In a world suspended between absurdity and darkness, “Opus” explores the journey of Ariel Ecton, a determined writer invited to the lavish and ominous residence of pop icon Alfred Moretti. Moretti—blending the theatrical flair of a rock legend with an enigmatic persona—summons Ariel for more than a standard interview, hinting at concealed narratives surrounding his anticipated comeback.
Ariel enters a mesmerizing yet treacherous environment where initial curiosity quickly transforms into unease. The group of guests—including a pompous magazine executive and a desperate photographer—symbolize society’s fascination with glamorous facades. Their fervent desire to orbit Moretti’s charisma masks deeper, more menacing intentions.
Each interaction reveals layers of manipulation, echoing historical examples of charismatic figures who exploit human vulnerability. Ariel’s growing discomfort uncovers the uncomfortable reality of how audiences worship celebrity personas, presenting a sharp critique disguised within a darkly comedic narrative.

Tatsuki Fujimoto's Goodbye, Eri is a groundbreaking manga that deserves a film adaptation just as much as Chainsaw Man or Look Back. Goodbye, Eri uses a first-person perspective to immerse readers in a cinematic experience unlike almost any other manga. Fujimoto's art in Goodbye, Eri elevates the medium of manga, but the story would arguably work even better as a live-action film due to its exploration of the separation between art and reality.
Tatsuki Fujimoto is best known for the eccentric mixture of horror, comedy and shonen battle that is Chainsaw Man. But that's far from his only acclaimed masterpiece of modern manga. Aside from his popular and infamously dark Fire Punch, Fujimoto is also the author of a number of beloved one-shots, many of which were deemed instant cult classics and even regarded as Fujimoto's best work to date.

Florence Pugh’s career trajectory has been one that is deeply fascinating. She started strong, setting her foundations in the indie-film genre and eventually ruling it. Since then, however, a lot has changed for her. Long gone are the small-budget, smaller-scale films with fewer audiences. She has recently been thrown, head-first, into the gilded prison of stardom.

The 2023 Canadian film Beau is Afraid, directed and written by Ari Aster and starring Joaquin Phoenix, is a trip to an incomprehensible nightmare that you won’t be able to escape.
Ari Aster has done it before with “Hereditary” and “Midsommar,” and now he has created another film that can only be made by him. This is a journey into madness from the very beginning, and it’s a film that you’ll either love or hate.
Beau is Afraid (2023)
Joaquin Phoenix, one of those actors who loves to carry the weight of the film and whose abilities allow him to do so, stars in “Beau is Afraid. While we eagerly await “Joker 2” and its highly anticipated co-star (none other than Lady Gaga), Phoenix offers another one of those performances that only he could do justice to. Warning: Contains spoilers for Human Resources season 2.
Human Resources season 2 has a slew of celebrity guests, including Miley Cyrus and Florence Pugh. The series premiered on Netflix in 2022 as a spinoff of Big Mouth and follows the monsters introduced in the original series. Nick Kroll, Aidy Bryant, Keke Palmer, and Maya Rudolph all voiced characters in season 1, and they've all returned for the second and final season. The show includes several storylines per episode, often spreading plots throughout the season. Season 2 has some touching storylines about learning to love after loss and advocating for those who need a voice.
The Netflix series has no shortage of comedy this season, which is amplified by some of the famous comedians guest starring. Human Resources season 1 guest starred celebrities like Hugh Jackman, Ariana Debose, Rosie Perez, and Lupita Nyong'o. Janelle Monáe, who sings the show's theme song, "Make Me Feel," also guest starred in the season.

This month’s installment of Deep Cuts Rising features a variety of horror movies. Some selections reflect a specific day or event in June, and others were chosen at random.
Regardless of how they came to be here, or what they’re about, these past movies can generally be considered overlooked, forgotten or unknown.
This month’s offerings include a Japanese slasher, a dark tale about family, a Scandinavian haunting, a terrifying coming-out story, and an aquatic creature-feature.
The Attic (1980)
Directed by George Edwards and Gary Graver.
Fathers are usually depicted as unkind and cruel in horror, and the one in The Attic is no exception. Carrie Snodgress plays the dutiful Louise who has sacrificed her own happiness for far too long. When she tries to turn her life around and do something about her loneliness, which entails adopting a chimpanzee, her tyrannical father (Ray Milland) is quick to stomp out her ambitions.

In addition to being a thoughtful series about misplaced rage, mental health, and the “myth of the model minority,” the Netflix show “Beef” is also one of the year’s best party playlists. Created by Lee Sung Jin, the show has been praised for its soundtrack of late ‘90s and early ‘00s pop classics from bands like Incubus, The Smashing Pumpkins, and Bush. “I had a lot of the songs in the outline stage. When you do that as a writer, you assume you’re never going to get those songs. But thanks to A24, Netflix and our music supervisor, Tiffany Anders, we got every single song I wanted,” Lee said in an earlier interview with the Los Angeles Times. “It took some personal letters to some frontman bands, but it all worked out.”
But the songs are just one part of the “Beef” musical sound. Threaded between the needle...

While The Super Mario Bros. Movie is still burning up the box office, A24 actually has bragging rights for the weekend’s highest per-screen average, with Ari Aster’s Beau is Afraid posting solid numbers for the indie company. According to Variety, the film earned north of $80k per screen, making it the biggest per-screen average of 2023 (so far) and the company’s second-best per-screen opening ever – after Adam Sandler’s Uncut Gems. It made $320,396 this weekend, which is a significant number considering it was only open on 4 screens. While it remains to be seen if Beau is Afraid can outgross Ari Aster’s other movies, Hereditary ($44 million) or Midsommer ($27 million), this is a slam-bag start for the oddball horror/comedy/drama.
Indeed, Beau is Afraid is such a weird movie that the chances of it even beginning to approach the grosses of Aster’s other films seems remote at best.

A version of this story about Henry Winkler first appeared in the Down to the Wire issue of TheWrap’s Emmy magazine.
When Henry Winkler’s agent told him he was on the short list for a part in an upcoming HBO comedy series from Bill Hader and Alec Berg, Winkler had an immediate response: “Is Dustin Hoffman also on the short list? ‘Cause if he is, I’m not going in.”
But Hoffman wasn’t, so Winkler showed up, “made Bill Hader smile and then laugh,” and landed the role of Gene Cousineau, an alternately brash and seductive acting teacher in “Barry.”
The acclaimed new comedy’s 13 nominations include Outstanding Comedy Series and acting nods for Hader and for Winkler, 42 years after he received the first of his three noms for the iconic role of Fonzie in “Happy Days.”

The next season of “Arrested Development” should be here momentarily. But before that hits, you’re going to get a new take on what happened on the last “Arrested Development.”
In an open letter posted to the official “Arrested Development” Twitter account Tuesday, series creator Mitch Hurwitz said that he had “Two exciting updates about Netflix and the series” to make.
First, he said that Season 5 will be dropping “soon. Like real soon. Like, if you knew when, you would not be wrong to be thinking ‘why are we all just hearing this now?'”
Also Read: Henry Winkler Says 'Arrested Development' Season 5 Will Premiere in 'Midsummer'
And second — and far less vague, Hurwitz says Season 4 is gonna get a remix — after the original “experimented with a Rashomon-style of storytelling” by focusing each of its 15 episodes on an individual character.
But the new version, titled “Arrested Development Season 4 Remix: Fateful Consequences,” reimagines the installment as a 22-episode adventure with interwoven storylines. And it’s going to drop on May 4 aka the “premature holiday the Bluth family know as Cinco de Cuatro.”
“The goal was that by the end of the season, a unified story of cause and effect would emerge for the viewer — full of surprises about how the Bluths were responsible for most of the misery they had endured,” Hurwitz wrote. “In some ways to be an experience for that viewer, perhaps, akin to eating toast, then some bacon– maybe a sliced tomato followed by some turkey, and realizing, ‘Hey, I think I just had a Blt.’ But in between season 4 and this upcoming season 5, I had time to take that Rashomon-type story and recut it — shuffling the content from 15 individualized stories into 22 interwoven stories the length of the original series — as an experiment to find out, well… I guess ‘if I could make some money.’ I mean, who am I kidding, I want this thing to syndicate eventually.”

Barry Zuckerkorn (Henry Winkler) just gave up some privileged information about his most difficult clients.
Winkler, who plays the Bluths’ incompetent lawyer on “Arrested Development,” says Season 5 of the show about a wealthy family who lost everything and the one son who had no choice but to keep them all together will premiere this summer.
“That will be on midsummer,” the “Barry” star said in an interview with Decider published Friday, when asked about the premiere date for the upcoming installment. “We just shot it before Christmas.”

A Netflix spokesperson confirmed to TheWrap Season 5 “is coming soon.”
Winkler’s comment about the drop date is the most recent bit of news about Season 5, after “Arrested Development” executive producer Ron Howard tweeted a picture last month showing his voiceover work for the upcoming season was already underway.
“For my birthday this morning I was back at the mic for the ‘Next…#ArrestedDevelopment,'” the famously-uncredited narrator tweeted, along with a photo of his partially obscured script for the first episode of the season and footage of Michael Bluth (Jason Bateman) climbing up some stairs, in what we hope is a model home.

Though Netflix confirmed a 2018 release for Season 5 of “Arrested Development” last May, no official premiere date has been announced. However, David Cross told am New York in February that filming is “all done” on the long-awaited installment. “Hopefully, in the spring it’ll be out,” he added.
Cross also mentioned in the interview that, while he “can’t speak for everybody,” he and some of the other cast members “stand behind” co-star Jeffrey Tambor, who was ousted from Amazon’s “Transparent” in February, following sexual misconduct accusations posed against him by actresses Van Barnes and Trace Lysette.
The actor said he doubts the accusations will affect Tambor’s involvement in the series, but is not the one who makes those decisions.
