Marvel's street-level vigilantes join forces under the leadership of Charlie Cox's Daredevil against Mayor Fisk in new Marvel Cinematic Universe art. The MCU timeline has been exploring various vigilantes through various shows and films, and Daredevil: Born Again is putting a bigger spotlight on the street-level side of the franchise with the return of Matt Murdock and Frank Castle. With Wilson Fisk now serving as mayor of New York, vigilantes have a bigger target on their backs than ever.

Through Daredevil: Born Again season 1, Mayor Fisk has slowly been targeting vigilantes in New York, with many fans convinced that the MCU is leading to an adaptation of Marvel's Devil's Reign storyline. The latest episode of Daredevil: Born Again recently made its way to the screens, and the way the show has delivered this time around already seems to be better than all the past episodes from the saga. One of the major reasons behind this is that it finally seems to have brought back Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle, aka the Punisher.

For one, while no serious progression has found its way into Frank’s story, the anti-hero was still once again introduced to the screens years after his original television series concluded airing on the screens. But his unhinged mind being teased this way was actually enough—not to mention, Bernthal himself is looking forward to carrying the same in The Punisher TV special too.

Jon Bernthal wanted to be sure Marvel had the right story for him before bringing Frank Castle back in Daredevil: Born Again.

Following the Punisher's long-awaited return in Born Again's fourth episode, Bernthal spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the road to his reappearance and why the pre-overhaul show's initial pitch never appealed to him. "Ultimately, I didn't see it. I didn't see the version of Frank, and what they wanted from Frank [didn't] really make sense to me and I thought would not appeal to the fans and wouldn't be congruent. It was not something I was really interested in doing. So we had to walk away," he said.

Once the original showrunners were let go in 2023 and replaced with Dario Scardapane -- who helped executive produce Netflix's The Punisher spinoff -- Bernthal felt more at ease with its direction, stating, "They really brought me into the conversation.

The Punisher is easily one of Marvel's most famous and sometimes controversial, as he often kills his enemies, which typical superheroes do not. In the final moments of last week’s episode, Hector Ayala, aka the hero White Tiger, was found innocent in his trial against the NYPD then shot and killed on the street by an unknown murderer. Now, Matt searches for the culprit, and he originally thinks the corrupt cop Powell (Hamish Allan-Headley) is the shooter. He corners Powell in the courthouse and interrogates him, but the trail goes cold as Matt listens to Powell’s steady heartbeat with his super-senses and determines he’s innocent.

Luke Cage actor Mike Colter recently shared his thoughts about returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor previously portrayed the character in Marvel's Netflix television series.

As reported by Collider, Colter spoke about reprising his role as Luke Cage during a panel at Indiana Comic Con. "I still have hopes for it," he said. "I don't think about it anymore. I think there's always time. I don't think it's impossible. Anything can happen." Colter previously appeared in Netflix's Luke Cage series, which aired from 2016-2018, as well as its crossover event The Defenders in 2017. In February, it was reported that Marvel executives have been trying to get other members of The Defenders team back in the MCU for future projects.

Earlier this month, Daredevil: Born Again premiered on Disney+, both reviving and continuing the Daredevil series originally released on Netflix. Charlie Cox reprises his role as Matt Murdock / Daredevil for the new series.

Hopefully, Daredevil: Born Again’s creative team will treat Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle, a.k.a. the Punisher, with more respect than Foggy (Elden Henson) received in the very first installment of the Disney+ streaming series. Bernthal hasn't appeared yet in the episodes which have already dropped. However, the fan-favorite Marvel character's arrival is imminent, and it will undoubtedly rub Mayor Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) the wrong way given the Kingpin's political stance on vigilantes. Regardless of how Fisk reacts, though, showrunner Dario Scardapane is teasing a tornadic reunion between the fan-favorite vigilante and the man without fear (Charlie Cox). Scardapane said in an interview with TVLine:

"Jon is near and dear to my heart. It was amazing to come back and get to work with him again. I feel that whenever Frank comes into the story, hijinks ensue, and in this story, that is very, very true.

The White Tiger is one of the vigilantes in Hell’s Kitchen who protects innocent people. Hector Ayala’s storyline in the series is also a poignant tribute to actor Kamar de los Reyes, who portrayed him. Reyes passed away on December 24, 2023, at the age of 56 due to cancer.

Former WWE star Kevin Nash appeared in the film as one of the villains, The Russian, and fought against Jane’s Frank Castle in the film. In one of the scenes, Jane had to stab Nash with a knife, which he thought was a prop one. However, someone on the movie set messed up and Jane was handed the real weapon instead of the fake weapon.

Daredevil: Born Again is set to feature the Punisher as one of the chief characters in its story, and that seems to be that this might echo some real-life issues that have come to be associated with the character. The Punisher is going to have a very deep and complicated storyline that is going to focus on some themes that have allegedly been long overdue for the character.

The new month has already seen the premiere of one of its most anticipated series, Disney+’s “Daredevil” revival, “Daredevil: Born Again,” but several other major series will have their premieres or returns this month, including the final seasons of “The Righteous Gemstones” and “Bosch: Legacy,” the Season 3 return of “Dark Winds,” and the new workplace comedy “The Studio,” starring and created by Seth Rogan.

On the film side, two award season favorites will make their streaming debuts this month: the understated prison drama “Sing Sing,” starring Oscar nominee Colman Domingo, and the musical blockbuster “Wicked,” starring double nominees Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.

The pre-creative overhaul version of Daredevil: Born Again wasn't going to feature Karen Page or Foggy Nelson, with the latter set to be killed off-screen (we can only imagine what the backlash to that decision would have looked like). 

When The Punisher showrunner Dario Scardapane took charge of the Daredevil revival, Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson were both tapped to reprise their respective Marvel roles. 

Talking to Entertainment Weekly about her return, Woll admitted that initially being dropped from Daredevil: Born Again - which had been envisioned as a full reboot - was a tough pill to swallow.

As Donald Trump prepares to address Congress tonight amidst tariffs, a stock market slump and dangerous intranational realignments and anxiety, it is a reminder it has become impossible the past month not to see almost everything through the distorted lens of a convicted felon president’s latest reign of terror and error.

With terms like “resist” and “retribution” employed in the long-awaited and creatively retooled Charlie Cox-led Born Again, the first Daredevil series since 2018 lines up to the real America of 2025 on a number of levels. Certainly, with the City Hall-aspiring Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) promising five boroughs voters to “keep our streets safe” to grab absolute power to abuse for riches, there is a lot of Maga here, as well as a lot of creativity and history.

After a long wait, Charlie Cox is set to return as The Man Without Fear in the upcoming MCU series, Daredevil: Born Again. Amid the anticipation and concern about the fan-favorite superhero’s return, the show’s producer has assured fans that it will live up to their expectations, especially with the highly anticipated comeback of Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle, aka the Punisher.

Bringing back several beloved characters from the original Netflix show, Daredevil: Born Again has kept fans on the edge. However, the show’s producer, Dario Scardapane, has assured fans that it will not disappoint, especially with the highly anticipated return of the Punisher.

We just recently bid our farewells to 2024 — a year that was unusually quiet when it came to new superhero projects. DC released only one single live-action movie in the form of Joker: Folie à Deux, while the Marvel Cinematic Universe followed the exact same path with Deadpool & Wolverine. Granted, there were some amazing series such as The Penguin and Agatha All Along to fill in the gaps. But amidst a creative reboot in DC's offices and Marvel rethinking their release strategy moving forward, there's no denying it was an uncharacteristically dry year. On the bright side, 2025 will be anything but, and things will only get better as we head into 2026.

Years of anticipation have led to this moment, and the premiere of Daredevil: Born Again is officially upon us. The first two episodes of the TV-ma Disney+ series are set to debut on the platform tomorrow, with the show then following a weekly release model through the remaining seven episodes until the season finale on April 15. To celebrate the imminent release, the official Daredevil X account has shared the final teaser from Born Again, which features Jon Bernthal’s Punisher narrating over newly-released footage until the two come to blows at the end. Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and Frank Castle have always been at odds over how to handle criminals, but Matt may be forced to call on Frank in Daredevil: Born Again when he has nowhere else to turn.

It's hard to argue against the fact that Jon Bernthal is currently the definitive actor to take on the role of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's (MCU) most feared vigilante, The Punisher (aka Frank Castle). Bernthal perfectly captured the controversial anti-hero's bottomless rage and humanity. He was such a perfect fit for the role that he was frequently cited as one of the best parts of the McU's inconsistent Netflix era.

The same, unfortunately, can't be said for his villains. If fans loved Bernthal's performance so much that he's inseparable from the character, most (if not all) of his villains faded into obscurity. This wasn't because the actors were bad; in fact, they were all good. The problem was that Netflix's The Punisher wasted Frank's villains by repeating some of the oldest and most frustrating mistakes of the modern superhero genre.

Karen was a pivotal character in Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli's legendary Born Again comics run that inspired the Disney+ show, though there are expected to be key differences. Jon Bernthal’s acting chops were developed at the Moscow Art Theatre School and later at Harvard’s Institute for Advanced Theater Training. He started his acting career in some Off-Broadway shows, before appearing in guest roles in several television series. His breakout role in television was Shane Walsh in Frank Darabont’s The Walking Dead.

He was a regular on the AMC show until 2012. He was also part of several movies during this time period. In 2013, he played Brad alongside Leonardo DiCaprio’s Jordan Belfort in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street. Marvel’s upcoming series, Daredevil: Born Again, is set to enrich its narrative by integrating elements of light-heartedness and drama through the inclusion of Yusuf Khan, portrayed by Mohan Kapur. Yusuf, known from Ms. Marvel as Kamala Khan’s father, steps into Matt Murdock’s world, adding a unique blend of comedic and serious tones to the series.

Marvel Studios executive Sana Amanat shared insights about Yusuf’s role in the series. “It was such a fun challenge, I have to say. I was laughing a lot because I do think that’s the most McU-aspect of a cameo like that is that we brought some of that comedic energy that the MCU is known for with Yusuf Khan.

The challenge is we’re not living in the Ms. Marvel world or corner. We’re living in the Daredevil corner, so just making sure that the tone compliments Matt Murdock.

Fans of the Netflix-era Marvel shows -- known as the Defenders Saga after they joined the rest of Marvel Studios' fare -- are no doubt waiting for "Daredevil: Born Again," not least because the show will see the return of Jon Bernthal's Punisher. Bernthal delivered what may very well be the definitive version of Marvel Comics' famed violent vigilante in "Daredevil" season 2 (2015), and returned for two seasons of a solo show called "The Punisher" (2017-2019).

Following his appearance in the first season of the Daredevil: Born Again revival-of-sorts (premiering Tuesday, March 4), Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle aka The Punisher will headline a Marvel Studios’ Special Presentation à la Werewolf by Night and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.

“It’s like a shotgun blast of a story,” Marvel Television chief Brad Winderbaum told EW.com, “but also has all the pathos and emotion that you want out of a Frank Castle story.”

Marvel Televison has confirmed a Punisher special starring Jon Bernthal is in the works.

Bernthal’s Frank Castle, a.k.a. the Punisher, who returns as the character in Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, headlines the Marvel special, which is said to be in the vein of Werewolf by Night or The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, according to EW, which first reported the news.

Bernthal is co-writing the special alongside Reinaldo Marcus Green, who will also direct. The special will air in 2026, alongside Daredevil Season 2.

Bernthal first played the Frank Castle role on Netflix’s version of Daredevil, debuting the character during second season in 2016. He then went on to play the titular character for two seasons of Netflix’s The Punisher, which aired from 2017-19.

Netflix’s Defenders saga was an unexpected hit thanks to its unique roaster of underdog superhero characters and enticing storylines that delivered just the right amount of punch, kick-ass action, and emotional gravity. So it was a pleasant surprise when the saga was officially included in the MCU timeline and Daredevil: Born Again was kicked off featuring the iconic characters.
