There’s only one thing that comes to mind when you think of Elvira: franchise! And that’s exactly what Cassandra Peterson – portrayer of everyone’s favorite horror hostess – wanted following the release of Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, aiming to have the sort of success of Ernest P. Worrell. Knowwhatimean, Uncle Vinnie?
Unfortunately for Cassandra Peterson, she ran into some serious issues with a sequel to 1988’s Elvira, Mistress of the Dark (which was a box office bomb anyway) when the planned studio, Carolco Pictures, went bankrupt. But Peterson had plenty in the arsenal. As she told Dread Central, “I had a ton of [ideas] that were so awesome. I had this one called Elvira Goes to Hell, and it was like a buddy picture, and I really liked that one. It was really funny. It revolved around Halloween a little bit more and I would’ve gone more...

Forget the pleasantries, today sucks. Paul Reubens, best known for his incomparable work as Pee-wee Herman, has passed away. The weird, wacky, and wonderful comedy figure is one of the most influential creatives ever to do it, and left in his wake is an irreplaceable void of silly, absurdist joy. Reubens' created the character of Pee-wee Herman while performing with The Groundlings, the legendary improvisational comedy troupe boasting alumni like Laraine Newman, Pat Morita, Craig T. Nelson, Jon Lovitz, Adrienne Barbeau, Conan O'Brien, Phil Hartman, Phil Lamarr, Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Coolidge, Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Melissa McCarthy, Will Forte, Annie Mumolo, Kaitlin Olson, Edi Patterson, Tony Cavalero, and a ridiculous number of other eventual "Saturday Night Live" players.
Pee-wee Herman was an immediate hit and led to Reubens writing, producing, directing, and starring in "The Pee-wee Herman Show." He quickly became a household name, and the Pee-wee character would get another show,...

The episode of Revisited covering Brotherhood of the Wolf was Written by Emilie Black, Narrated by Niki Minter, Edited by Ryan Cultrera, Produced by Tyler Nichols and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
Have you ever seen a film in theaters that made you go “Holy Bird Poop Batman” I wish I could see that again for the first time? Has there been a film that has made you want to find the biggest possible screen to see it on within a manageable distance? Or a film that has since become one of your “new Blu-ray player test movies”? I have. In fact, there have been a few of these in my lifetime so far, but the one for today is Brotherhood of the Wolf (watch it Here).

After The Blair Witch Project came along in 1999, it feels like the independent horror boom of the 2000s was almost a direct result of that film’s success. Throughout this decade, we saw so many writers, directors, and other industry creatives get the opportunity to establish themselves and chart their course in Hollywood, and so many of those folks are still continuing to have a huge impact on what’s going on in the genre world these days as well.
The start of the new millennium proved to be an interesting time for horror, but especially indie horror. So many may not realize it, but American Psycho was initially an indie project that went through years and years of development before Lionsgate picked up the rights to Bret Easton Ellis’ book and moved forward on the project with Mary Harron at the helm. Even David Twohy’s Pitch Black started off as an indie film,...

Though I was lucky enough to have seen the original Elvira film, Elvira: Mistress of the Dark, in theatres, the second adventure of the "Mistress of the Dark" escaped me in the early 2000s. Thankfully, Scream Factory (Shout! Factory's rad horror imprint) has us all covered with their brand-new restoration of Elvira's Haunted Hills. The million-dollar production was filmed in Romania, where the money went far and where local crew built some incredible interior sets. As I watched Elvira's Haunted Hills, I discovered that the film was a spoof on the beloved Edgar Allan Poe adaptations by Roger Corman, starring Vincent Price --- particularly House of Usher, The Tomb of Ligeia, and The Pit and the Pendulum --- with a healthy dash of humor ala Young Frankenstein. [There's a particular...

The recent news of John Paragon's death has saddened many fans, and the late actor's old friends and frequent collaborators Pee-wee Herman and Elvira are among those paying tribute. Paragon, who was perhaps best known as Jambi the Genie on Pee-wee's Playhouse, had met Paul "Pee-wee Herman" Reubens early into their careers as members of the comedy group The Groundlings. Cassandra "Elvira" Peterson was also a part of the group, and Paragon had often worked with her as well.
Taking to Facebook after Paragon's death, Paul Reubens posted an image from behind the scenes of Pee-wee's Playhouse of the actor in his Jambi makeup. The Pee-wee Herman actor also wrote a lengthy message remembering when he first met Paragon along with all the memories they would proceed to create together over the next several years. From the Facebook post:

Funko has gotten into the breakfast game with their tasty line of Funkos cereal that comes in several flavors, all with an exciting Pop toy hidden at the bottom. Yes, it's edible. Yes, it's delicious. And yes, Elvira has her own flavor. Now, the Mistress of the Dark has returned to sell her delicious Hot Topic Funkos in a new commercial that you might only ever see on Saturday morning.
Elvira has had a big presence this Halloween, though it may be a little more subtle than her horror counterparts. We haven't really seen her on the big or small screen much in recent years, so watching her hock breakfast cereal with her trademark snark firmly in place is a lot of fun. Selling them on her Twitter, the late night horror hostess offers this.
"#SaturdayMorning #weekendvibes New #ElviraFunkos cereal is out now in @HotTopic stores! Includes an @OriginalFunko Elvira mini pop in every box!

At a sold-out 20th anniversary midnight screening of Elvira, Mistress of the Dark in Hollywood this weekend, Elvira herself (aka Cassandra Peterson) let the audience in on some plans that are brewing in 2009. The horror hostess says she's in talks with the Reelz Channel for a new television program. She wouldn't offer specifics on what the show would be, however. Also, if another feature film is to get rolling any time soon, it will most likely animated. (Perhaps she was inspired while recording vocals for Rob Zombie's animated flick The Haunted World of El Superbeasto ?) Her last celluloid outing came in 2001 with Elvira's Haunted Hills . What Peterson has especially been pushing for is a proper special edition of 1988's Mistress of the Dark . Peterson revealed if...
