Dec. 15 marked the arrival of Dua Lipa’s orchestral concert special, An Evening With Dua Lipa, which she performed in the round at the Royal Albert Concert Hall Oct. 17. The special aired on CBS Sunday night, and it is now available to stream on Paramount+.
The “Dance the Night” singer performed songs from her most recent album Radical Optimism as well as some from previous albums — Future Nostalgia and her self-titled Dua Lipa. She performed “Cold Heart” with the one and only Elton John, who made an appearance at the concert hall to sing alongside Lipa, who changed outfits at this point in the show.
She spoke with Deadline about the specificity of the arrangements of her hit songs, which of course sound different stripped back, but retain the same sounds listeners are used to. Ben Foster conducted the 53-piece Heritage Orchestra that accompanied Lipa along with a 14-strong choir.

Grammy voting is underway, so we’ve been poring over submissions throughout the past few days. While Grammy pundits do our best to anticipate what artists and labels will submit, each year we get a few surprises, and the 2025 Grammys are no different.
SEEBeyonce Grammy submissions: 12 chances for nominations across pop, rap, country, Americana categories Sabrina Carpenter’s “Please Please Please” in Song of the Year
Carpenter’s team had the difficult task of figuring out how and where to submit her multiple big hits. It seemed likely that the starlet would go all in on “Espresso,” arguably the most prominent of her hits, and submit it across the board. However, Carpenter’s “Please Please Please,” her first number-one hit, was her selection for Song of the Year. It’s likely that she is locked in for a nomination there regardless of her submission, so it’s nice to see...

The first tease of the LP, “Judas Mind,” is a surging post-grunge track that juxtaposes muted, melodic verses with raging choruses. Dua Lipa headlined the Glastonbury Festival on Friday night, and during her set she brought out Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker to join her on a pair of tracks.

John Cale is on a formidable hot streak in his 80s. When the Welsh avant-garde legend released Mercy last year, it was his first album in a decade. But he’s already produced another gem with POPtical Illusion, a masterful tribute to his bleak imagination. Six decades into his career, Cale is making music with a renewed sense of urgency—he hit a creative turning point in the pandemic, in a frenzy where he wrote 80 songs in a year. Yet he’s reached one of the most adventurous phases in his ever-eccentric career.

“If you’ve done things you’d wished you’ve never done/Think of the things you’re going to do tonight,” John Cale sings over bubbly synths on “Davies and Wales,” a track from his 18th studio album, Poptical Illusion. The Welsh musician has never shied away from playing with textures and sounds, exploring chamber pop, post-punk, R&b, and just about every genre in between. And each of the album’s songs feels like a kaleidoscope of sound that ebbs and flows between serene resonance and hauntingly frantic beats.
No two tracks on Poptical Illusion sound alike, paralleling the sense of change and uncertainty that informs Cale’s lyrics. Opener “God Make Me Do It (Don’t Ask Me Again)” introduces this concept—more like a fixation, really—with layers of digitized percussion, steady synthetic echoes, and Cale’s slow, deep vocals, while the hopeful “Edge of Reason...

Slash teams up with composer Bear McCreary for an epic new song “The End of Tomorrow” from the latter’s forthcoming album, The Singularity, arriving May 3rd.
The near-11-minute track opens with an instrumental orchestral intro before Slash’s guitar cuts through the mix. His tone and style are immediately recognizable, with McCreary entrusting the Guns N’ Roses axeman with the main melodic lines in the arrangement.

Bear’s brother, Brendan McCreary, contributes lead vocals to the track and assumes a prominent role, as the song traverses many movements and cinematic turns — not surprising given Bear’s background in film, television, and video game scores.
For those approaching the song via Slash’s notable guest spot — namely Gn’R fans — “The End of Tomorrow” immediately recalls “November Rain” in its maximalism and narrative weight, and the Use Your Illusion masterpiece was a direct influence according to McCreary.

The countdown to Dua Lipa’s third studio album Radical Optimism will continue with the release of its third single “Illusion,” out April 11. The album will arrive in full on May 3, but first the singer has some bluff-calling to do.
“Don’t you know I could do this dance all night?” Lipa asks in the snippet for “Illusion,” which features pulsating pop production. “Ooh, what you doin’? / Don’t know who you think that you’re confusing / I be like, “Ooh, it’s amusing” / You think I’m gonna fall for an illusion.

Singer-songwriter Dua Lipa, who recently released her album ‘Radical Optimism’, has spoken up on her eureka moment.
The singer shared that it was a song called ‘Illusion’, where she felt that lyrically she got the radical optimism, reports ‘Variety’.
Dua spoke with ‘Variety’ in an interview and shared that she felt very strong in the moment when she was writing that song.
The singer said: “I felt in a stronger power of position, because I was like maybe before, I would have fallen for something like this and now I can dance with the illusion, and it’s something for me too, you know? I think musically also, when Kevin and Danny came together and it was the live drums and the synths and the big music breakdown, in my head the big dance moment, when all those came together it was just a feeling.”

Exclusive: Indie distributor Variance Films has snapped up North American rights to the period drama Amerikatsi, written and directed by and starring Michael A. Goorjian, slating it for an exclusive theatrical release in New York and L.A. on Friday, September 8, with a national rollout to follow.

Mumbai, April 19 (Ians) Singer Guru Randhawa, who is known for chartbusters like ‘Lahore’, ‘Suit Suit’, ‘Ban Ja Rani’, has once again collaborated with Nikhita Gandhi of ‘Jugnu’ fame after their last hit ‘Naach Meri Rani’. The new track is titled ‘Illusion’ and is inspired by Guru’s memory of his school crush.
The lyrics of the song narrate Guru’s heartfelt recollection of his school crush where he imagines a hypothetical conversation he could never have with her.
Talking about the song, Guru Randhawa said: “The very first thought that struck my mind after hearing about this was – Let’s do it! It was an instant yes for this exceptional collaboration, and I didn’t give it a second thought”.
He further mentioned: “I am extremely happy to be a part of this with my dear friend Nikhita. The track that we have worked on together – Illusion is a wonderful Punjabi post-house record,...

Following a year of virtual promotions due to the pandemic, Karina, Giselle, Winter, and Ningning are taking on 2022 full force. The Cranberries wrote the music for In the End in the year leading up to Dolores O’Riordan’s death and even though they had no way of knowing that this would be their parting statement, almost everything about it exudes finality. Many of the songs are about moving on or trying to move on from something, and O’Riordan’s voice is strong, but it suggests restlessness. She sounds both worn down by some of the subject matter (the liltingly beautiful “All Over Now” is about domestic violence, the...

Kirk Douglas has a lot going for him ... including longevity, because he's still out having fun at the ripe old age of 102!!! Kirk was camping in grandson Cameron's backyard Friday ... maybe it's not full-blown camping, but still ... the guy's 102 and hangin' in a tent. Mr. Spartacus was laying on an inflatable mattress with a couple pillows for support ... poolside, of course. Kirk was rockin' a pair of sunglasses as he took in the sights. His son,...

Inspired by the interface of video games, Czech documentarian Katerina Tureckova’s portrait of life under Hungarian strongman president Viktor Orban, “Illusion,” had audiences buzzing at the 22nd Ji.hlava docu fest this year.
One of 13 entries in the Czech Joy section, her film, structured as a video game, is no diversion in digital playtime but rather an unconventional exploration of the darkest aspects of life under an increasingly totalitarian state. The Czech director lived in Budapest during filming, witnessing friends at the George Soros-founded Central European University facing increasing harassment as the school was finally driven out of the country to a new site in Vienna.
What motivated you to take on showing life in an illiberal democracy?
It was more the subject of my life than a film. I lived there for 10 months and from the first month I knew I couldn’t stay there. My friend was studying at Central European University,...

Madrid — As far as film genres go, comedies often have the greatest difficulties in traveling abroad and translating in a meaningful way to foreign audiences. But, by the very nature of its narrative, Daniel Castro’s “Old Man in Love,” and upcoming project and part of the Ecam Incubator for Spanish films in development, will to buck that trend.
An intercontinental “love story,” “Old Man in Love” follows a too-trusting professor in his 70s across the globe as he looks to track down the four-decades-younger girl of his dreams.
Carlos, who teaches at the University of Navarre – one of Spain’s most prestigious and conservative Catholic universities – has all but given up on finding love as his online endeavors to court someone less than half his age have so far proved fruitless.
Just as his hope runs out, the genial geriatric is contacted by a young swimsuit model in Argentina named Claudia,...

War is hell, for sure, but war can make for undeniably brilliant movie-making. Here, the Guardian and Observer's critics pick the ten best

• Top 10 horror movies
• Top 10 sci-fi movies
• Top 10 crime movies
• Top 10 arthouse movies

10. Where Eagles Dare
As the second world war thriller became bogged down during the mid-60s in plodding epics like Operation Crossbow and The Heroes of Telemark, someone was needed to reintroduce a little sang-froid, some post-Le Carré espionage, and for heaven's sake, some proper macho thrills into the genre. Alistair Maclean stepped up, writing the screenplay and the novel of Where Eagles Dare simultaneously, and Brian G Hutton summoned up a better than usual cast headed by Richard Burton (Major Jonathan Smith), a still fresh-faced Clint Eastwood (Lieutenant Morris Schaffer), and the late Mary Ure (Mary Elison).

One of the favorite parlor games the morning after the Grammy Awards is the predictable bellyaching about which artists got robbed during the big show. And the category that typically draws the most Monday-morning quarterbacking is the biggest one of the night: Album of the Year.
Long before the 54th annual ceremony Sunday night, the drumbeat had already begun about an album that failed to make the list despite its wide critical acclaim and deep musicality. Though he's the leading nominee at this year's ceremony with seven nods, Kanye West's career-defining My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy failed to make the cut for the night's top prize.
