OK, I heard about DD Havana Nights for months.. couldn't wait to go see it in the theater. Then I saw a preview and could tell right off the bat that it was going to be a lot different and possibly a cheap remake of the original. I finally rented it a few weeks after it came out on video and wasn't too pleased. The lead female in the movie did an average job playing the unhappy rich girl. I wouldn't say it was as impressionable as Jennifer Grey in the original. Her body didn't seem to match up with her co-stars and they just didn't have the same chemistry as the original dirty dancers. I felt the storyline was weak, had too many holes and ended abruptly. The music didn't add up. They were playing R&B hip hop type music in the 1950s!! The cameo by Patrick Swayze wasn't very well thought out.. I actually thought he was edited in because he was wearing the same tattered red shirt and black pants from the original!! He never said his name and had a very small, useless part. The directors could have written him into the storyline better and it might have saved the movie. If you haven't seen the first or fall in love with the first Dirty Dancing then you might enjoy this movie. The actors are attractive, there are a few "lusty" scenes, the music and dancing is catchy but my heart is with the first. Should have called this movie simply, Havana Nights.
