his directorial gigs. On the producing front, he's got as many projects brewing (if not more) and today he added one more. Reel FX announced that Del Toro would lend his talents as a producer on "Day Of The Dead," a new CG-animated film set to be helmed by Emmy Award winner Jorge R. Gutierrez ("El Tigre," "The Adventures of Manny Rivera") and penned by Gutierrez and fellow Emmy winner Doug Landale ("The Weekenders," "Happily N'Ever After") the film is described as a “Romeo and Juliet” style love story set against a Mexican Day of the Dead backdrop (no, not the zombie movie,...
