Some People Can't Tolerate Loud Music

Most of the other children in Margeret Whistler's classroom don't like Ernestine Jones. She's gawky, when they have singing, her loud voice overpowers theirs, and worst of all, she's Black.

It's one of Pat Powers' children films, and a very good one. I'm slightly familiar with the Powers comedies from four or five years before this, and they are simple, naturalistic and very funny. This one has a serious message about tolerance -- although since it depends on awkward Miss Jones being useful to the others, its notions of tolerance seem a bit limited.

It's directed by Lule Warrenton. She was a popular actress for older roles for decades, directed a few movies for Powers and was an advocate for young women in the film colony; her work led to the founding of the Hollywood Studio Club, where "extra girls" could live and not be prey to the sexual predators.
