One of my favorite types of movie to watch is the wilderness-set slasher movie, particularly summer camp slashers, with my favorite film franchise being Friday the 13th. I’m always on the lookout for a new summer camp slasher to watch – which is why the trailer for Marshmallow caught my eye. Hemlock Circle Productions will be giving this film a theatrical release on April 11th, and the trailer can be seen in the embed above.

“Loot” star Nat Faxon is set to guest star on CBS’ “Ghosts” in an episode slated to air in early 2025.

The series stars Rose McIver as cheerful freelance journalist Samantha and Utkarsh Ambudkar as up-and-coming chef Jay, who throw both caution and money to the wind when they decide to convert a huge run-down country estate they inherited into a bed and breakfast — only to find it’s inhabited by the many spirits of deceased residents.

The “Our Flag Means Death” star is set to portray Alexander Hamilton, the famous founding father who was Isaac’s rival in life and obsession in death. Faxon’s other notable credits include “The Way Way Back,” “The Descendants,” “Bad Teacher” and “Club Dread.”

At long last, it seems like Broken Lizard is getting the gang back together for another round of cop-related shenanigans. That's right! After much discussion in recent years, it seems that "Super Troopers 3" is coming together. While a formal announcement hasn't been made, writer/director Jay Chandrasekhar has revealed that the project is in active discussions at Disney and appears to be close to getting approval. In short, unless something derails it, it's happening.

During a recent appearance on the "Holmberg's Morning Sickness" radio show, Chandrasekhar revealed that, despite Disney's $71.3 billion purchase of Fox in 2019, "Super Troopers 3" is still very much alive. It was previously revealed during San Diego Comic-Con in 2018 that the sequel will be titled "Winter Soldiers," and whether or not that's still the case remains to be seen. When Star Trek: Lower Decks launches its fifth and final season later this week, Eugene Cordero will once again voice Sam Rutherford. For fans of the series, they'll know Sam Rutherford as the partially cybernetic human, who helps make up the core group of four on the show. He's constantly featured in the series and is one of the fandom's favorite characters.

To no one's surprise, either. Rutherford is a loving, funny, and endearing character, and fans gravitate to him. It's partly due to the writing but also partly due to Cordero's excellent portrayal of the character. He's done so much work to bring Rutherford to life, it's almost shocking to know that of all of his recent works, it's not Lower Decks that he shines the most in.

Now, it'd be a lie to say that everything Cordero has been in has been viewed by the writer of this article.

You probably cringe at the thought of hearing about a movie from a group of comedians coming out with a slasher film, right? Well, let me just say that horror comedies weren’t typically prevalent back when horror had the Carpenters, Cravens, Romeros, and Cronenbergs slashing about in Hollywood. Everything was serious in tone and brought the stuff made of nightmares. You had your infamous slasher icons like Michael, Freddy, Jason, and even Chucky. You also had horror movie monsters like The Thing, The Great White Shark from Jaws, Brundlefly, Godzilla, and even Tremors. But then, as we entered a new millennium, Horror started to ease up on the tension and seriousness, in exchange for some quick wit and laughs. Horror brought in a new style into its genre with comedic undertones which was a great opening for some new films in the pipeline to help branch horror into unfamiliar territory.

There are all sorts of reasons to love movies, but there’s nothing quite like the experience of getting scared with a group of people. The horror genre is deeply subjective and it’s fascinating to see how trends can change across decades and what routinely gets under the audience’s skin.

Movie audiences have become increasingly savvy to genre conventions and tropes, which has given self-aware projects and ambitious parodies new life. The horror genre is such a natural fit for heightened parodies that properly accentuate both terror and humor. A lot of these genre-bending projects find success, but there are some that go above and beyond to become evergreen classics.

I have an opinion: "Slasher" is better than "American Horror Story."

Maybe that's not so controversial to say in 2023, when the popular horror anthology series created by Ryan Murphy hasn't had a good season in almost five years, and hasn't had a great one in over 10. "AHS" premiered in 2011, the same year that the sci-fi/technology-run-amok anthology series "Black Mirror" premiered. Curiously, though "Black Mirror" was just as popular, and was covered as furiously as "AHS" was in its prime, its influence on subsequent sci-fi visions seems to have jumped mediums to film. One can imagine pressing play on a new season of "Black Mirror" and watching films like "Ex-Machina," "The Circle," and "Vivarium," were a few minutes shaved off each.

In most versions of the classic 1831 Victor Hugo tale, The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, the female protagonist is Esmeralda, a French Romani girl who is so beautiful that every major male character in the story either wants to marry her or seduce her. Whenever people whine about movies that "couldn't be made today," they're usually referring to comedy films with a grossly outdated sense of humor or storylines that are blatantly discriminatory. A colleague of mine, Marc Edward Heuck, once compared the films of the Broken Lizard comedy troupe to 7-Eleven hot dogs. The comparison was meant to be favorable. In both cases, the thinking went, the artisans in question know full well that they are not offering haute cuisine. Instead, the consumer is getting something efficiently constructed, barely flavorful enough, and perfect for a night when the edibles hit a little harder than expected. Broken Lizard's films have never elevated beyond the realm of raunchy, frat boy-style chuckle-fests, but have possessed just enough zingers, oddball gags, and precision-strike profanity to entrench themselves in the friendly cult trench inside the human brain. They possess an affable, thrown-off quality that makes them weirdly appealing, even as the jokes periodically fall flat.

“Tacoma Fd” is a workplace shenanigan-style comedy that has garnered polarized reviews from its audience – the jokes will either land with you or they won’t. However, an 8.1 out of 10 rating on IMDb shows the audience has mostly liked it.

Kevin Heffernan and Steve Lemme wrote this show. They are also the show’s executive producers, alongside David Miner, Greg Walter, Brandon Hendrix, and Kyle Clark.

Hulu is out with its list of everything new coming to the streaming service in the month of September — and everything that’s leaving.

Highlights in the new category include Season 2 of “Pen15,” which stars Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle as their middle school selves, out Sept. 18. Another highlight is the series premiere of “Woke,” inspired by the life and work of American cartoonist Keith Knight. That’s out Sept. 9.

As August winds down, it’s time to look ahead to everything that’s hitting the major streaming services in September. As always, there’s an enormous haul of originals and newly licensed titles going up across Netflix, Disney Plus, HBO Max, Hulu and Prime Video over the month, including content from every genre out there.

The first day of September brings the usual lengthy list of movies arriving on most of the sites. Just a few of the highlights include all three Back to the Future films returning to Netflix, every entry in the Twilight saga arriving on Hulu and countless iconic movies going up on HBO Max, including Grease, Miss Congeniality and V for Vendetta. Also, Doctor Who fans will want to take note, as the most recent season of the show lands on HBO Max the same day.

As one of the weirder “back to school” seasons in living memory rolls out, Hulu is heading back to school in its own way for September 2020.

The biggest Hulu original arriving to the streaming services stream this month is season 2 of coming-of-age comedy Pen15…which of course stars two adults who have already come of age playing their middle school selves.

Speaking of middle school, perhaps the biggest non-original addition to the Hulu library this month is the arrival of all The Twilight Saga movies on September 1. That should prove to be a real nostalgia trip for interested parties. Other library titles of note include Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, The Terminator, and 2019’s Judy on September 25.

Bookending Hulu’s originals this month is another intriguing comedy, Woke. This series will star Lamorne Morris as a Black cartoonist who gets an unexpected wakeup call.

It might still be six weeks until October, but horror movies are a year-round joy, and several new genre titles are making their way to Hulu next month.

An American Haunting is one of several cinematic takes on the Tennessee legend of the Bell Witch, switching between the 21st and 19th centuries as a teenager experiences the same trauma as another young girl far in the past, which may or may not be caused by witchcraft and a ghostly apparition.

Best known as the team behind anarchic comedy Super Troopers, Broken Lizard also took a far less successful stab at slasher movies with Club Dread, adding to the post-Scream glut of the subgenre’s resurgence with a comedic tale of a serial killer stalking the staff of an island holiday resort.

With the streaming wars really starting to heat up now thanks to all the new services that have sprung up over the past few months, it’s more important than ever for the major players to continue delivering truckloads of new content to keep subscribers happy. Earlier today, the platform announced their September line-up and it’s an exciting mix of films and TV shows covering iconic classics, underrated gems, overlooked projects and true fan favorites. We caught up with Broken Lizard’s Kevin Heffernan and Steve Lemme and discuss what’s ahead for their feature film slate.

Steve Lemme and Kevin Heffernan of the Broken Lizard comedy troupe have forged a strong name for themselves in the comedy world. The collective started as a NYC-based sketch group, but slowly parlayed their talents to the big screen. Many people still regard Broken Lizard’s Super Troopers to be their strongest feature, but over the years they’ve put out a number of memorable, irreverent comedies like Beerfest and Club Dread. Lemme and Heffernan’s latest efforts have taken them over to television with TruTV’s Tacoma Fd. The hilarious firefighter series is well in production on their second season, but just because they’ve found success on TV doesn’t mean that they’ve turned their backs on cinema. Quite the contrary.

Turner’s TBS, TNT and truTV have set their lineups for next month’s New York Comic Con, with panels featuring the likes of All Elite Wrestling and Chris Jericho, an exclusive sneak peek of the upcoming TNT sci-fi series Snowpiercer, and Samantha Bee previewing her next Full Frontal special “Election 2020.”

The lineup also includes truTV’s Impractical Jokers and its stars, who will be joined by Jameela Jamil to talk about TBS’ new game show The Misery Index, which she hosts. I’m pretty much an easy mark for slasher movies, especially ones that take place at a summer camp. There’s something so wholesome and retro about counselors getting picked off by a masked killer that it always warms my heart. And because I love the slasher genre so dearly, any film that dares to offer a deconstruction on the subgenre piques my curiosity. And I’m here to tell you that in spite of the humor mostly falling a little flat for me, the slasher stuff in You Might Be the Killer works like gangbusters with some crunchy, wet practical kills that keep the blood flowing throughout.

With Roseanne back on the air after 20 years, and shows and films like Stranger Things, It and Ready Player One relying so heavily on their nostalgia factor, it’s not too surprising that we got a second Super Troopers. 17 years ago, the Broken Lizard troupe came out of nowhere, landing a deal with Fox Searchlight, grossing an unbelievable amount of money, and creating a cult hit in the process. Much of their charm feels reminiscent to that of Monty Python’s. But just as a second Holy Grail would impair the impact of the first, Super Troopers 2 has little worth laughing at other than a couple of retold jokes.

April 20, recognized among marijuana users as the international holiday of 4/20, falls on a Friday this year, which turns out to be the perfect release date for Fox Searchlight’s “Super Troopers 2,” the long awaited sequel to the 2001 stoner-movie classic “Super Troopers.” It will open wide on 2,400 screens.

“Fox Searchlight chose 4/20 as the release date,” director Jay Chandrasekhar says. “It tested better than any of the movies we’ve ever made before. There’s real enthusiasm at Fox over this film.”

That’s not often the case with so-called stoner movies, which have endured waves of acceptance and industry reticence over the years. But now with marijuana legalization in full swing in nine states, including California, have the studios come around to stoking that market again like Cheech & Chong did during the decriminalization wave of the ’70s with “Up in Smoke” and several sequels into the ’80s?

How many penis jokes can you fit into a film? Super Troopers 2 tries to answer the question by pushing the subject to the max (that’s not a euphemism). The male parts get kicked, tasered, threatened of being shaved, discussed ad nauseam, and even boxed. Why they are the centerpiece of so many jokes could be analyzed on a deeper level, but that would require giving these jokes more thought than The Broken Lizard crew gave the script.

The lazy script – attributed to the entire Broken Lizard collective – doesn’t just reach for such low hanging fruit when it comes to genitalia, farts, and sex, but also in the way of making fun of Canadians. Seventeen years after the original “Super Troopers,” the sequel is arriving in theaters with a massive assist from fans of the wacky police comedy.

Fans of Broken Lizard can now mark their calendars as the comedy troupe’s next big screen adventure, Super Troopers 2, is set to be released April 20, 2018. The guys haven’t been seen together in a film since 2009’s The Slammin’ Salmon, in which the usual crew played waiters and chefs. The Original Super Troopers was released 15 years ago and became a cult classic with the ridiculous antics of some not so law-abiding law enforcement officers.

A minute-long teaser for Super Troopers 2 was released today, and from the looks of it, fans are in store for more of what made the first movie great. We see what looks to be some more shenanigans from the guys, as Rabbit, the rookie from the first film who was endlessly hazed, is tied down to a table and the rest of the guys seem to be dead set on helping him out with some manscaping.

It’s been 16 years since Super Troopers underperformed at the box office only to blossom into a bonafide cult classic, and now comedy troupe Broken Lizard are back with Super Troopers 2. The troupe have produced several other films since Super Troopers, including Club Dread and Beer League, but none entered the zeitgeist the way Troopers did.

In 2001, the Broken Lizard comedy troupe wrote and starred in the comedy “Super Troopers” about five goofball Vermont state troopers who are forced to save their jobs by actually solving a crime instead of pulling pranks all day. The film was a moderate box office success and was a hit on home video, and in the past 15 years, it has become a cult classic. Now, the long-awaited sequel has started filming, confirmed by the Broken Lizard Facebook page with the cheeky comment: “Action, chickenf**kers: back on set and we just the first new scene of #SuperTroopers2.” Check out the photo below.

While we wait for any concrete developments on the long-awaited Cheech & Chong sequel Up in Smoke 2, Tommy Chong reveals that Broken Lizard director Jay Chandrasekhar (Super Troopers, The Babymakers) is currently writing a new movie for the iconic comedy duo.

During an interview with Celeb Stoner, Tommy Chong explained that the story will follow Cheech & Chong as the head towards a festival called Burning Joint.

"We've had some preliminary meetings. It looks really good. It looks really funny. It's about us going to a festival called the Burning Joint. All sorts of shenanigans happen. It's going to be a lot of fun."

Jay Chandrasekhar was introduced to Cheech & Chong through Cheech Marin's manager, with Tommy Chong confirming that they may start production this summer.

"They came at us with a rough idea and now they're fleshing it out and making it into a budgetable script. We could start shooting this summer.

Broken Lizard alum Paul Soter is taking a break from outlandish, wacky comedies like Super Troopers and Beerfest and going in a different direction: horror, pure and simple. In his new film, Dark Circles, not a laugh is to be had in this dark psychological horror flick about new parents who fall apart when sleep deprivation gets the better of them. We spoke with Paul about his love of horror movies, how this film was inspired by his real-life experience as a new dad, and how horror differs from Broken Lizard films.
