The influence of the most beloved classic children's and YA books of the 1980s has lived on into the present time, but there are a few truly underrated books of the '80s that deserve to be read today. Most people know the classic children's books of the 1980s, such as Matilda, Hatchet, or the Ramona Quimby books. Other series, such as the Sweet Valley High series, weren't literary juggernauts but were wildly popular nonetheless.

MCU launched actors like Hemsworth into stardom after smaller, darker roles. Hemsworth's intense performance in A Perfect Getaway showcased his early range. Despite early success in MCU, Hemsworth's prior roles displayed his versatility in acting craft.
When plainly put, the Marvel Cinematic Universe helped to make massive stars out of celebrities who were previously just drifting in and out of movies. For example — after starring in many, many films since 1970 that either barely passed at the box office (regarding ticket sales) or flat-out failed, Robert Downey Jr. flew to the sky with his role as Tony Stark in 2008's Iron Man.
Right before donning the role of the red, white, and blue hero in 2011's Captain America, Chris Evans was plagued with a line of mediocrely successful films (including a dead-on-arrival romantic comedy that almost ruined his career). Prolific screenwriter Everett De Roche, who died in Melbourne yesterday, was one of the instigators of the Ozploitation genre movement of the 1970s and 80s.
The Us-born writer, who migrated to Australia with his wife in 1968, was 67. He had battled with cancer for three years. He started as an in-house writer for Crawfords for four years in the 1970s, penning episodes of Homicide, Division 4, Ryan and Matlock Police.
His first feature screenplay was Colin Eggleston.s Long Weekend in 1978. Among his film credits were Richard Franklin.s Patrick (1978), Simon Wincer.s Harlequin (1980), Franklin.s Roadgames (1981), David Hemmings. Race to the Yankee Zephyr (1981), Russell Mulcahy.s Razorback (1984) and Franklin.s Visitors (2003).
In 2008 he and director Jamie Blanks collaborated on a remake of Long Weekend, for which he added two characters, a baby dugong and several scenes. "The basic environmental message works as well today as it did in 1978," he said.

The Comic-Con 2012 schedule has now been released in full, and barring any major updates, is set. The blessing and curse of being an attendee is deciding which panels/autograph sessions/special events to attend, when they conflict. And they always do.
For you to see for yourself, below are what we are calling the “headliner” panels; those panels that are taking place in Hall H, Ballroom 20, Room 6Bdf, and the just-next-door Hilton Indigo Ballroom, the four major venues for panels. There are descriptions of each panel as well as the show(s) and/or movie(s) they are there to discuss.
See how many conflicts you might have, or how you might arrange time and space to somehow attend these plus spend every day in the vendors’ Exhibit Hall and chasing zombies in the nearby The Walking Dead Escape. By the way, if you figure that out, Please let us know.

In the nine months since the initial invasion, the few remaining survivors have banded together outside major cities to begin the difficult task of fighting back. Each day is a test of survival as citizen soldiers work to protect the people in their care while also engaging in an insurgency campaign against the occupying alien force, whose nature and purpose remains a mystery.
As the second season of Falling Skies opens, three months have passed since Tom Mason (Noah Wyle) went willingly with the aliens in one of their ships. Nobody has seen or heard from him during this time, and his absence has taken its toll on his sons.

Don Groves is a Deadline contributor based in Sydney. Australian actor Luke Hemsworth plans to move to Hollywood, joining his younger brothers Chris and Liam. Luke, 32, signed with Roar Management, which also reps his siblings, about a year ago. His Australian agent, Mark Morrissey, tells Deadline the actor has decided to pursue a career in the U.S. but hasn’t yet set a time to relocate because it also involves his wife and their three young children. Morrissey said Roar has been sending Luke scripts but he hasn’t committed to anything. Luke starred in Bikie Wars: Brothers in Arms, a miniseries that chronicled a war between Sydney two motorcycle clubs in 1984 which resulted in the deaths of seven people; it aired this month on Network Ten. Luke began his acting career in the children’s series The Saddle Club almost 10 years ago, before either of his brothers entered the business.

I hope you've been keeping up with Falling Skies, the hit TNT show about an alien invasion of Earth. As you may recall from my Falling Skies review, I was a little hesitant about predicting viewer response after the first couple of episodes. I liked the show, but this is a tricky genre in terms of guessing how audiences will respond. Well, they apparently responded quite well, and you probably know that the show has been picked up for a second season.
Actually, I was especially curious about how fans would react to the last couple of episodes, and now that they've aired, I'd be interested to know what people thought of them.
But, it's finale time now, and this Sunday brings an episode you don't want to miss. It's all been building up to this, and the 2-hour finale is going to throw out a lot of interesting material,...

In just a few days, TNT will begin airing Falling Skies, its hope that it can succeed in a genre that hasn't performed especially well of late, and a lot of that hope rests on the fact that it gets to use the names Noah Wyle and Steven Spielberg (not necessarily in that order).
The main idea people are going to attach to the show is that it has aliens in it, but it actually has a lot more in common with things like the classic British series Survivors (or the remake), than with the alien-related offerings that have made their way to television recently.
We enter the show with the alien invasion long underway. In fact, the Earth is fairly well conquered already, and the human survivors are few and far between. Technological comforts are rare, and so is food, and existence has devolved into mere survival. Small pockets of resistance have formed,...

A new sneak-peek of the Steven Spielberg-produced TNT show Falling Skies has appeared on youtube. The sci-fi show, which stars Noah Wyle will premiere on TNT on Sunday June 19, and on FX UK in July.
Falling Skies focuses on the resilience of the survivors and their determination to maintain their humanity when all else has been destroyed. It is a tale of endurance, commitment and courage in which everyday people are called upon to become heroes. They may be outmatched, outnumbered and outgunned, but nothing can beat the human spirit. Most of all, the series is about the ties that bind people together in the most difficult of circumstances.
The former ER actor stars as Tom Mason, a former Boston history professor whose family has been torn apart, by the death of his wife, who was killed in the initial attack, and the capture of one of his three sons.

TNT has released a great new creepily cool sneak peek for their new series from producer Steven Spielberg, Falling Skies. I love what was shown in this footage, the show looks great, it has a very eerie feel to it, and it simply looks like a solidly awesome show that I will enjoy watching.
The series stars Noah Wyle as a former college professor who becomes the leader of a group of soldiers and civilians struggling against an occupying alien force. Moon Bloodgood co-stars as Anne Glass, a therapist who works with the surviving children to help them cope with the traumatic situation. The series also stars Drew Roy as Hal and Maxim Knight as Matt, Tom's two sons; and Seychelle Gabriel as Lourdes, an orphaned teenager who helps run the group's commissary. Will Patton plays a fierce leader of the resistance.
The series will premiere on TNT Sunday, June 19th at 9/8c.

The New York Post has debuted the first trailer for the upcoming TV series Falling Skies, which will debut in June 2011. Click below to watch the first footage from this new alien invasion series, which is executive produced by Steven Spielberg. The show looks phenomenal! A great combination of Jericho and Terminator meets V, with some great character actors in the casting. I was really excited to see Will Patton in the preview.
The first season will feature ten episodes and revolve around the chaotic aftermath of an alien attack that has left most of the world completely incapacitated. In the six months since the initial invasion, the few survivors have banded together outside major cities to begin the difficult task of fighting back. Each day is a test of survival, as citizen soldiers work to protect the people in their care while also engaging in an insurgency campaign against the occupying alien force.
