While they’re often used interchangeably in movies, the average person probably doesn’t know the difference between a jinx, hex, and a curse. All three are distinct forms of baneful magick with varying severity, and even for those who don’t believe in magick, the concepts are pretty mainstream. A jinx is a relatively minor spell meant to cause temporary bad luck or annoy their target. A hex is a little more serious, intending to bring about more inconveniences for their target, usually to teach them a lesson. Then, there’s a curse, the worst of the three, intended to cause serious, long-lasting harm. They can destroy, or even take, someone’s life and perhaps affect their entire bloodline. So, curses can be very popular plot points in movies, especially horror movies.
Curses don’t just affect people, though, as many objects have been considered cursed throughout history, and...

There has been quite a resurgence in the genre of biblical stories in film and television. With streaming and the movie industry adapting to an evolving taste in storytelling, many studios are looking to particular genres that have been consistent hits with audiences. One area that has been pretty consistent has been biblical stories, whether it be Noah's Ark or the origins of Jesus Christ. Some favorite biblical adaptations in film and television include Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ, 1956's The Ten Commandments, The Prince of Egypt, The Nativity Story, VeggieTales, and Darren Aronofsky's Noah.
Adapting biblical stories to the small or big screen has proved an arduous endeavor, as the controversy surrounding the projects is usually inevitable. However, seeming inaccuracies aside, a few storytellers have been able to adapt certain stories and have found much success with the outcomes. For example, The Chosen has become a consistent hit on streaming,...

R-rated movies aren’t just surviving in the shadow of their PG-13 counterparts; they’re thriving, raking in massive box office numbers and smashing records left and right. Take the last decade’s chart-toppers like Joker with a staggering $1.07 billion or Deadpool 2 at $785.9 million. Deadpool & Wolverine is already leading the charge this decade, earning a jaw-dropping $1.33 billion. Then there’s Oppenheimer, proving that brainy, historical dramas can pull in $976.9 million. Combined, these ten blockbusters have earned a mind-blowing $8.97 billion globally. Yes, you read that right: billion with a capital B.
The Passion of the Christ, Logan, and Detective Chinatown 3
Actors like Ryan Reynolds dominate the list with Deadpool, Deadpool 2, and Deadpool & Wolverine. Hugh Jackman isn’t far behind, slashing through with Logan and his much-anticipated team-up with Reynolds. Meanwhile, Keanu Reeves’ The Matrix Reloaded ($741.8 million) and Jim Caviezel’s The Passion of the Christ ($612 million) remind...

Justice Department Attorney Says She Was Fired After Opposing Restoration of Mel Gibson’s Gun Rights
Elizabeth G. Oyer, the former pardon attorney at the US Justice Department, was fired on Friday (March 7th) along with several other high-ranking officials. In an interview with The New York Times, she said the dismissal took place one day after she pushed back against restoring Mel Gibson’s gun rights.
Gibson, who lost his gun rights due to a 2011 misdemeanor domestic violence conviction, was appointed by President Trump as a special ambassador to the “great but very troubled place” Hollywood in January. According to Oyer, Gibson’s lawyer wrote a letter shortly afterward to senior Justice Department officials James R. McHenry III and Emil Bove III, requesting the actor’s gun rights be restored
Fast forward to two weeks ago, when Oyer was put in a group to restore gun rights to people convicted of crimes in what’s described as an unusual assignment for the pardon attorney’s office.

Most filmgoers recognize big cities like Miami, Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles in their favorite motion pictures. Sure enough, those locals provide the backdrop to several classic pictures from Michael Bay's "Bad Boys" to "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," "King Kong" and Michael Mann's "Heat." However, another prominent locale exists in the film world, a place you've likely seen more often than not, even if it didn't immediately stand out. We're talking, of course, about the state of Maine.
Uniquely, many stories take place in the Pine Tree State. Its lush scenery and coastal views make for stunning cinematography, while the colder elements provide the necessary bleakness for heavier dramas. Here, family friendly fare like "Casper" and "Pete's Dragon" took flight, while more intense films such as the alligator thriller "Lake Placid" and the Stephen King horror tale "Pet Sematary" found unique ways to scare the bejesus out of audiences.

Mel Gibson, the actor who played "Mad Max" Rockatansky in the first entries of the franchise created by George Miller, has revealed which of the films in the dystopian universe is his favorite. Although Gibson has recently shown his power to divide, it's fair to say that this time we agree with him.
Per the report by Screen Rant, Gibson recently appeared at MegaCon Orlando, where he spoke about his run in the Mad Max franchise from 1979 to 1985. Gibson made a total of three Mad Max films: 1979's Mad Max, 1981's The Road Warrior, and 1985's Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. During a panel, the actor/director behind classics like Braveheart and the Lethal Weapon franchise revealed that his favorite Mad Max movie was the second entry, The Road Warrior:

Even after nearly five decades in the entertainment industry, Mel Gibson still dreams of working with new talent.
At 69, the actor and director of Flight Risk recently discussed his career and personal experiences during a panel at MegaCon, held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, on February 7.
Gibson Discusses The Talent He Would Love To Work With
During the panel, moderator Victor Dandridge asked Gibson if there was an emerging actor he hadn’t collaborated with but would like to. Gibson responded with enthusiasm, highlighting the abundance of gifted young performers today.
He remarked, “There’s so many young, talented people now. Some of these guys are really good, too. So gifted — it’s another level. … They took it a step further.”
Gibson specifically praised Shia Labeouf, saying, “He can be kind of a tricky customer, but I love this kid Shia Labeouf. There’s something so truthful about what he does,...

Mel Gibson’s 1995 epic Braveheart is often praised for its sweeping and brutal battle scenes, and Gibson’s portrayal of Scottish freedom fighter William Wallace. However it was also the movie that saw Gibson believe that he was about to meet his maker in order to deliver the most realistic movie possible, all thanks to a stunt involving a horse.
By the mid-1990s, Gibson was already an established Hollywood star, but Braveheart marked a significant leap from a regular action hero to a respected director as well as actor. Filming large-scale battle sequences required plenty of planning, especially when the stunt work involved many live horses being used on set.
During a chaotic battle sequence, Gibson performed one stunt that required him to fall off his horse, but in the moment, he almost ended up falling under the beast and had to be saved by his stunt double. As...

Oscar-winning actor and director Mel Gibson has revealed that he was originally offered the lead role in Ridley Scott’s historical epic Gladiator, but ultimately had to turn it down due to a scheduling conflict. The role, of course, eventually went to Russell Crowe, who won Best Actor at the Academy Awards for it. At the time the movie was in pre-production, Gibson was best known for his breakout role in the Mad Max franchise and later as the star of the Lethal Weapon series, before he became known for directing, winning the Best Director award for his historical epicBraveheart. Gibson would also go on to direct acclaimed movies like The Passion of the Christ, Hacksaw Ridge, but also Flight Risk. However, he could have added another Oscar to his shelf before a packed calendar got in the way.

Many actors passed on iconic roles — whether due to scheduling, fear of typecasting, or not having enough confidence in the material. Years later, Mel Gibson reflected on turning down some big roles.
The actor starred in many iconic roles, including 1979's Mad Max, 1987's Lethal Weapon, and 1995's Braveheart. He has also stepped behind the camera as a director and directed the critically and commercially successful The Passion of the Christ, among other projects. However, at the 2025 Megacon Orlando, the actor addressed passing on James Bond and Gladiator roles, per People.

Mel Gibson's position in Hollywood is precarious to say the least, but that has not stopped his 2022 action thriller Hot Seat from jumping into the Freevee Top 10 after it was added to the platform earlier this month. Directed by James Cullen Bressack and starring Gibson alongside Kevin Dillon, the film was met with harsh reviews upon release, which makes its new-found success on streaming unexpected…but at the same time completely on trend for free streaming releases.
Hot Seat is a high-stakes hostage thriller, which centers on It expert Orlando Friar (Dillon) who becomes an unwitting pawn in a dangerous cyber-heist. Forced to hack into government servers while trapped in a booby-trapped office chair rigged to explode (of course he is), Friar must race against the clock to outsmart the anonymous mastermind holding his life—and the city—hostage. The success of Gladiator II last year came as no surprise, as fans had been waiting for more than two decades for a sequel to Ridley Scott's original epic, which, according to Mel Gibson, could have looked a lot different. Starring Russell Crowe, the historical action saga was released in 2000 to rave reviews, and would go on to earn more than $460 million at the box office. However, had Gibson not already been committed to another film, it would have been him in the role of Maximus Decimus Meridius, and not Crowe.

Passion Of The Christ 2 is set to start filming shortly, with Jim Caviezel set to reprise the role of Jesus Christ.
US special envoy to Hollywood and Bird On A Wire star Mel Gibson has talked for a long, long time about making a sequel to 2004’s The Passion Of The Christ, a film that cost around $30m to make and which took around $612m at the box office alone. Gibson has been working on the screenplay for around a decade, along with Braveheart scribe Randall Wallace, and reports of the film going before cameras go back to biblical times. Or thereabouts.
Jim Caviezel, the film’s star confirmed back in 2020 that the film was still in active development and there’s been plenty of times since that we’ve heard reports which suggested that the project was on the (Christmas?) eve of production. However, cameras still haven’t captured...

In what could be yet another record for a major theatrical-to-digital shortened window of release, there's a rumor that Mark Wahlberg's Flight Riskcould be heading to digital and VOD just a few weeks after its theatrical debut. The movie opened in theaters on Jan. 24, 2025, and earned $11.5 million on its opening weekend in North America. While the audience liked it enough to give it a 63% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, critics savaged it with a 29% rotten rating. Now, there's a report from When to Stream claiming it'll be on VOD and digital on Valentine's Day, just three weeks after its debut.
On paper, Flight Risk would appear to be a potential hit: It's directed by Mel Gibson (Braveheart), has a pretty good cast, and an intriguing plot and setting. Wahlberg plays a pilot named Daryl helping transport a witness (Grace), who is set to testify against his crime boss, for a U.

Mel Gibson may be best known as Braveheart, or the filmmaker behind The Passion of the Christ, but there was a time in which he did a romantic comedy alongside Helen Hunt called What Women Want, directed by romcom genius Nancy Meyers. The film will be hitting a new streamer, Paramount+, on February 1. The movie consists of Gibson, a womanizer by all stereotypes, being electrocuted in an accident, and rather than dying, he now has an odd ability… to hear the thoughts of women, and only women. The 2000 film, sporting an identical Critic's and Audience Score of 54% on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. Other cast members joining Hunt and Gibson include Marisa Tomei, Judy Greer, and Sarah Paulson.

Did Jim Caviezel refuse to have a steamy scene with Jennifer Lopez? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Jennifer Lopez, celebrated for her luscious curves, has long been a star known for her undeniable appeal. With Hollywood’s propensity to record superfluous number of steamy scenes — featuring young, attractive leads in passionate R-rated romances — Lopez expected nothing out of the ordinary when she agreed to share the screen with Jim Caviezel in Angel Eyes.
While Caviezel brought his own rugged charm to complement the 2001 romance’s sensual intensity, the Frequency actor wasn’t keen on obliging the usual demands of going bare, even going as far as denying fans the opportunity to see Lopez bare it all — a move that many have yet to forgive him for.
Caviezel refused to go fully bare for their love scene and even requested that Lopez keep her figure clothed. “Look, put a top on her,” Caviezel told the director.

The tale of David vs. Goliath is one of the most popular and inspiring stories in anthropological history (originating in the Christian Bible), but you've never seen it told like this. The ultimate underdog story should need little introduction, as David, a small shepherd from the Valley of Elah, Israel, took down the mighty, bronze-armor adorned giant, using nothing but a slingshot — spoiler alert. How Much Did Mel Gibson’s 2009 Divorce Cost Him? (Photo Credit – Facebook)
In 2009, Mel Gibson’s 28-year marriage ended dramatically with a billion-dollar divorce, redefining Hollywood’s priciest breakups. As celebrity divorce lawyer Raoul Felder said, “It’s a billion-dollar divorce!” With no prenuptial agreement in sight, Robyn Moore was entitled to half of Gibson’s massive fortune. His net worth was around $1B at the time, largely thanks to his blockbuster hit The Passion of the Christ, which raked in $600M alone.
The math wasn’t hard. According to Entertainment Weekly, Robyn walked away with an astounding $500M, making this split the costliest celebrity divorce ever. For context, Michael Jordan’s 2006 divorce cost him $168M. Steven Spielberg gave $100M in 1989, and Paul McCartney’s stuff with Heather Mills in 2008 tallied up to $48.6M. Gibson’s split? It made those numbers look quaint.
The financial hit wasn’t Gibson’s only problem.

It’s good for theaters when a smaller-budget non-franchise film opens to $12 million, as Mel Gibson’s “Flight Risk” (Lionsgate) did this weekend. It’s a problem when that’s enough to make it the weekend’s top gross.
This was also the post-Oscar nominations week, although the delay in their announcement disrupted distributor strategies to capitalize on them. Two — “A Complete Unknown” (Searchlight) and “The Brutalist” (A24), the latter expanding to 1,118 theaters — placed in the top 10.
Among limited runs, “Liza: A Truly Terrific Absolutely True Story” (Zeitgeist/Kino) with $19,000 at Manhattan’s IFC Center had the best initial showing for a platformed documentary in some time. Liza Minnelli’s fans and more turned out for what could be a niche success.

Despite poor reviews (including from our own Tyler Nichols), Mel Gibson’s Flight Risk, starring an atypically evil Mark Wahlberg, is set to top the box office this weekend. It earned $4.4 million on Friday, with Variety estimating that it’s on track for an $11 million weekend. That’s actually significantly less than the $14 million we predicted. Still, according to a press release from Lionsgate, “this is a strong result for the modestly budgeted film which is on its way to becoming a significant money maker for the studio.”
However, the movie’s box office momentum could decline precipitously today, given that it’s been slammed with an atrocious C CinemaScore grade. This is unusual for Gibson, whose films as a director have been crowdpleasers. Perhaps the thriller genre is an odd fit for a director who seems much more comfortable directing epics like Braveheart, Hacksaw Ridge, Apocalypto, and The Passion of the Christ.

"Flight Risk" is a modest affair. It sports a downright frugal budget of $25 million, and is set almost entirely on board a small prop plane. There are only three on-screen actors for the bulk of the movie's mercifully brisk 91-minute runtime, and the concept is easy to get one's head around. In execution, it feels like a neophyte director's confident first turn. Perhaps shabby, but well-meaning, and only occasionally straining against its obviously limited means.
Only this isn't a first-time director's film. This is a film by Mel Gibson, the once-respected Oscar darling and hitmaker, now ostracized for his many offensive public outbursts and unhealthy personal viewpoints. Gibson, as a director, has overseen multiple weighty, violent historical pictures, many of them impressively staged and visually astounding. After the scope of Braveheart, The Passion Of The Christ, Apocalypto and Hacksaw Ridge, Mel Gibson is working on a smaller canvas for his sixth directorial feature. The kind of action thriller Hollywood is supposed not to make anymore, Flight Risk is a chamber piece, confined almost entirely to a single location — a rickety plane described as a “kite with seat belts”. It may not be particularly novel but it is well made, well performed by a cast who understand the assignment, and has enough twists, turns and tweaks to formula to keep it fresh. It also features the scary sight and sound of Mark Wahlberg warbling his way through New Order’s ‘Blue Monday’. Be warned.

What’s Good: The initial premise is fabulous and gives legs to the film the entire runtime.
What’s Bad: The film never fulfills the promises made by the setup, which creates a frustrating scenario that brings the film down.
Loo Break: The film allows for several loo breaks, as many of the characters’ choices don’t make much sense, so you won’t miss any pivotal moments.
Watch or Not?: Sadly, this film is a pass unless you’re a huge Mark Wahlberg fan.

Nine years after the biopic Hacksaw Ridge (2016), starring Andrew Garfield as a Seventh-Day Adventist and pacifist who's called to the battlefield, Mel Gibson returns to the director's chair with American Hairlines, I mean, Flight Risk. The film stars Mark Wahlberg as Daryl Booth, a hitman marked by male pattern baldness and a penchant for torture. Joining the gleeful sadist on this bumpy ride, we have Michelle Dockery portraying a beleaguered Deputy U.S. Marshal and Topher Grace as mob accountant-turned-witness. It's a single-location three-hander with a hook, and it couldn't be less of a piece with the rest of Gibson's directorial efforts. His previous credits include the multi-award-winning Braveheart (1995), in which he also starred, the controversial mega-hit The Passion of the Christ (2004), and the controversial yet slightly-less-successful-than-Passion-though-still-a-hit Apocalypto (2006). If one thing is resoundingly clear looking at Gibson's body of work, it's that he favors the pictures with an epic heft.

The most pressing issue in the disappointingly tame thriller Flight Risk is not whether a troubled U.S. Deputy Marshal will successfully deliver her fugitive charge into the hands of authorities or whether the hit man hired to stop them will get his just desserts. The real issue is why Mel Gibson, who earned a Best Director Oscar for Braveheart and has emotionally devastated audiences with worldwide hits like The Passion of the Christ, would want his first directing effort since 2016’s Hacksaw Ridge to be a thriller with such low levels of urgency and suspense.
One can only assume that Gibson is using Flight Risk, shot almost entirely within the confines of a tiny Cessna Grand Caravan airplane, to shake the rust off before tackling The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection. Or perhaps this controversy magnet is gauging our desire to ignore his recent string of forgettable (if you...

Season 5 of The Chosen continues the biblical account of Jesus Christ himself, culminating in the events of the Last Supper and his eventual crucifixion. A moment in history that continues to permeate changing centuries; no story is more timeless than the life of Jesus. The trial and tribulations, and the hope he beacons, is a narrative that unites people all over the world, regardless of race, language, or even religion. In the era of Hollywood and showbiz, many have adapted his narrative for the masses, prompting cinematic hits like Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ and even the most recent Netflix flick Mary - the latter following the mother of Jesus Christ.

The star who nearly beat Russell Crowe to the lead role in Gladiator reveals how much of a fan he is of the Oscar-winning historical epic. Acclaimed actor Mel Gibson shares why he looks to the film for inspiration and his favorite shot from the sword-and-sandal classic, which features Crowe.
During an interview on The Joe Rogan Experience, Gibson praised Gladiator and its director, Ridley Scott, specifically hailing one "profound" shot from the movie that inspired his filmmaking approach. Gibson referenced the opening Gladiator scene, where Crowe's central protagonist, Maximus Decimus Meridius, runs his hands over wheat in a field. "I always like to reference just a shot, it’s in a Scott movie, and you don’t know why it works or why it’s effective on some level, but it’s kind of a profound, effective shot. Sylvester Stallone, Mel Gibson, and Jon Voight have been named Hollywood ambassadors by the United States President-elect Donald Trump, seemingly without them knowing. Stallone, Gibson, and Voight have had major roles throughout their time as actors and filmmakers, bringing to life plenty of classic movies while continuing to work in their craft to this day. This includes Stallone's Tulsa King season 3 that's in development, Gibson's upcoming The Passion of the Christ sequel, and Voight's recent role as Viktor Petrovich in the biopic Regan.
Now, Variety reports that Stallone, Gibson, and Voight have been named "Special Ambassadors" to Hollywood by Trump via his social media platform Truth Social. Getting a film off the ground is not an easy job, and each year, there are numerous films that end up going down the bin before they can even be considered. Given the high-stakes world of Hollywood, it is a gamble to be part of films and projects that one has no idea about how it would fare with the audience.

Mark Wahlberg too had a similar experience with one of his passion projects, where he had to take a giant leap of faith to invest millions of his own money in a film that was later torn to shreds by the film critics. And it was Mel Gibson, his co-star, who encouraged him to do so, which ultimately did turn out to be a good thing.

No doubt Ridley Scott has given us some of the most memorable images in cinema history. We think of films like Alien, Blade Runner, The Duellists, and so many more. One that can’t possibly be left off is 2000’s Gladiator, shot by John Mathieson in their first of many pairings. And it’s actually that film that Mel Gibson comes back to as the one that left the greatest impact on his own style.
Appearing on The Joe Rogan Experience (via IndieWire), Mel Gibson did the best he could in explaining why Gladiator is a reference point for him. “I always like to reference just a shot, it’s in a Scott movie and you don’t know why it works or why it’s effective on some level, but it’s kind of a profound, effective shot. We all know that Mel Gibson is a deeply religious man, among other perhaps less savory things. His “The Passion of the Christ” is still one of the biggest R-rated films of all time. And he’s apparently preparing to begin work on “The Resurrection of Christ” sometime next year. But there was one religious film that he was offered and turned down, even though it was going to be directed by one of the best filmmakers around.

Mel Gibson is an extremely accomplished actor, but has also directed many critically-acclaimed movies over the course of his career. Some of Gibson's best movies include Braveheart, The Passion of the Christ, Apocalypto, and Hacksaw Ridge. Through these movies and several more, Gibson has proven that he is a talented filmmaker. However, Gibson has claimed that he always likes to reference a shot included in a movie that was made by another iconic director, Ridley Scott.
Ridley Scott's best movies include Alien, Blade Runner, Kingdom of Heaven, and American Gangster. However, Gibson admitted that he always references a specific shot from Scott's 2000 blockbuster Gladiator. It makes sense that Gibson looks towards Gladiator for inspiration, as it is one of the highest-rated films of Scott's career and has remained culturally relevant for years. Mel Gibson is not the only one who is interested in bringing Jesus Christ's story back to theaters. VFX expert Seong-ho Jang has gathered a star-studded cast for his directorial debut, The King of Kings, which follows Jesus' story in an animated film.

Mel Gibson is finally making a sequel to The Passion of the Christ, and just trust us, it’s going to be anything but dull. The follow-up to the 2004 blockbuster, officially titled The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection, isn’t just about Jesus’ return.
A scene from The Passion of the Christ (Credits: 20th Century Studios)
It’s taking a plunge into hell, fallen angels, and some seriously ambitious storytelling. Oh, and Gibson himself called it an “acid trip.” The first movie was a cultural phenomenon, especially in the U.S., where it became a hit with evangelical audiences.
It also raked in over $600 million globally, making it one of the most successful religious films ever. But it didn’t come without controversy—accusations of antisemitism and criticism of its violent depiction of Jesus’ final hours stirred a lot of debate.
Now, nearly 20 years later, Gibson is back to continue the story.

Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ 2 is confirmed, but the sequel looks to be a lot more controversial. In 2004, The Passion of the Christ took the world by storm with particular appeal to American evangelicals, and it was successful in many international markets as well. Principally inspired by the Gospel of John, The Passion of the Christ also incorporated a number of Catholic traditions and even the visions of Anne Catherine Emmerich (1774-1824). Its release became particularly controversial due to charges of antisemitism — not helped by Gibson's own personal controversies.
Since 2004, Gibson has openly talked about the possibility of making a sequel that continues the narrative. The Passion of the Christ was undeniably one of the most important Biblical epics ever made by Hollywood, so it's not really a surprise to see Gibson finally attempt to turn this into something of a loose franchise — especially at...

Mel Gibson, the Hollywood legend behind films like Braveheart, Apocalypto, and Hacksaw Ridge, is still on board to bring a very controversial project to life. Thankfully, it is not an epic about his views on abortion and questionable medicine, but the sequel to his 2004 biblical drama The Passion of the Christ, which has a new title: The Resurrection of the Christ.
Per Variety, Gibson appeared on Joe Rogan's podcast, where the actor-turned-director revealed he still has plans to make a sequel to the film that depicts Jesus' last hours before being crucified. According to Gibson, the project may be closer to fruition than ever, as he intends to start production in 2026 from a script written by his brother, Academy Award-nominee Randall Wallace.
I'm hoping next year sometime. There's a lot required because it's an acid trip. I've never read anything like it.

Mel Gibson has confirmed that a script for the sequel to The Passion of the Christ, titled The Resurrection of the Christ, has been completed. He also corroborated reports of Jim Caviezel returning to play Jesus and revealed he would use de-aging techniques to make up for the two decades since the original.
While appearing on the latest episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Gibson said he was hoping to begin shooting the film next year, explaining they would need preparation time to pull off the “acid trip” of a script, which he wrote with his brother and screenwriter Randall Wallace over seven years.
“I think in order to really tell the story properly you have to start with the fall of the angels, which [means] you’re in another place, you’re in another realm,” Gibson said. “You need to go to Hell. You need to go to Sheol.”

Mel Gibson says that he is going to cast a de-aged Jim Caviezel in his long-planned sequel to The Passion of the Christ, and that the film will be an “acid trip”.
Gibson was speaking on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, and when asked who “the next Jesus” was going be, Gibson replied that he was aiming to use Caviezel, who had played the lead role in the first film in 2004, in a story about Jesus’ resurrection. Asked how he would handle the 20-year time gap for a story that is supposed to take place three days after the events depicted in Passion of the Christ, Gibson said he would use de-ageing techniques that are “so good now”.
