Bruce Willis is arguably one of the best action stars ever to be featured on the big screen. Before he retired from acting in 2022, Willis demonstrated himself to be a diverse talent by taking roles in comedies, dramas, and even movies that bordered on musicals (Hudson Hawk), proving his talents over and over again.
Toward the end of his career, Willis made movies that critics chided and audiences scoffed at. Despite poor reviews and low scores on sites like Rotten Tomatoes, several of these movies are not as bad as they appear to be. Additionally, they should be viewed within the context they were made and with all the information.
Assassin is one of these movies. Here's what Assassin is about, how it was received, and, ultimately, why its harsh treatment was unwarranted.

Before Bruce Willis became a global star with the action franchise Die Hard and the horror film The Sixth Sense, he was a TV star. He rose to fame as the private detective David Addison in Moonlighting, which also featured Cybill Shepherd. The role even earned him a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and a Golden Globe.
While the actor then moved on to films after making the action blockbuster Die Hard, he returned as a guest star on Friends. Willis won his second Emmy for the role of Paul Stevens and the guest role was reportedly a result of a bet between him and his The Whole Nine Yards co-star Matthew Perry.

Theresa Randles dubious recasting for Bad Boys: Ride or Die (2024) has raised the eyebrows of some fans who are wondering about the actor switch. Randle debuted the role of Theresa Burnett, wife to Martin Lawrences Marcus Burnett, in the first Bad Boys back in 1995. The actress later reprised her role in Bad Boys II (2003) and Bad Boys for Life (2020). Because of Randles previous reprisal of her Bad Boys role, it was surprising not to see the actress return in Bad Boys: Ride or Die.
Theresa Burnett is still a key character in the franchise sequel, as she and Marcus have kids together who play important roles in Ride or Die. Taking over for Randle in Bad Boys: Ride or Die is Tasha Smith, an actress known for her work in projects such as The Whole Ten Yards and Empire. However, as the fourth Bad Boys' success showed the love of the franchise is still strong,...

Willis’ vulnerability in sharing her experience has resonated with her followers, as she emphasized in her caption that “Healing doesn’t have to mean clear skin, and it doesn’t mean intrusive thoughts stop intruding, and it doesn’t mean you’re not gonna do it again. “Ma’am, I’m 10 years old, you think I could write this alone? I don’t think so.” The age demographics in Hollywood are about to skew a lot younger because a pre-teen has pitched an idea that is soon enough going to be written for the screen – and it’s a wonder it hasn’t been made yet. Here we have Home Alone meets The Godfather, in which we imagine one scene where Kevin McCallister jumps on his parents’ bed, only to find a decapitated horse head at the foot of it. The title? Little Wiseguy.
But the pitch doesn’t come from a desperate studio suit but rather a 10-year-old named Connor Esterson, who you may actually be familiar with, as he co-starred in last year’s Spy Kids: Armageddon. And while Esterson has very likely seen Home Alone numerous times around the holiday season, he admits he...

Cinderella is out for vengeance in Cinderella's Revenge, an upcoming horror film by Andy Edwards starring Lauren Staerck (Trust) and Natasha Henstridge (Species). In Disney's version of Cinderella (the most popular version of the classic children's tale), the heroine is pushed around by her evil stepmother and stepsisters but never acts violently against them. Things will look a little different in this retelling, and Cinderella will switch out her glass shoes and use the assistance of her Fairy Godmother to seek bloody vengeance.
In a statement to Deadline, who first reported the news, Sobini Films' Mark Amin said:
"Cinderella is the most famous fairy tale in the world. We were able to develop a great horror script that is also a female empowerment story with global appeal."
Staerck, best known for her roles in Trust, Bad Influencers and The P.A, will star as the titular character, while Natasha Henstridge will portray the Fairy Godmother.

Die Hard was far from the only Bruce Willis Franchise, but how do they rank alongside one another? While he may have retired from acting in 2022, Willis leaves behind an incredible filmography. It's true that action movies may have been his most successful projects, but he appeared in everything from horror (The Sixth Sense) to drama (In Country) and even had his own children's TV series (Bruno The Kid). While some action stars may have struggled with roles outside the genre, Willis was able to switch between drama, comedy, romance and everything in between with ease.
Like any major star, Willis made his share of duds (with Hudson Hawk being one of the most infamous), but even his weakest offerings (usually) had something to enjoy. Outside of the Die Hard movies, the star tended to avoid franchises until later in his career, but during the 2000s, he frequently began to...

With Lovecraft Country still providing HBO and HBO Max with its horror content through October, the streamer is looking elsewhere for its spooky season offerings. HBO Max’s new releases for October 2020 feature some truly awesome horror library titles.

In 2004, Easter fell on the second weekend of April. It featured Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ” as the #1 film, ousting Guillermo del Toro’s “Hellboy.” That was no accident as part of a brilliantly executed release that achieved results far beyond anything Gibson anticipated.

1. “Trollhunters” Season 1 (available December 23)
Why Should I Watch It? Two big reasons: First, the director of “Pan’s Labyrinth,” Guillermo del Toro, created “Trollhunters,” an animated event series about a teenager who discovers a mystical amulet that unveils a secret civilization of trolls beneath his hometown. If the Oscar nominee himself isn’t enough, there’s another creative force — in addition to the impressive voice cast of Kelsey Grammer, Ron Perlman and Charlie Saxton — to pay attention to: Said teenager is voiced by Anton Yelchin, in what’s being billed his final role. After debuting two episodes at New York Comic-Con in October, del Toro said he never even discussed replacing Yelchin. “We didn’t go into a meeting,” del Toro said. “We didn’t have a conference. […] He was a great guy to work with, he was proud of what he did, we were proud of what he did.

The new year is upon us, and it’s time to clean up Netflix once again. Don’t fear too much though, as much as we hate to see some of our favorites leave Netflix, they do a pretty good job at adding some great new content. We lose Almost Famous, A Clockwork Orange, American Psycho, The Graduate, Planes, Trains and Automobiles and all the Rocky movies – and we get Intolerable Cruelty, Training Day, The Rundown and a new Netflix Original for Degrassi: The Next Class.

Warner Bros. is being taken to court again by two Germany film companies that claim the studio breached a settlement agreement covering four films and is violating their copyright to Laws of Attraction, starring Pierce Brosnan and Julianne Moore. The Zweite Academy and the Erste Academy — together captioned and abbreviated as "Mhf" — previously sued Warner Bros. in 2012 over films that included The Whole Ten Yards, The In Laws and Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever. The plaintiffs produced the films and entered into distribution agreements with special purpose entities in return for a minimum guaranty, earmarked gross receipts and

Remember when Bruce Willis used to make interesting, original movies, like Pulp Fiction, Twelve Monkeys and The Fifth Element? An air of excitement would surround each announcement detailing which project the actor would get involved with next. It’s been some time since that excitement has been felt, however, because Willis has essentially been making the same movie, repeatedly, for years. The next product from that assembly line will be Extraction, directed by Steven C. Miller (Silent Night).
The plot focuses on a father and son duo of – wait for it – CIA agents, with Willis as the seasoned elder operative who is traumatized by the – you guessed it – murder of his wife. His less-experienced CIA operative son is working with him on the manufacture of a super-weapon known as the Condor, but is thrust into the driving seat when his father, Willis, is kidnapped by terrorists. Aaron Paul became a critically acclaimed actor while appearing in a recurring role on the television series Big Love and earned even more praise – and won two Emmy Awards – for his starring role on Breaking Bad. So why is it that the movie Need for Speed, which starred Paul, underperformed in U.S. theaters this past weekend?
Just because Paul is an award-winning actor on television does not mean audiences were going to pack the theaters to see his movie. In fact, there is a long history of wildly popular television stars who fail in their attempt to transition to movie stardom. In many cases, these TV stars made poor choices when it came to film roles. In other instances, viewers simply had no interest in seeing these actors play anything else but their beloved TV characters.

Embattled movie financier David Bergstein's lawsuit against Aramid Entertainment Fund, claiming it breached terms of a 2009 settlement of a loan dispute, was dismissed Aug. 5 by a Los Angeles Superior Court judge, who ruled the same action cannot be amended or re-filed. Bergstein, who has been credited as a producer on films like The Whole Ten Yards and Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, had sought some $50 million in damages from Aramid, Screen Capital International, fund manager David Molner and related parties whom he blames for the 2010 involuntary bankruptcy of five companies he once ran. There's obviously a market out there for sequels — just look at the summer movie release schedule and you'll find at least one a week. And hey, sometimes a film leaves us wondering what happens next.
But sometimes there are films that had no need for a part two, where audiences left the theater the first go-round and said, "I'm good." And in the case of these ten films, we've got the numbers to prove it!
Hollywood, heed our wisdom: Sometimes it's best to just leave well enough alone.
10. 'Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights' (2004) — Sequel to 'Dirty Dancing' (1987)
• "Dirty Dancing": $62,811,299
• "Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights": $14,140,215
So you had the time of your life in 1987? Big deal. You can't relive the magic 17 years later by conceiving a half-hearted retread set against the backdrop of revolutionary Cuba. Really, this film has nothing to do with the original, save for a brief Patrick Swayze cameo.

After three years of legal battles in bankruptcy court, Ronald Tutor and his former partner in the movie business David Bergstein have won an important legal victory that appears to open the door for Tutor to finally sell more than 500 movies that have been frozen for months by a legal injunction including The Whole Ten Yards, Woody Allen’s Sweet And Lowdown, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and the Oscar-winning documentary Taxi To The Darkside. It seems like Bruce Willis is the undeniable king of appearing in unnecessary sequels. His conscience as of late has to have gone something like this: “Parts in The Expendables 2 and GI Joe: Retaliation, yeah sure why not?” Or how about, “Another Die Hard movie that’s basically an insult to the fundamental ideas of the original? Well if there’s a lucrative paycheck involved, then okay.” And I know it came out nearly ten years ago, but don’t even get me started on The Whole Ten Yards. Now we’ve got Red 2, one of those head-scratching sequels that make you wonder how it was even an option until you check the box office returns on the original. The first Red movie was made for a modest $58 million and made upwards of $199 million in domestic and foreign ticket sales.

Red 2 will put the pop back in your popcorn. Remember the days when a summer film was about entertainment. Some explosions, a little chase, an errant snide comment, those were the good old days. If you’re looking to get off the brooding express and get back into your 10-year-old lovin’ Die Hard mindset, Red 2 is the film for you. The beauty of Red 2 is that it fulfills on the promise that The Whole Ten Yards failed to deliver on nearly ten years ago. Once again, Bruce Willis has the opportunity to bind together a cast of eccentric characters while not dominating the film himself. Willis is often at his best when he is at his subtlest. Still, it’s not a Willis film if he isn’t kicking a little butt. In one sequence, Willis is engaged in close quarters combat with the henchman of a villain played by Neil McDonough.

Disney is already lining up a sequel to Oz: The Great and Powerful on the eve of its theatrical release tomorrow. Mitchell Kapner, who co-wrote the first screenplay with David Lindsay-Abaire, has been hired to pen the follow-up.
No story details have been released for the sequel, but there are a few things that the writer legally cannot include in the story. L. Frank Baum's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is in the public domain, which means the writer can use anything contained in that book. However, he cannot use any of the additions used by Warner Bros. in the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz, such as Dorothy's ruby slippers.
The studio hired Mitchell Kapner to work on the sequel script months ago, a sign that Disney is very confident Oz: The Great and Powerful will be a hit. The movie stars James Franco as Oscar Diggs, a...

Michael Clarke Duncan was a big actor in every sense of the word, a former bodyguard who got a huge break at the age of 41 with a stunning performance in "The Green Mile," and turned in an eclectic range of memorable roles in action, comedy, and dramas.

Actor Michael Clarke Duncan died yesterday morning in a Los Angeles hospital. His death was confirmed by a statement from his fiancee, Omarosa Manigault. He was 54.
Duncan was a beloved actor, who typically portrayed kind-hearted or vulnerable characters despite his massive stature. He is best known for his role as John Coffey in The Green Mile, for which he earned an Oscar nomination. Despite only taking up acting in 1995, Duncan was a prolific actor, with 94 credits to his name. Those credits include Daredevil, The Whole Ten Yards, Sin City, Kung Fu Panda, and Green Lantern.
My favorite role of Duncan’s was his work in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. Normally when serious actors like Duncan are in comedies they stick out, but in Talladega Nights he has some of the funniest moments of a very funny movie. As soon as I heard of his death I instantly...

Oscar-nominated actor Michael Clarke Duncan has passed away at the age of 54, according to his fiancée Omarosa Stallworth and news reports on the wire. Duncan suffered a heart attack on July 13 and according to his publicist, he never fully recovered from it. After a number of years doing television and small movie roles, Michael Clarke Duncan first got the attention of moviegoers when he was cast in the role of inmate John Coffey in Frank Darabont's 2000 prison drama The Green Mile , giving a performance opposite Tom Hanks that would earn him an Oscar nomination at the age of 43. From there, he was paired with Bruce Willis and Matt Perry in the 1999 comedy The Whole Nine Yards , which spawned the sequel The Whole Ten Yards , but the 6' 5" Clarke Duncan found most of his...

Ray Richmond contributes to Deadline’s TV coverage. Matthew Perry’s last shot at sitcom stardom, ABC’s Mr. Sunshine in 2011, didn’t work out so well, lasting less than a season. Undaunted, he’s back again — and at the scene of his greatest success, NBC — for Go On, produced by Friends writer-producer Scott Silveri and starring Perry as a sports talk radio host and recent widower who reluctantly joins a grief counseling support group. “I gravitate toward broken characters who try to be better people”, Perry said this afternoon at TCA. He added that Mr. Sunshine, too, was about such a character but believes, “This is a much better setup”. He added of his Mr. Sunshine character, “That guy was sort of in a bad mood and no one really knew why”. When it was pointed that a lot of people in the room liked Mr. Sunshine, Perry was befuddled.

NBC is hosting a "Friends" reunion of sorts, with Matthew Perry reteaming with writer Scott Silveri for their new comedy "Go On."
"[With] 'Friends,' it was just great chemistry," Perry said, trying to explain the iconic show's success at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour on Tuesday. "It had great writing, it had great directing, it had really great acting -- a little bit of magic happened there. You never know when that’s going to happen, you just want to surround yourself with funny, talented people, which we definitely did here."
Silveri created the show and always had Perry in mind. "Writing for him back then [on 'Friends'] was a joy because we have a lot of overlap in our sensibilities," he explained. "It was always very easy to write for [Chandler], now we get to do it with different subject matter that we never could’ve done on 'Friends.'...

Though the two just starred together in Richard Linklater’s Bernie, Jack Black and Shirley MacLaine are already planning a reunion of sorts. It was announced today (via ScreenDaily) that Black and MacLaine will star in the comedy Wild Oats alongside Jacki Weaver and Alan Arkin. The caper follows two fugitives who are forced to outwit a trio of conmen and the law, with Howard Deutch (Pretty in Pink) onboard to direct from a script by Gary Kanew and Claudia Myers. The cast is impressive, but Deutch’s recent filmography (My Best Friend’s Girl, The Whole Ten Yards) isn’t exactly up to par with his earlier material. Production on Wild Oats is set to get underway in mid-July, but Black is also attached to star in Charlie Kaufman’s incredibly promising Frank or Francis. That film has a solid cast, but producers are still firming up financing before production can begin.

Clearly, Jack Black made one too many "Gulliver's Travels" or "A Big Year" -- in the last twelve months or so, the comic star (who just released a new record under his Tenacious D guise) has veered mostly away from big studio comedies to more interesting sounding indie-type projects, like Richard Linklater's recent, and very charming "Bernie," prospective Michael Winterbottom project "Bailout," and Charlie Kaufman's "Frank or Francis." And now, there's another one on his dance card that sounds pretty promising, all in all.
Screen Daily report that the actor is in talks to join Howard Deutch's "Wild Oats," which would see him reteam with his "Bernie" co-star Shirley MacLaine, as well as the great Alan Arkin and "Animal Kingdom" Oscar-nominee Jacki Weaver. The film stars MacLaine and Weaver as two best friends who leave their small Ohio town for Las Vegas after MacLaine's character accidentally receives...

The saga of Franchise Pictures, one of the biggest Hollywood blow-ups of all time, isn't quite over. On Tuesday, Warner Bros. was sued in California federal court for allegedly distributing three films -- The Whole Ten Yards, The In-Laws and Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever -- without a proper license. The claims come from a German production company that owns the copyright on the films and licensed Franchise to distribute them before that company went bankrupt. Oh, and there's a David Bergstein element here too. According to the lawsuit filed by Mhf Zweite Academy Film Gmbh, the company granted Franchise the

As reported by Deadline's Mike Fleming, Zach Braff might be the next big name to head to Oz. The actor is in negotiations for the role of Frank, the loyal but under-appreciated assistant to Oz (James Franco) in Sam Raimi's Oz: The Great and Powerful.
Since leaving "Scrubs" last year, Braff hasn't exactly been lighting up the silver screen. Instead he has been spending his time writing his first play, which opens off-Broadway in July. Meanwhile, he can also be seen starring in the drama High Cost of Living, currently playing On Demand.
As for Oz, it's described as a prequel to the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz written by Mitchell Kapner (The Whole Ten Yards) and influenced by creator L. Frank Baum's "Oz" books including some ideas of his own turning the wizard into a charlatan in Kansas who's part of a traveling circus but goes on...
