To understand "Left Behind," one must understand a version of Christianity not widely practiced by many people outside certain pockets of the United States. In some American Evangelical churches, they preach of the coming Rapture, when all of the Christians on Earth -- including the dead ones -- will be bodily scooped up by God and transported into Heaven. The idea of a Rapture is taken from an interpretation from the Book of Thessalonians which didn't enter into the Christian lexicon until about the 1830s, making it a very recent development. When Evangelical churches began to become popular in the United States in the 1950s, a stripe of fundamentalist theology began embracing the Rapture as a prophecy that was almost immediately nigh.

It's last call for several horror films, including "The Silence of the Lambs" and the "The Omen" trilogy, which are leaving Netflix in December.
Also going bye-bye: Both versions of manly tearjerker "Brian's Song" and classics including "All About Eve" (1950), "The Great Escape" (1963) and "The Hustler" (1961). And if you want to stream '80s favorites "The Dark Crystal" (1982) or "Labyrinth" (1986), better get on that before December 1.

The original Left Behind was not a quality film. This isn’t coming from me, as I haven’t seen it; I’m going by the word of Jerry B. Jenkins, one of the authors of the original sixteen “Left Behind” novels. According to Jenkins, he and his writing partner Tim Lahaye sold away their movie rights to the first available outlet, and ended up with three “church basement movies.” I’ve never seen a movie in a church basement, but I’m guessing they’re not of the highest quality. And that’s why Jenkins and Lahaye sued Cloud Ten Pictures Inc., on the grounds that Left Behind: The Movie, Left Behind II: Tribulation Force and Left Behind: World at War were bad movies. Apparently, that’s a thing you can do now. It’s also a thing you can win, because in 2008, Jenkins and Lahaye emerged the victors after almost a decade of legal squabbling...

Usually June is associated with the first real month of summer -- a time to go out and frolic through the wilderness like a snowman that doesn't know any better. But it also gets really, really hot, which has people retreating to their local multiplex or, even better, their luxuriously air-conditioned living rooms. With that in mind, take a look at the television shows and movies that will be available on Netflix's steaming service come June (via Vulture).
Thought the snail-who-dreamed-of-being-a-racecar saga ended with last summer's DreamWorks Animated joint "Turbo?" Think again. Apparently there's a television spin-off. And you can watch it on Netflix. We also have to give it up for a pair of wonderful sequels that are going to be on in June: the obviously-shot-in-Canada-even-though-it's-set-in-New York robo-epic "Short Circuit 2" (a favorite since childhood) and the far darker and more sinister "Wolf Creek 2," a sequel to the...

Lea Thompson has signed on to star in the Left Behind remake for Films In Motion and director Vic Armstrong.
The actress is portraying the wife of Nicolas Cage's Ray Steele, who warns her family that the apocalypse is coming, but ends up pushing them farther away from her in the process. The story is set after the Rapture, where millions of people around the world suddenly disappear, leaving the rest of the Earth's population to deal with a planet embroiled in utter chaos and destruction. She joins a cast that also includes Chad Michael Murray, Cassi Thomson, Nicky Whelan, Quinton Aaron and Jordin Sparks.
Paul Lalonde and John Patus co-wrote the screenplay, based on the novel series by Tim Lahaye and Jerry B. Jenkins, which has sold more than 65 million copies in the United States. Production is currently under way in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

There are three Left Behind movies, and the order is: Left Behind (2000), Left Behind II: Tribulation Force (2002) and Left Behind: World at War (2005). Fourth in a series of films based on the bestselling novels by Tim Lahaye and Jerry Jenkins is starting to take shape.
One Tree Hill star Chad Michael Murray is in talks to join Nicolas Cage and stunt-master-turned-director Vic Armstrong who are reportedly teaming up to reboot the film series.
If Murray signs on to star in the project, then he will be playing the role of journalist Cameron ‘Buck’ Williams in the thriller.
Cage has already signed on for the lead role of Rayford Steele in a remake of the Christian-themed franchise that will follow a group of survivors during the first few hours after the Rapture.

Another day, another piece of Nicholas Cage casting news! This guy is signed on to star in so many film projects that I'm starting to think that he's got a Cage clone out there helping him out. He's currently in talks to star in a faith based action thriller called Left Behind. The movie is based on a series of books written by Tim Lahaye and Jerry B. Jenkins, dealing with the End Times. It features a Christian eschatological viewpoint of the end of the world.
Apparently, this will also be a reboot of a film series already made that starred Kirk Cameron. I've never seen the original films or read the books, but from the research I've done on it it sounds like it will make for an interesting film series. It's easy to see Cage take on a project like this.

Just how bad is Nicolas Cage‘s IRS bill? It’s no secret that Cage started taking any offer a few years back in an effort to stave off the tax man, and the result has been a series of films that not even he can tell apart. Seriously, can you spot the difference between Seeking Justice, Trespass, and Stolen? He’s managed to mix in a few accidental gems along the way, but it’s still a sad state of affairs for an Academy Award-winning actor with both talent and personality to spare. But that was just the beginning of his fall though. Per Variety, Cage is negotiating to star in a theatrical reboot of the Left Behind series. Holy shit indeed. Left Behind is the first installment of a bestselling, sixteen-book series by Tim Lahaye and Jerry Jenkins that chronicles the adventures of the sinners left on Earth after the Rapture has sucked all the...

Nicolas Cage is preparing for the end of the world ... again.
The "Ghost Rider" star will have his faith tested as he's signed on to star in the reboot of "Left Behind," according to Heat Vision.
"Left Behind" is based on the mega-successful 16-book series written by Tim Lahaye and Jerry Jenkins that focuses on the Christian beliefs of the End Times and the Rapture in the context of contemporary political thrillers. Kirk Cameron starred in the original film trilogy consisting of "Left Behind: The Movie" (2000), "Left Behind II" Tribulation Force" (2002) and "Left Behind: World at War" (2005).
The new series will focus on the same themes but in a much more mainstream direction, taking on the form of a classic disaster film that chronicles the first few hours after the Rapture and focuses on the survivors.
Nicolas Cage has certainly dealt with epic disasters and the end of the world before,...

In the same week that we learned about an Ernest reboot, we've now been given an even more appropriate sign of the impending apocalypse: the Left Behind series is also getting a reboot. What's even weirder is the fact that Nicolas Cage is reportedly in talks to headline the film. (Okay... maybe that's not so weird.) Based on the popular series of Christian books by Tim Lahaye and Jerry Jenkins, the original Left Behind trilogy starred former Growing Pains heartthrob Kirk Cameron in the lead role. The story revolves around survivors left behind on Earth after The Rapture who are forced to take on the Anti-Christ. But will Cage be playing the Kirk Cameron role or the Anti-Christ? Hopefully the latter. According to Variety, the project is being set up by Paul Lalonde, former head of St. Catharines-based production company Cloud Ten Pictures. Cloud Ten produced the previous trilogy, so...

Kirk Cameron, Left Behind Kirk Cameron: Gays 'Unnatural' – Plus Cameron's Banana Video As for Kirk Cameron, he hasn't had a very fruitful film career, as the vast majority of his work has been restricted to television. During his Growing Pains heyday in the '80s, Cameron was seen in only a handful of mainstream releases, all but one box-office bombs — e.g., Douglas Day Stewart's romantic drama Listen to Me (1989), opposite Jami Gertz, and the Robin Williams-Kurt Russell comedy The Best of Times (1986). The second phase of Cameron's film career is comprised of a few movies geared to Evangelical Christian audiences in the United States. In Vic Sarin's Armaggedon-themed Left Behind (2001), Cameron plays television journalist Buck Williams, described by the New York Times' Stephen Holden as "the most golly gee-whiz young journalist to appear since Jimmy Olsen stalked Superman." For all his naiveté, Williams uncovers...

Ever since I read Richard Matheson’s I Am Legend back in middle school, I immediately saw the potential written prose had, as oppose to cinema, for conveying a great zombie story. A story that was not only affective pop horror but intelligent and thought provoking as well.
I already feel many of you about to pounce; “I Am Legend wasn’t about zombies! I Am Legend was about vampires! Rabble, rabble, rabble!” Little pop-culture lesson for you. Zombies, as you know them today, have little to nothing to do with their like-named voodoo predecessor. The zombie, as redefined by the great George Romero, based in the work of Matheson, is strongly rooted in vampire lore. Each are undead, each feed on the living, each die only (usually) after trauma to a major organ, each turn others into horrid abominations such as themselves via inflicted bite. Simpley because I Am Legend...
