It's challenging to state the cultural significance associated with Doctor Who. The British series follows a time-traveling alien named The Doctor who whips through time in a blue Police box called the Tardis with his companions and helping beings along the way.
The series debuted in the 1960s and concluded its original run in 1989. It was revived in 2005 and has continued ever since, with 14 actors holding the role of the Doctor. Doctor Who may seem like a silly sci-fi show on the outside, but this series is no stranger to tugging on heartstrings, especially in the "New Who" seasons post-2005.

Legendary Western director John Ford had an extremely long and productive relationship with one actor at the start of their careers, and they ended up making 25 films together in just four years. Some of John Ford's best movies are also some of the best Western movies ever made, such as The Searchers and Stagecoach. Ford is a legend in the Western genre for a reason, and part of that reason was that he elevated the actors he worked with to a new level. Evidently, that trend started very early in Ford's career with one legendary actor in 1917.
Many directors, John Ford included, have been known to work with certain actors they mesh well with professionally. For example, Quentin Tarantino has a list of recurring actors, while Sam Raimi puts Bruce Campbell in nearly all his films. Likewise, John Ford made nine Westerns with John Wayne, plus an additional 15 in other genres.

I have been waiting for a replacement for Leigh Bardugo's Ninth House, and I think I finally found it in this new fantasy book coming in the fall of 2024. For me, Ninth House was a fascinating dark academia read, filled with the kind of intricate worldbuilding and thoroughly planned-out character progression that I love. Though updates on Ninth House's Prime Video adaptation have been few and far between, the story has still stuck with me, especially after that cliffhanger in Hell Bent.
As a result, I have been trying to find a story that will tide me over as I wait for Ninth House's third installment, which has yet to have a release date at the time of writing. Though Ninth House is one of many fantasy books getting live-action adaptations, what I want is a story that holds the same levels of mystery, magic, and charm that the original book had.

Leigh Bardugo is a #1 New York Times bestselling author best known for the Grishaverse series. She is a critically acclaimed author who writes young adult and adult fantasy novels. Her most popular books, the Six of Crows duology, is part of the Grishaverse, along with Shadow and Bone and King of Scars. The Grishaverse also has several companion books. Netflix adapted the Grishaverse into a combined TV show, but Shadow and Bone was canceled after season 2. Leigh Bardugo's other popular series, the Alex Stern books, currently consists of Ninth House and the sequel Hell Bent.
Amazon has secured the rights to the Alex Stern books and is creating a Ninth House TV show adaptation. Leigh Bardugo's books all incorporate Jewish themes. The Grisha people are based on Russian culture and mythology while Ninth House draws inspiration from Yale secret societies. The Familiar, Bardugo's most recent novel, explores Judaism under the Spanish Inquisition.

Forty years ago this summer, a perfect storm of moviemaking elements came together with almost supernatural precision: SNL alums like Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray at the height of their popularity; director Ivan Reitman and co-writer Harold Ramis at the peak of their creativity; unexpectedly innovative and convincing VFX developed by Richard Edlund on a budget because Ilm was too busy; and a weathered and weary New York City that, still a decade out from “urban renewal,” proved a perfect backdrop for a comedy about working stiffs going into business.
All these elements and more seemed to capture lightning in a bottle at a specific time and place for one of the great American comedies. In retrospect, it seems almost impossible to duplicate. But that doesn’t mean there was a lack of trying. Despite Ghostbusters being a singularly deadpanned ‘80s comedy, the film has generated cartoon spinoffs, video games,...

The horror genre has always been a home for marginalized audiences; viewers who find comfort in the movies that the mainstream media often dismissed as "too different to be good." It's why the medium has become such a fan-favorite for underserved communities even though it hasn't always shown them the same love back. Whether it be race, sexuality, or gender, horror has a sordid history of perpetuating stereotypes rather than amplifying these underserved voices, with films like 2004's Hellbent, directed by Paul Etheredge, trying to remedy this decades-long issue. The movie made history by premiering as the first truly gay slasher, focusing on a group of gay men trying to survive a masked killer as they get ready for a West Hollywood Halloween party. It follows the typical plotting of a slasher, but injects this traditional setup with its own special flair; it utilizes the creators' deep understanding of LGBTQ...

*Warning — this review contains some spoilers for 'Boom'*
Ever since Ncuti Gatwa took over the Tardis keys to become Doctor Who’s Fifteenth Doctor, things have been pretty non-stop for everybody’s favourite Time Lord. From playing cosmic catch with Neil Patrick Harris’ Toymaker in 60th anniversary special debut ‘The Giggle’, to scat-battling a goblin king with new companion Ruby Sunday (Gibson) in Christmas outing ‘The Church On Ruby Road’, to run-ins with space babies, bogeymen, Beatles, and the celestial embodiment of music itself in 'Space Babies' and 'The Devil's Chord', there’s barely been a moment for the Doctor — or indeed the show’s viewers — to take a breath. All of that changes with ‘Boom’, a stripped back, slowed down, and cheek-clenchingly suspenseful character study from former Who showrunner — and Weeping Angels creator — Steven Moffat.

148 countries were represented at the event held at the Cary Grant Theatre on the Sony Pictures Studios lot, with films competing in six categories: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Environment, Animation, Student and Future Format.
Created by Creo and sponsored by Sony, the black tie affair hosted by “Entertainment Tonight” correspondent Denny Directo was preceded by a week-long industry immersion program and workshops with established Hollywood executives.

Leigh Bardugo confirmed a third Alex Stern book will follow Hell Bent, which set the stage for a high-stakes story with its ending. The upcoming sequel will be the final book, tying up loose ends and taking the characters outside New Haven. While no release date is set, Bardugo's meticulous research and other projects may delay Alex Stern 3 until 2026 or later.
Hell Bent offered a gripping follow-up to Leigh Bardugo's Ninth House in 2023, but its ending may leave readers wondering if another Alex Stern book is on the horizon. Ninth House marked the author's first foray into adult fiction, and it took several years to craft and publish the sequel to the dark academia story. Both Ninth House and Hell Bent follow Galaxy "Alex" Stern, a student at Yale with the ability to see and possess ghosts, also known as Grays. During her freshman year, Alex gets drawn into a...

Steven Moffat has frequently proven himself to be one of Doctor Who's strongest writers. Daft Punk is a duo that hardly needs an introduction. While the horror genre touched on queerness well before Hellbent was ever released, Paul Etheredge-Ouzts’ 2004 film is considered to be the first of its kind: an openly queer slasher. Without question, there is no ambiguity about the characters’ sexualities as they partake in the annual Halloween festivities in West Hollywood. The only real mystery about these men is the masked killer following them, hoping to add their names to his growing list of headless victims.
Art director Etheredge-Ouzts was first approached by producers Michael Roth, Joseph Wolf and Karen Lee Wolf in 2000 about making a gay horror film. By then, the trend of slashers hard on the heels of Scream had already reached its expiration date, but even so, what eventually became Hellbent remains a unique entry in the first major revival of slashers. And what was once coded in both past and contemporary films was now glaring and unapologetic in this one.

Doctor Who audio drama actor Rufus Hound rather creatively expresses his interest in reprising his role of the classic series villain The Meddling Monk. The character was the first Time Lord other than the Doctor to appear in the series, crossing paths with William Hartnell's First Doctor in 1965's "The Time Meddler." The Monk was portrayed by Peter Butterworth in "The Time Meddler" and "The Dalek's Master Plan," and has been voiced by Hound, Graeme Garden, and Game of Thrones' Gemma Whelan in Big Finish's audio dramas.
While Hound is set to reprise his role as the Monk in Big Finish's Doctor Who 60th anniversary adventure Once & Future, the actor now shares his hopes to reprise the role on television one day.
Just to let you and the fandom know, if anyone else ever gets to play The Monk on television before me, I will track them down and kill them.

With Season 2 of Shadow and Bone on the horizon, a recently released sequel to her Ninth House book series titled Hell Bent, and a Ninth House television show in the works, Leigh Bardugo has a lot of irons in the fire. We spoke with her recently about her Hell Bent, the second book in her Alex Stern book series. Back when the first book, Ninth House, came out in October 2019, the paranormal fantasy novel earned praise from authors like Stephen King, Lev Grossman, Charlaine Harris, and more. However, at that time, Bardugo was primarily known for her work as the author of the Grishaverse novels like Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows, books marketed as young adult novels.

Maisie Williams had a recurring role throughout season 9 of Doctor Who, appearing in a handful of episodes to help progress the Doctor’s journey and answer some of the story’s most burning questions. Williams had previously gathered attention for her widely-acclaimed performance in HBO’s Game of Thrones, where she played Arya Stark - one of the many Stark siblings that fought against political tyranny in the fantasy land of Westeros. The show was a huge success across the entire world, and it was this popularity that led to Williams landing a recurring guest role on Doctor Who.

Despite its 35-year history, the Ghostbusters franchise only boasts three feature films to its name. Why the meagre cinematic output? Well, Ghostbusters III – which was known as Ghostbusters in Hell, Hellbent, New Blood, The Best and the Brightest, and Alive Again at various points of the scripting stage – was (fittingly enough) trapped in development hell for decades.

And Goodnight: Levitas’ Debut Works Too Hard for Genuine Catharsis
Headlined by one of those casts that seems too good to be true, actor Andrew Levitas (HellBent; Beauty Shop) makes his screenwriting and directorial debut with the heartfelt Lullaby. But this is one melancholic little ditty that has a few too many extra verses, a bit of overreach rendering it emotionally ineffective. Overwrought when it should be meditative, distending to ungainly subplots when it should be reigning in its central familial unit, only a kernel of the dramatic potential remains. However, there’s nary a moment where we’re persuaded to feel much of anything for the privileged members of this bruised brood, and so it becomes a standard indie drama that has more potential as an agenda driven message film than the emotionally complex examination of its troubled protagonist that it should be, especially considering this was inspired by the director’s personal experiences.

Hotel Arthritis - Somebody is killing Old People!
Veteran star-studded film “crosses the line” in all the right ways, pushes into controversial territory of what is wrong and funny
It's not often that one is able to see a collection of iconic stars in such a different light, but Hotel Arthritis provides just that opportunity. The film finds ways to “push the boundaries” of what is wrong and what is funny by meshing the bizarre with the fun, the old with the young, and the comedy with its horror.

Check out the official trailer for Jason Lockhart’s upcoming Hotel Arthritis movie. It is not often that one is able to see a collection of iconic stars in such a different light, but Hotel Arthritis provides just that opportunity. The film finds ways to “push the boundaries” of what is wrong and what is funny by meshing the bizarre with the fun, the old with the young, and the comedy with its horror.
Hotel Arthritis is a comedy/horror ready for its cult audience about a group of retirement home residents living in fear of a masked killer who stalks the halls of their creepy home.
“The colorful characters are what drives the film in this story. We’re meant to laugh with them and at them, both through their daily routines and alongside their nightmares.”
says director, Jason Lockhart.

Mark Bessenger Hey horror fans. Remember how we've all been complaining about an array of lifeless horror film remakes and bland horror film concepts? So when something comes along that tries to give us something different, something edgy, we should be out there supporting it, right? ....Well Bite Marks starring Windham Beacham, Benjamin Lutz, David Alanson and Stephen Geoffreys, is that film! Bite Marks deals with a truck driver and a gay couple who must fight off a pack of blood thirsty vampires after their truck breaks down in the middle of a lumber yard and it turns out their cargo is a coffin carrying vamps. What makes Bite Marks different is its humor, the way that its characters develop, the merger of horror/comedy/gay indie film, etc. You're probably saying to yourself though "but that's the gay vampire film?". Gay, straight, black, white, low budget, big budget -...

Jason Lockhart "Happy Birthday" is the highly suspenseful tale of the supernatural written by up and coming star Jason Lockhart. In addition Jason Lockhart will be starring in the film. Jason Lockhart seems poised to score a breakout role in either "Vampire Boys" which incorporates elements involving vampires and mixes that that with a story about coming out. He will also appear in the short film "Mine" which has been described by the film's director as a take on "Duel meets No Country For Old Men".
"Happy Birthday" is a ghost story that focuses on two couples. Their day of celebration comes to a screeching halt when these intoxicated twenty-somethings encounter a psychic and her horrifying prophecy of what's soon to come. This medium, this psychic has seen something that terrifies her. And one of these hard partying kids, will not even survive the night!

One of the nice things about being a gay horror filmmaker is, after you hang around awhile, you realize you’re part of a nice little club. And eventually, it feels like you all know each other.
I first met Jeffrey Reddick at a cast and crew screening of one of my films. Paul (Hellbent) Etheredge-Ouzts brought his friend “Jeffrey” to the screening, and we chit-chatted a bit afterward. On the way home my brain added up all the stuff we talked about, and suddenly it clicked—Was that the writer of Final Destination?
Since then we’ve become friends and, in the grand tradition of Hollywood, mainly see each other at screenings and conventions. He’s a busy guy, and kinda sorta has that career that many of us indie flick filmmakers dream of—access to the people who make it happen, and big(ger) budgets.
