Anime appeals to a wide variety of different demographics, but younger ones are more drawn to it. The number of adolescents and teens who watch anime is growing by the day. The constant influx of new series like Jujutsu Kaisen, Frieren, and Solo Leveling only encourages more people to get into anime and make the community grow. However, some titles make references that many younger audience members won't catch onto.
These nods to older works aren't inherently a bad thing. It's perfectly fine to reference an older anime or show that was a clear inspiration for a modern-day classic. Often, older audiences can appreciate a subtle homage when it's done well. But it's also apparent that whatever is being referenced won't resonate with young audiences.

Kadokawa is the Japanese juggernaut publishing house responsible for bringing to the public beloved series such as Oshi no Ko, Re: Zero, Sword Art Online, Mushoku Tensei, Delicious in Dungeon, and many more. Before anime became such a popular media, Kadokawa built its empire on publishing light novels and other forms of literature. Many of these popular series appeared in Dragon Magazine, which launched in 1988 and has now officially ceased publication.
Some of Kadokawa's most popular series first appeared in Dragon Magazine, including Slayers, Full Metal Panic!, and Patlabor. The monthly magazine published both light novels and manga, and it was a steady feature throughout Kadokawa's long history. Going forward, it will be replaced by a new web platform titled "Mekurimekuru".

While Dragon Magazine is ceasing publication, Kadokawa is doing better than ever.

For 37 years, Kadokawa's Dragon Magazine has provided a literary home for popular light novel series such as Full Metal Panic!, Spy Classroom, Slayers, Date A Live and countless others. However, Spring 2025 will see the release of the publication's final issue.
Per Japanese news site Oricon, Dragon Magazine recently confirmed that it will cease publication with its May 2025 issue, which will go on sale in Japan in March 2025. The magazine's sunset marks the conclusion of a work that helped facilitate the birth of many hit light novel-turned-anime IPs, including the classic harem rom-com High School Dxd, among numerous others. Dragon Magazine's editorial department released a brief statement explaining the decision: "Due to recent changes in the reading environment, we are increasingly realizing that the role that Dragon Magazine has played is no longer something than can be fulfilled by paper magazines, and this is our next challenge."

Full Metal Panic! is a classic mecha series, which many fans may be familiar with from its multiple anime adaptations over the years. Now, that long-running series is finally getting a sequel, and it'll show the original's characters as adults.
Full Metal Panic! began as a series of light novels in 1998, publishing a total of 12 books, with the series finally ending in 2010. It was adapted into several anime over that time frame, including Full Metal Panic! in 2002, the parody series Fumoffu in 2003, a proper sequel called Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid in 2005, and finally Full Metal Panic! Invisible Victory in 2018. The franchise has continued long after the original book series concluded, with various spinoff manga and light novels. Now, however, there's an official sequel starring the original series' leads, Kaname Chidori and Sosuke Sagara.
