The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise has given Jim Carrey the best Rotten Tomatoes streak of his entire career. Though Jim Carrey is most known for his 1900s hits, which include Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, Liar Liar, and The Truman Show, his practice stood strong as far as the late-2000s before hitting a rough patch of roles that lasted over 10 years. With Dr. Robotnik, the actor returned to his signature physical and cartoonish comedy, proving he’s still got that charm and talent that won people’s hearts so long ago.
The actor’s commitment to the franchise has been made evident time and time again, as Jim Carrey has repeatedly broken career rules for Sonic the Hedgehog so that he can come back to reprise his now iconic role. Considered one of the movies that defined Jim Carrey’s career, Sonic the Hedgehog and its sequels continue...

Jim Carrey's divisive Christmas movie has become a streaming hit 24 years after its original release. The comedic actor rose to stardom during the 1990s with a series of box office hits, starting with Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber (all released in 1994), followed by Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls and Batman Forever (both in 1995). These hits made Carrey one of the highest-paid comedic actors, starting with the slightly darker comedy, The Cable Guy, in 1996 and Liar Liar in 1997.
Carrey's success as a leading comedic actor continued well into the 2000s, starting with How the Grinch Stole Christmas in 2000, which became the second highest-grossing Christmas movie of all time, and continued with Bruce Almighty, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, and Yes Man in the following years. In 2009, Carrey played multiple characters in the 3D animated adaptation of the classic Charles Dickens story, A Christmas Carol,...

Jim Carrey is set to play 2 different Robotnik characters in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and his role in another movie released in 2004 proves he's more than up for it. The third movie in the Sonic franchise sees Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles facing off against a new foe, Shadow the Hedgehog, who vows to get revenge on humanity. Their attempts to stop Shadow are thwarted by the return of Doctor Robotnik and his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik. Sonic 3's trailer shows Shadow's dark origins and sees Carrey take on the dual roles of both Robotniks.
Although he initially considered retirement in 2022, Jim Carrey ultimately decided to return for Sonic 3 and reprise his role as Doctor Robotnik. Robotnik's return in Sonic 3 is a career first for Carrey, as it is the first time that he has ever played the same character three times in different movies. As Carrey usually prefers to avoid working in sequels,...

The Survivor 49 cast is under construction and host Jeff Probst has revealed some interesting (very early) information about the casting process.
Jeff has previously stated that a well-known celebrity applied to be on the Survivor 49 cast. Jeff added that the celebrity was going through the same process as regular applicants.
“We have somebody applying for 49 who is very accomplished… known around the world,” Jeff teased during his On Fire podcast.
“They too are going through the same casting process, the same way every other player did, because this is everything,” Jeff added.
Survivor 49 and Survivor 50 will be filmed during the spring and summer of 2025. So, those episodes are a long way from debuting on CBS.
While Survivor 50 will get the most attention due to the milestone, having a celebrity on Survivor 49 could be lots of fun.

Since Lost ended almost fifteen years ago, I’ve been searching for a series that gives me the same sense of “what the f*** is going on.” That show finally arrived with From, a sci-fi horror series that unravels the mystery of a nightmarish town that traps all those who enter. There really is no other actor quite like Jim Carrey. For more than 30 years, the man has graced the screen with his ability to incite mass amounts of laughter from audiences with comedies like Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Yes Man. However, he has also proven his ability to move them emotionally with more dramatic performances in films like Man on the Moon and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. With all the successful hits he's had throughout his career, some of them were forced to abandon plans for follow-ups, as Carrey made his lack of interest in making sequels quite clear. That Memoir of a Snail is a catalog of bleakly unfortunate events shouldn’t come as a surprise to those who’ve seen Adam Elliot’s previous feature, Mary and Max, and his Oscar-winning short Harvie Krumpet before it. This stop-motion animated film—part seven of a “trilogy of trilogies”—opens with Grace Pudel witnessing the last gasp of an elderly pal, Pinky (Jacki Weaver). As she goes to scatter Pinky’s ashes in the garden, Grace narrates her life in a shy whisper to a pet snail, sparing no tragic detail.
Grace’s mother died in childbirth, and her alcoholic father was left paralyzed from a traffic accident. She loves her twin brother, Gilbert, a budding pyromaniac who defends her from school bullies, but even this relationship doesn’t last, as they’re separated and shipped off to foster homes at separate ends of Australia once their father passes.

According to Barry Sonnenfeld's new memoir, "Best Possible Place, Worst Possible Time," the director, cinematographer, and producer once convinced Will Smith to sign onto the Muhammad Ali biopic "Ali," the movie that earned the actor his first Oscar nomination -- only for Sonnenfeld to have the opportunity to direct the film pulled out from under him in the wake of an infamous flop.
You may know Sonnenfeld's work from stylistically singular TV shows like "Pushing Daisies," "A Series of Unfortunate Events," and the musical comedy series "Schmigadoon!" You might also know him as the director of zeitgeisty family films including two "The Addams Family" features and three "Men in Black" movies. Unfortunately for Sonnenfeld, though, for a time Hollywood knew him best as the director of one of the worst cinematic misfires of the '90s: the Smith-led neo-Western "Wild Wild West.

What are some of the movies that come to mind if somebody mentions the word “siblings”? To be specific, movies with plots that hinge on the sibling dynamic instead of just having siblings in it. If you pick from the crime drama genre, there are Deewar, A Better Tomorrow, and Fiza. If you move towards the action genre, there’s Main Hoon Na, Karan Arjun, and Warrior. If you look at horror films, you’ll get Crimson Peak, Evil Dead Rise, and Nope. If fantasy is your thing, then there’s The Chronicles of Narnia franchise, the Spy Kids franchise, and Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events. If you are wondering about step siblings, then you have Cruel Intentions and Step Brothers. And if you want to go into the realm of taboo, you can try out Close My Eyes. The popular 2005 police procedural series "Bones" is full of murder, gore, desiccated corpses, and ... bones. Most episodes begin with the two main characters, "Bones" Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz), coming across a corpse, often discovered in an unusual or disturbing death pose. The two agents, backed up by a team of passionate pathologists, will then reverse-engineer the circumstances of the corpse's death and determine the depth of foul play involved. There was typically a great deal of foul play involved.
Like other violent shows about death, murder, and corpses, "Bones" was ideal comfort viewing. Despite all the blood, violence, and misery, "Bones" often skewed tonally light, usually involving eccentric side characters and flippant gallows quips. Also, Bones and Brennan typically solved the mysteries of the rotten cadavers, displaying a police investigative system that worked as perfectly as it was designed to.

Tim Burton is back. The famous filmmaker, artist and guy who showed the world that not owning a comb isn’t a dealbreaker for Monica Bellucci technically never left, but now he’s made a movie that people actually want to see for the first time in a long while.
In addition to directing the highly-anticipated sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Burton just received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And it’s well-deserved, considering his long career, which found him churning out modern classics, followed by some okay stuff, and eventually, a whole bunch of joyless CGI-filled remakes featuring Johnny Depp in increasingly goofy wigs.
Burton’s influence over the world of film has been so great, there are a number of movies with serious Tim Burton vibes that were in no way directed by Tim Burton. Some of the most Burton-y non-Burton projects include…

Actor and producer Allison Williams has been gracing our screens for nearly two decades. The 35-year-old star made her acting debut in the 2004 NBC drama series "American Dreams," but her acting career didn't fully take off until she landed the role of Marnie Michaels in Lena Dunham's HBO series "Girls," which ran for six seasons from 2012 to 2017. After "Girls," Williams began acting in films, and in 2017, she portrayed the manipulative Rose Armitage in Jordan Peele's Oscar-winning film "Get Out." Following the success of "Get Out," Williams has starred in Netflix's "A Series of Unfortunate Events" and "M3GAN," among other notable works. M3GAN’s cast must contend with a killer doll, and their characters have to watch their backs at every turn. Directed by Gerard Johnstone from a screenplay by Akela Cooper, M3GAN is one of the first major movie releases of 2023, and it delivers what is expected for audiences’ entertainment.
M3GAN establishes its leading lady as someone to watch in the horror genre. The film, which has comedic moments despite it being a horror, brings together a strong cast to tell its story. Led by Allison Williams, who previously starred in one of Jordan Peele’s hit horror movies, M3GAN assembles a cast of characters who must go toe-to-toe with an AI doll that begins to take on a life of her own. The cast is small, but memorable, with each actor giving a performance that aids the overall narrative.

This year has seen many acclaimed auteurs add a new movie to their already impressive résumé, from Sam Raimi to Jordan Peele to Robert Eggers to Taika Waititi to Ti West to the Daniels. But not every filmmaker gets to round out their oeuvre with a few directorial efforts.
Some directors, from Charles Laughton to Herk Harvey, have only taken the helm of one movie in their careers. Actors Arnold Schwarzenegger and Eddie Murphy each tried their hand at directing once, as did playwright Tom Stoppard.
Arnold Schwarzenegger – Christmas In Connecticut (1992)
Arnold Schwarzenegger has played a wide variety of action heroes, from commandos to barbarians to reprogrammed killer cyborgs. Unlike fellow A-list action movie legend Sylvester Stallone, Schwarzenegger never directed any of his explosive starring vehicles.
But he did direct one movie back in 1992: a made-for-television remake of the holiday-themed romantic comedy Christmas in Connecticut, which was poorly received by critics.

Alright, high-five: Patrick Warburton made a surprise guest appearance on “The Bachelorette” as contestant Zach Shallcross’ real-life uncle.
The actor, known for portraying Elaine’s (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) quirky boyfriend Puddy on “Seinfeld,” was first seen in a promo for Monday night’s episode, which saw star Rachel Recchia join the final four (including Shallcross) for hometown dates. In the clip, Warburton says, “I just feel sorry for those other fellas” — in his signature deep drawl that he lent to Kronk in “The Emperor’s New Groove.”
As the video made the rounds on social media, Warburton cheekily tweeted, “I’m being asked ‘why are you on The Batchelorette ?’ [sic] It’s my favorite show? I’m addicted..? I have a crush on that Zach Shallcross fellow? Or…all of the above? Or…Zach is my nephew? Or…all of the above?”

Zach Shallcross is related to someone famous. Pic credit: ABC
On last night’s episode of The Bachelorette, fans had to do a double-take during Zach Shallcross’ hometown visit.
As Rachel Recchia went to Zach’s home to meet his family, viewers and Rachel alike were surprised by one of the family members.
This was because Zach’s uncle, Patrick Warburton, was not only on the show Seinfeld, but he also has been a voice actor on the famous Family Guy.
Patrick is the brother of Zach’s mom, Megan, and Zach felt like his uncle was a big enough part of his life to introduce him to his potential future wife.
After the hometown visit, Zach felt entirely comfortable and one hundred percent sure that he was now totally in love with Rachel and told her as much.

Since “Bombshell” is about “how women are perceived by the public,” that’s what costume designer Colleen Atwood centered her work on in this satirical drama about the real-life sexual harassment scandal that exploded at Fox News in 2016. Watch our exclusive video interview with Atwood above.

Jay Roach‘s film explores the allegations that brought down Fox News chairman and CEO Roger Ailes (John Lithgow). But Atwood’s most important assignment was dressing three women at the center of the storm: top newscaster Megyn Kelly (Charlize Theron), whistle-blower Gretchen Carlson (Nicole Kidman) and aspiring reporter Kayla Pospisil (Margot Robbie), the last of whom is a composite character based on women who were victimized by the network’s culture of misogyny.

The Newmans are the the most nominated family in Oscar history with a whopping 92 bids and they could bump up that number even more this year. Cousins Thomas Newman and Randy Newman are both in the running for Best Original Score for their work on two very different Best Picture contenders, “1917” and “Marriage Story,” respectively. Should they make the cut, it’d mark the first time in almost a quarter of a century and second time overall they’re competing against each other.
Two sounds mighty small when you consider that Thomas has been nominated 13 times in the category and Randy, eight. But alas, the only time they’ve collided was 24 years ago when Thomas was up for “Unstrung Heroes” and Randy was nominated for “Toy Story” in Best Musical or Comedy Score (the Oscars split score into drama and musical or comedy from 1995 to ’98); they lost to Alan Menken...

Here at Et, we’re obsessed with a lot of things -- and this is what we’re most excited about this week:
Why We’re Obsessed With Cardi B
The odds of relative newcomer Cardi B dethroning Taylor Swift’s pop juggernaut, “Look What You Made Me Do,” from the top of the Billboard Hot 100 seemed stacked against her. And yet, as fate would have it, the New York rapper’s infectious debut single, “Bodak Yellow,” has finally landed at No. 1, making the 24-year-old the first solo female hip-hop artist to top the chart since Lauryn Hill in 1998 with “Doo Wop (That Thing).” Her quick ascent is especially impressive considering Cardi has never had a chart presence before “Bodak Yellow.” Now, all eyes are on the former Love & Hip Hop: New York star as fellow artists, including Swift herself, Nicki Minaj and Missy Elliott, have all shown support. But more than anything, it’s hard...

For those done with their beach reads, it’s time to turn to these new books that will be engaging companions as the leaves change color and the temperature cools. Like film, theater and TV, the new book season comes packed with debuts from the likes of You’ve Got Mail star Tom Hanks and Matt Weiner; the return of authors John Green and John le Carre; and a biting postmortem from Hillary Clinton.
2017 Fall Preview: Film, TV, Theater and More!
All the Dirty Parts
by Daniel Handler
Now available
The author of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events ditches the pen name for a coming-of-age tale about a teenage boy discovering his sexuality. Handler delivers on the title with a blunt, honest -- and very explicit -- take on a topic that’s somehow fallen out of modern storytelling.

Ascending queens Elizabeth (“The Crown”) and Victoria (“Victoria”) face off in the Emmy race for Series Original Dramatic Score, while old Hollywood (“Feud: Bette and Joan”) counters Russian classicism (“Fargo”) for Limited Series, Movie, or Special Dramatic Score.
Meanwhile, political (“House of Cards,” Taboo”) and survival overtones (“Planet Earth II” and “A Series of Unfortunate Events”) clash in the Series category, as well as war (“Five Came Back,” “The White Helmets,” “Suite Française”) and culture (“O.J.: Made in America”) in the other category.
Not surprisingly, the odds are with Rupert Gregson-Williams (“The Crown”) and last year’s “Mr. Robot” winner, Mac Quayle (“Feud”), for their respective retro scores. While Williams reached for orchestral nobility, Quayle went for more orchestral glam.
“The Crown” — “Hyde Park Corner” (Rupert Gregson-Williams)
The score for showrunner Peter Morgan’s drama about the rise of Elizabeth II (nominated Claire Foy) was all about restraint, given her sense of calm.
