Weird

Carlton your doorman, he sounds like Garfield, and looks like a skinny Hulk Hogan. No Rhoda. Ok unsold pilot, but if it did sell, it wouldn't last more than 3 episodes.

It somehow earned an Emmy.

Back in the 1970s, the mediocre comedy "Rhoda" had a recurring character that you never saw...Carlton the doorman (the voice of Lorenzo Music). He would call up to Rhoda and make all sorts of irrelevant and strange comments in addition to announcing folks who came to see her. Based on this alone, someone thought that giving Carlton his own animated series would be a good idea. Apparently, it wasn't such a good idea as the networks passed on this and the pilot episode is all that was created. Were they right or was this a potentially great show? At least SOMEONE liked it, as the one episode which aired earned an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program!

So did I enjoy this show? No. Much of it was because on "Rhoda" you got tiny bits with Carlton--perhaps 20-40 seconds each show. But here you have a rather annoying character for half an hour....and it just left me rather cold. Not 100% terrible...but not good, that's for sure.

My guess is that it received an Emmy because the category was rather empty that year.
