    hmmmm....

An absolute steaming pile of cow dung. It's mind-blowing to me that this film was even made. Hip-Hop and old westerns just don't seem to mix. What target audience were these people thinking of when planning this trainwreck.

Not only is the concept and plot a joke, but the acting is atrocious and the fact that some decent actors were even in this nightmare of a film makes their entire careers a laughing stock. The chick from clueless should never be forgiven and she is stripped of any remaining dignity she had. After reading the first ten pages of dialogue she should have been asking which one of her friends was playing this sick joke. After some research, I actually found a list of some other actors who passed on this film: Jada Pinkett-Smith, Denzel Washington, Brandy, Monique, Kim Kardasian, Jenna Jameson, Oprah, and finally Marge Simpson.

Simply put, I would rather stare at a blank TV than watch this movie again.

Possibly the poorest directed movie I've seen

Hmm, Hip Hop music to a period western. Modern phrases like "cool" and too many others to keep track of. "The sistahs are in tha house"!?French manicured nails on hard riding girls. Microphone packs CLEARLY visible on Li'l Kim's back. I just can't go on with the litany of errors made by the director and editors.

The acting isn't as bad as I've ever seen. The women did well enough with a poor script.

It was weird hearing Louis Mandylor speaking in his native accent.

The girls are beautiful. The costumes fabulous albeit completely incorrect. I just can't believe they would dumb down what could have been a great story. I would feel offended to believe that this movie was loaded with such trappings that it would play well in the inner city.

    Whoa whoa whoa-hold up

Alright, I got passed the horrible acting. I got passed the fact that Lil Kim was blasting some cannons and her arms or hands weren't moving, I got passed the weaves, I got passed the colored contacts.

This is what killed it for me: In the scene where the four roses were sitting at the table arguing. Lisa-Raye and Monica Calhoun stand up and, and then Lil Kim gets up to break up any hostilities by saying, "Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, Hold up. Let's CHILL OUT here for a HOT SECOND." I am a fan of the western movie genre, and I never heard anyone talk slang like this in any of Clint Eastwood's movies.

If anyone thinks this movie deserves over a 1 rating, please tell me another movie that's worse than Gang of Roses.

    I'm through.

destined to be a classic movie turkey

'Gang of Roses' is the kind of boneheaded travesty that would have given the boys over at 'Mystery Science Theatre 3000' something really delicious to sink their teeth into. How we would have howled at the skewering quips and devastating one-liners they would have come up with as they ripped this masterpiece of idiocy to shreds. Alas, as they are no longer around to lighten the load in cases such as this one, we are left to suffer through 'Gang of Roses' entirely on our own. The movie has been tagged as the first 'hip-hop Western,' which means, apparently, that it features a largely African-American cast in full Western regalia, backed up by modern dance tunes playing on the soundtrack. Ostensibly set on the 1890's frontier, the film tells the story of a band of former female bank robbers - four black and one Chinese - who come out of retirement to avenge the death of a sister of one of them at the hands of a roving band of killers.

Although admirable in theory, the idea of a virtually all-black Western makes about as much sense as an all-white version of 'A Raisin in the Sun' or 'The Color Purple.' But, even apart from that, the film is so badly written, directed and acted that the whole thing begins to play like one long bad joke, like a distended Saturday Night Live sketch or Amateur Night at the Bijou. I've seen junior high class projects that were more professional and cinematic ally accomplished than this embarrassing mess. Completely at a loss as to how to play this material, the filmmakers settle for lame brained anachronisms, with lines like 'Why you gotta be all that?' serving as the hallmark of the movie's attempts at authenticity.

I'm sure 'Gang of Roses' will eventually find its way into the Hall of Fame for unspeakably terrible movies, for it is a true classic of cinematic badness. All I want to know is where the MST3K dudes are when we really need them.

    Stupid, Stupid, Stupid!!!!

I have to honestly say that this was probably the worst film that I have ever seen in my entire life. I really don't know what was on the producer's, director's, or writer's minds while this piece of garbage was being created.

The setting centers on five gunslinging, outlaw women (four black, one Asian) in the Old West. This fatuous movie instantly loses all credibility on viewing because of, in addition to lousy acting and a lame story line, its gross historically inaccurate nature. Who ever heard of black outlaw women in the Old West? Did black women really wear hair weaves and extensions during the 1800s? Were idioms like, "get with him" and 'Why you gotta be all that?" used 150 years ago? Yeah, I know it's Hollywood and films are not 100% realistic, but COME ON!

I find it interesting, as well as completely understandable, that every IMDb-user comment pertaining to this movie contends that it is terrible. On the basis of Gang of Roses and Civil Brand, movies that are throwbacks to the Blackexpioltation era, it looks as if Lisa Raye is the Pam Grier of the new millennium.
