A late-night soap opera with hi-tech overtones, SPYDER GAMES proves to be a slick entry. The misadventures of the kids of a dead mogul are shown in different emotional categories, whether it be love, jealousy, or greed. MTV created yet another kind of personal roller coaster rides in the lives of young people, much like UNDRESSED. Only this time, the storylines of SPYDER GAMES are a lot more intriguing than mundane sex stories like in UNDRESSED.
As the story progresses it became quite interesting. It certainly moves at a faster pace than the traditional daytime soap. Certainly MUCH better than that other nebie soap Passions in my opinion. Shawn Batten is excellent and rocks and I hope to see her in more in the future.
This show is exactly why I am a slave to MTV's target marketing, even if I'm not in the TRL demographic! Understandably, it's not very cerebral, but it's what I look for when I hit MTV; it's engagingly entertaining. I enjoy the storylines on 'Undressed', but this show - since it's a serial - can expand on the relationships beyond a week or two. The interview of Byron Field (Ivan) in OUT was what got me interested in watching, and I haven't been disappointed. And from singing telegram girl to coffeeshop owner, I haven't gotten to see this much of Jane Wiedlin outside of E! in a long time! The only recommendation I have is to let Natalia quote Dolores Claiborne more often. I hope it keeps rolling...
Like most MTV shows (The Real World, Daria, Undressed) this show was pure fun and addictive. Though, this show was part soap opera part the aforementioned Undressed. It's trashy, wicked fun. I thought it was practically delicious! LOL. The cast seemed too perform well, despite most of it's overwrought plots.
I could do without any other of these dumb, cheesy drama shows. But in my opinion, this show is like a up-to-date twisted soap. It is relatively good. Every episode has something you don't expect. I will admit, it is a little cheesy. (All soaps are.) But the actors are good at least! I can't wait to find out what happens - and I hope this show isn't canceled. ***** of *****

- TriviaIn the original pilot for Spyder Games, Chrystee Pharris was originally cast as Cherish Pardee, but MTV thought she was too old for the role. The part later went to Megalyn Echikunwoke.
- Alternate versionsIn episode 4, several racy scenes were trimmed down, where Natalia takes off her panties and gives it to the lawyer, who later has a heart attack when she exposed herself mimicking Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct, while he is giving a eulogy at Boris' funeral.
