Here’s a first look at the new trailer and poster for Cheatin,’ the award-winning, surreal animated adult tale of love, jealousy, revenge, and murder.
Inspired by the work of James M. Cain (“Double Indemnity”, “The Postman Always Rings Twice”), Cheatin’ marks Academy Award nominated Bill Plympton’s seventh animated feature film.
The film screened at the St. Louis International Film Festival in November 2014. In his Sliff review, Jim Batts called the film, “a wonderful, imaginative featuree animated film,” adding Plympton is, “at the zenith of his artistic powers here, with a long-form film that captures all of the charm of his quirky shorts.”
In a fateful bumper car collision, Jake and Ella meet and become the most loving couple in the long history of Romance.
But when a scheming “other” woman drives a wedge of jealousy into their perfect courtship, insecurity spells out an untimely fate.

Bill Plympton is one of the most creative and prolific artists to emerge out of the independent animation shorts film arena of the late 1980′s. His short Your Face was nominated for an Academy Award and follow-up shorts like How To Kiss and How To Quit Smoking became the highlights of several traveling animation compilations and festivals. He soon branched out into feature films with The Tune and set up a New York animation studio to produce commercials and music videos along with more features and shorts. Recently Plympton has helmed several live action features. He’s here in St. Louis to accept the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 20th Annual Stella Artois St. Louis International Film Festival. Mr. Plympton was kind enough to take time out of his busy schedule to speak with me by phone.

We couldn't be happier that director Joe Carnahan has gotten a green light to start production next week on The Grey, a thriller that stars Liam Neeson, and we also are liking the actors that have filled out his cast. With the lack of female names, could this be the next The Thing?
Per Deadline New York Neeson will be joined on the shoot by Dallas Roberts (Tell Tale, Joshua, "Rubicon"), James Badge Dale ("24", "Rubicon"), Dermot Mulroney (Zodiac, Hair High), Frank Grillo (Mother's Day, My Soul to Take), Nonso Anozie (RocknRolla, "Prime Suspect: The Final Act"), and Joe Anderson (The Crazies, The Ruins). They play oil-rig roughnecks left stranded by a plane crash right in the hunting zone of a pack of rogue wolves on the frozen Alaskan tundra.

Independent animator Bill Plympton has been bringing his unique, off-kilter comedic sensibilities to the screen for a few decades now, and several years back, he ventured into genre territory with the feature Hair High. Yet the film hasn’t managed to break out past the festival/limited-release circuit—until now; Fango got the scoop that it’ll finally hit DVD this summer.

It’s 2009 and I’m more than a little jazzed to be writing about the Toronto After Dark Film Festival….again. See, Tadff (running from August 14th to 21st at The Bloor Cinema) is a kind of local little engine that could, a collection of international weird cinema curated by Adam Lopez and his crack team of programmers that is now in its fourth year - no mean feat in Toronto seeing as there are over 100 film festivals in this city at any given time and most of them go tits up after their first year.
But Lopez and his merry band of movie minded miscreants are tireless crusaders for creepy, strange and subversive celluloid. Last year, the lads showcased Let The Right One In and Repo! The Genetc Opera, two films that meant a lot to me.

Plympton's 'Angels' has wings at ED
CANNES -- France-based ED Distribution will co-finance and handle French theatrical duties on Oscar-nominated animator Bill Plympton's next feature, Angels and Idiots. Writer-director Plympton (I Married a Strange Person), whose feature Hair High is up for sale at the Festival de Cannes, will be coloring and editing his hand-drawn work by computer for the first time. The dark, surreal Angels focuses on a man who repeatedly wakes up with wings and tries to get rid of them. Production just began on the $100,000 feature, which is slated for completion in a year. But ED's Fabrice Leroy said the company can wait for the acclaimed director's work. "Sometimes he can deliver the film a year late, but that's OK," Leroy said. "We want him to feel free to achieve the movie he wants to do."...

- Bill Plympton is a crazy genius, and that statement has never ringed more true than after watching his latest full-length magnum opus Hair High (only just recently released here, I believe). You either love him or you’re annoyed by him, and both for the same reasons; his animation style is slow paced, absurd, twisted and gross. You either get his sense of humor or you don’t. Or maybe you just need to be in that special mood to watch one of his little fares. Either way you’re in for a roller coaster ride you might wish you could get off of but can’t. So just sit back and enjoy the ride. It’s alive!! It’S Aliiiiive!!!!! Set in the 1950s, Hair High tells the story of Bud, a teenage outcast new to his high school who quickly becomes the slave of Sherri, the school queen,
