At the age of 10, Angus T. Jones received a break that most actors are left dreaming of through their entire careers. Playing the role of Jake Harper in Chuck Lorre’s Two and a Half Men, Jones eventually amassed a net worth of $20 million and became one of the most successful child actors in the industry.

However, despite the early success and the longstanding role, Jones eventually became less frequent on Two and a Half Men. He enjoyed a guest role in Seasons 11 and 12, before leaving the show altogether. That was of course, after the dramatic exit Charlie Sheen underwent in Season 9.
However, Jones’ decision to leave Two and a Half Men had nothing to do with Sheen. Instead, it was down to his newfound faith which meant that he had become a ‘god-fearing person.’

The meteoric rise and fall of Hollywood stars often capture public attention, and few stories are as compelling as that of Angus T. Jones. Starting his acting career with roles in movies like Simpatico, The Rookie, and George of the Jungle 2, Jones is best known for his role as Jake Harper on the hit sitcom Two and a Half Men.

Despite the early success and prominent position on one of television’s most popular shows, Jones’ career took a dramatic and unexpected turn, after he abruptly quit the show and would even go on to urge fans to refrain from watching the hit sitcom.

The late 1990s and early 2000s were a weird era for films. There is definitely an influence from Y2K, and it seemed like there was an attitude that anything goes from some and a tightening of the belt from others. The world was in an odd place, and this influenced everything in culture like music, television, and films. 2002 gave us a wide variety of horror, like Queen of the Damned, Fear Dot Com, Cabin Fever, Bubba Ho-Tep, Dog Soldiers, and Bloody Mallory. This was the end of an era and the start of another for David Arquette it seemed. A time when he tested the “leading man” waters. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite go as planned as box office bomb after box office bomb came. Films like Ravenous, Ready to Rumble, 3000 Miles to Graceland, See Spot Run, and The Grey Zone all featured Arquette in some form but...

There's a game I like to play when watching a Steven Spielberg movie, be it for the first time or the umpteenth. It's called "Spot the Spielberg stand-in." Mind you, not every great director includes characters who serve as their self-inserts in their films, but Spielberg is very much one of them.
Naturally, his on-screen surrogates have changed over time. When a young Spielberg made "Jaws," it was the marine biologist Matt Hooper who acted as his avatar. As the director has grown older, his stand-ins have aged and matured with him,...

The life of 16-year-old Joan Chang-Hunt, the protagonist of Vanessa Len's young-adult fantasy "Only a Monster," isn't exactly normal, but it's really her family's fault. Joan spends every summer wedged into the large London home of her grandmother, cousins, aunts, and uncles, who are known for their eccentric fashion tastes and habit of discussing art heists over breakfast. Joan loves them, but she doesn't exactly fit in: she's half-Chinese, she lives with her dad most of the time, and she's pretty ordinary apart from a more-passionate-than-usual obsession with history.
That summer, though, Joan accidentally discovers what she truly is: half-human, half-monster, a creature with the ability to travel through time by stealing it from humans and shortening the human's lifespan as a result. What's worse, her whole family - the strange, funny people she loves - have been doing this all their lives, poaching years from the unsuspecting humans around them.

She Who Became the Sun, the striking debut novel by Shelley Parker-Chan out July 20, makes it official: it's a very, very good time to be a fantasy fan. A genre in which anything is possible should be a genre in which every story is told, and fantasy is finally starting to live up to that billing.
A creative reimagining of the founding of the Ming dynasty, this sweeping historical fantasy is set in 14th-century China, where a young girl is left for dead in her dusty, famine-stricken village in the Central Plains. A fortune teller once told her that her life would amount to nothing, and those words seem about to come true.
Instead, the tenacious protagonist assumes the name and identity of her dead brother, Zhu Chongba, hoping that by doing so, she will also take on his foretold fate: to achieve the type of greatness that will span centuries.

After falling in love with Emily Henry's Beach Read last summer, I couldn't slam the button fast enough to select her newest book, People We Meet on Vacation, as my Book of the Month Club April pick. And while the two books tell completely different stories - Beach Read has an enemies-to-lovers plot, while People We Meet on Vacation is a friends-to-lovers story - I loved them equally.
People We Meet on Vacation introduces us to Poppy and Alex, who couldn't be more different, a fact the former discovers the first time they meet freshman year of college. However, they are randomly from the same small town in Ohio, and after the pair carpool back from school to said small town together, they realize that maybe they're more alike than they originally thought. A decade-long best friendship forms, with week-long trips every summer, just the two of them. That is,...

"When Do I Go From Cute to Dangerous?"
That was the sign Blue made for the children's march, and it was honest and disturbing enough to really get the point across on Queen Sugar Season 5 Episode 7.
Would Blue, at 10, be old enough to receive that "down payment" beat down that Calvin's veteran officer talked about?
Nova's idea for a children's march was inspired until the permit didn't go through. When Ralph Angel and Darla insisted on holding up their signs anyway, I was scared for them, and that feeling wasn't wrong.
The encounter with the police officer was frightening because of how easily it could have turned into another tragedy. And although I'm sure the incident will give Ralph Angel and Darla nightmares, it likely changed Blue's outlook on the world forever.
Blue had never known that kind of fear before that moment. He'd never been faced with someone in...

If you read one book that comes out in 2020, please let it be Yaa Gyasi's second novel, Transcendent Kingdom. Narrated by Gifty, a sixth-year PhD candidate at Stanford who's studying neuroscience, the book explores everything from what it's like to be a female in the hard sciences to crushing family tragedies to identifying as a second-generation Ghanaian immigrant growing up the South.
Multilayered and beautifully written, we see Gifty - who has a preference for order and infallible evidence - attempt to make sense of her mother's depression and her late-brother Nana's heroin overdose. Although reading about opioid addiction can be incredibly hard, writing about it is much harder. Gyasi's heartbreaking description of Nana's struggle to overcome his OxyContin-turned-heroin addiction after a basketball injury is unfortunately all too common in the US. The opioid epidemic is often portrayed by the media as an issue that mostly plagues white people,...

When my father was a toddler, he was adopted from an orphanage in Korea by an American couple. While we haven't been able to track down the identity of his biological Korean mother (his father was an American soldier), we do know that for reasons we may never fully understand, she gave him up for adoption to have a chance at a better life, a life she didn't think she'd ever be able to give him. It's a sacrifice I can't even begin to understand making.

A new film traces the Scream star’s journey from acting prodigy to indie-circuit fighter. Could his career rise from the canvas?
In terms of cinematic output, David Arquette hasn’t enjoyed the most successful career. After promising beginnings, when he appeared on the cover of the Vanity fair Hollywood edition alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Will Smith, his profile has been fading steadily for the last two decades. In 2001 he appeared opposite a dog in See Spot Run. In 2004 he billed below Dmx in Never Die Alone. Since 2018, the majority of his films haven’t even managed to earn their own Wikipedia pages.
There are many potential explanations for this. Bad decisions, sobriety struggles, the fickle nature of the Hollywood machine. However, a new documentary claims a different reason for Arquette’s unfulfilled potential: professional wrestling.

20th Century Fox just picked up the film rights to author Stuart Gibbs‘ book series Spy School and they plan on adapting it into a feature film franchise. Gibbs is set to write the script for the film, which will be based on the first novel in the series. Here’s the description of the story that it tells:
Ben Ripley may only be in middle school, but he’s already pegged his dream job: C.I.A. or bust. Unfortunately for him, his personality doesn’t exactly scream “secret agent.” In fact, Ben is so awkward, he can barely get to school and back without a mishap. Because of his innate nerdiness, Ben is not surprised when he is recruited for a magnet school with a focus on science—but he’s entirely shocked to discover that the school is actually a front for a junior C.I.A. academy. Could the C.

Exclusive: 20th Century Fox has optioned the New York Times‘ best-selling series Spy School by Stuart Gibbs and set the author attached to write the screenplay based on the first title in the series.
“Fox bought my first two scripts and gave me my first overall deal when I was starting out as a writer,” Gibbs said. “They have always shown such a strong commitment to adapting great books into great family movies. So I am very excited to be working with them again, and I think this is the perfect studio to adapt Spy School.”
With more than a million copies sold and translated into a dozen languages, Spy School follows middle schooler Ben Ripley, who dreams of becoming a CIA agent. Even though he is awkward and accident prone, he is brilliant and recruited for a magnet school with a focus on science that actually is a front for a junior CIA academy.

Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities, 1859
The other day two grandmothers, Mindy and Lynette, were visiting their beloved grandchild Meyer Manual. After playing and cooing and aahing and watching Alixandra attempt to feed him mashed bananas, 99% of which ended up on his bib and his chin and my elbow and just about everywhere but in his mouth, Lynette said she had to split. As she was leaving, she said to me, “I love your columns. You’re such a good writer.” (Be that as it may.) I said, “I don’t know where it comes from, I never had any formal training.” Lynette laughed, and said, “Well, I had formal training, and I can’t write like that.”
Well, I don’t know how good a writer I am; I always think I could be a gazillion-million times better.

As part of the coverage of Game Of Thrones debuting on HBO, the New York Times quoted author George R. R. Martin delivering a speech at Ambercon 3 in Wichita, Kan., on May 31, 1981.
Every would-be writer needs comic books. I certainly did. I can still vividly recall my discovery of comic books, followed closely by the revelation that this reading stuff was actually good for something. Because comic books had it all over Readers. Comic books had pictures, and so did Readers, but in comic-book pictures somebody was flying or punching somebody, while in my Reader little Sally was crying about her little red boat. Even in my prepubescent days I had this vague feeling that Wonder Woman had it all over Jane, although I couldn’t put my finger on the reason. I did know that watching Spot run was a real drag...

Mother and Child
Opens: 2010
Cast: Naomi Watts, Annette Bening, Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington
Director: Rodrigo Garcia
Summary: A tale of a mother and daughter, separated at birth, who struggle with the damage done by the most important person missing in their lives while a young African-Americn woman deals with an unwanted pregnancy and the adoption process.
Analysis: Scoring rave reviews in Toronto, the $7 million latest effort of Rodrigo Garcia ("Nine Lives," "Things You Can Tell Just By Looking At Her") once again shows off his skill at weaving multiple narratives together in clever and unexpected ways. At its heart it's an emotional family drama, but Garcia excels with his female characters which makes the involvement of Naomi Watts, Kerry Washington and especially Annette Benning thrilling.
The few criticisms levelled at the film were toward some pacing and credibility issues in the last act, but otherwise praised it for not...

There are only a couple of reason why you clicked through to read this article. A) You have kids and they still enjoy reading the books and watching the cartoons made popular by Jan and Stan Berenstain or B) You have a morbid sense of curiosity and just had to see what all the hubbub is about.
Either way, the news is true; Coming Soon points to a report from USA Today stating that Walden Media has bought the movie rights to produce The Berenstain Bears movie adaptation. The film will be a comedy with a mix of live-action and CGI (of course it will). No 3D has been announced yet, but just wait, it won’t be far behind, I’m sure.
On top of grabbing a rather obscure childrens’ property (maybe obscure isn’t the right word, let’s say ‘lesser-known children’s property’) like the Berenstain Bears,...

Working title: “Wrong Turn: With Apologies to the State of West Virginia”
“Killer hicks in the backwoods” as a film premise has been done before. What differentiates Wrong Turn from the rest is that it failed to do it well. It failed to do anything well. Put out a low-budget horror flick starring a sex symbol like Eliza Dushku wandering about in the forest and you’ll make back your production costs off of horny teenage boys alone. Wait for it to hit DVD and you’ll know for certain that you’ve got a franchise on your hands. It’s an unfortunate trend of Hollywood which benefits films like Wrong Turn and the talentless mooks who put them together. So unless you can prove you purchased this Blu-ray for the extra features alone, you’re guilty of perpetuating that cycle yourself. Shame on you.

You better watch out You better not cry You better have clout I'm telling you why Two Thumbs Down are comin' to town He's making a list,
Checking it twice;
Gonna find out whose
movie was scheiss.
Sandy Claws is comin' to town.
He sees you when you're (bleeping),
He knows when you're a fake
He knows if you've been bad or good
So be good for cinema's sake!
With little but scorn
and pounding of drums,
Rooty toot hoots
and rummy tum thumbs
Sandy Jaws is comin' to town
As I dream back over many happy years of movie going, some of my favorite lines from old reviews dance in my head like visions of sugarplums. Good movies, bad movies, doesn't matter, just so the line dances. I thought I'd share them in the holiday spirit. Curiously, most of the lines come from movies so bad I didn't want a refund,...

Leslie Bibb Hates British Food
See Spot Run beauty Leslie Bibb won't be visiting England any time soon - because she thinks the country has weird food. The sexy blonde admits during a recent trip to Europe she ate the strangest food she'd ever tried - and as a result is reluctant to return to British shores. She admits, "In London I tried that Marmite s**t. Do you know what Marmite is? It's black butter that is like taking a cup of the dead sea and drinking it. It's awful."...
