Gael García Bernal to received inaugural Latin American Cinema Award at San Sebastian Photo: Courtesy of San Sebastian Film Festival The San Sebastian Film Festival has announced that it is inaugurating a Latin Cinema Award this year. The first recipient will be given to Gael García Bernal.

The Mexican actor - who also has a number of directing and producing credits - will receive his award at the Gala screening of Pablo Larraín’s Neruda, in which he co-stars.

Festival director José Luis Rebordinos said: “The creation of this award represents a new landmark in the Festival’s relationship with the Latin world, making for even stronger ties with its film industry while expressing appreciation for our filmmakers’ work”.

This will be Bernal’s third visit to the Festival since he came with his debut film Amores Perros, selected in 2000. He returned in 2001 in support of Y Tu Mamá También...

The actress begged her director husband to be a part of the film and when he agreed he presented her with some research she had to work with.

And the Brit admits Burton's ideas for the character really helped her become the Red Queen.

She tells WENN, "He said to think of Elizabeth I and I said that I got that. He said it was Bette Davis in the film of Elizabeth I, The Privates Lives Of Elizabeth And Essex. So I watched that and then Joan Crawford in Mommie Dearest.

"The voice kind of came from my daughter; I thought that the Red Queen had arrested development and that I was pitching her about two years old... She's like a toddler, she has a tantrum all the time. She's a toddler tyrant - toddlers are tyrants!

"They've got no sympathy for any other living creatures... the toddler thing was a big thing. My two year old daughter - she is quieter now - was retrospective inspiration. Two is kind of the time when you don't have any empathy for any other living creature. You slap things and it's all about me. That's Ok in a toddler but not in a grown-up toddler."...

Bernal and Argentine Fonzi have refused to discuss the baby's gender, since announcing the actress' pregnancy last month.

But Fernando Meirelles, who directed Bernal in new movie Blindness, made the announcement on his friend's behalf at the Toronto FIlm Festival in Canada over the weekend (6-7Sep08).

Meirelles told People.com, "It's a chico! A boy. I was talking to him about (the baby) today and he's so excited. He said he's had time to prepare and he's really looking forward to it."

The child will be the first for the couple, who reportedly met and fell in love while shooting the movie Vidas Privadas in 2001.
