Sony Pictures (with some help from the film's leading men) have announced a Christmas 2025 release date for their upcoming Anaconda reboot, which may officially be titled The Anaconda.

Fan-favorites Jack Black (Kung Fu Panda 4; Tropic Thunder; School of Rock) and Paul Rudd ( Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania; Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire; Avengers: Endgame) have been enlisted to headline the feature, with Daniela Melchior (Fast X; Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3; The Suicide Squad) co-starring. Paul Rudd and Jack Black are teaming up for a new version of the campy 1997 cult classic Anaconda for Sony Pictures, and to announce the release date, the pair made a hilarious video together (below). In the short clip, Black promises, "There's gonna be a big f**kin' snake, and it's gonna rip." Two comic legends and this description should be more than enough to put butts in seats come Christmas Day 2025, when the movie will hit theaters.

The streamer will also add some films with sequels arriving in theaters this month, like Sonic the Hedgehog (2020) and Ridley Scott’s 1992 film Gladiator.

While we could make a clever joke about the seemingly endless cycle of reboots, remakes and legacy sequels being somewhat akin to a snake eating its own tail, there’ll certainly be plenty of folks out there that that wish that there had been more Anaconda films, despite the series’ slide into made-for-television ignominy.

Prepare yourself to be regurgitated by a giant snake all over again! Paul Rudd and Jack Black are in early talks to star in a new Anaconda movie based on the 1997 adventure horror starring Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, and Jon Voight. However, it appears that there will be something of a meta twist with this project.

According to sources, “the new story involves a group of friends facing mid-life crises who are remaking their favorite movie from their youth. They head to the rainforest only to find themselves into a fight for their lives against natural disasters, giant snakes and violent criminals.” As for who Jack Black and Paul Rudd could be playing in the Anaconda movie, details are sparse, but sources mention two characters: a director stuck in his job as a wedding videographer and an actor who once did a stint on a police procedural who now sees his Hollywood dreams slipping away.

Before the streaming wars reinvented cable yet somehow made it worse, television series didn't need to be ratings giants to enjoy a long life. In point of fact, shows that attracted a consistent audience tended to survive long after whatever pristine new series executives had counted on becoming their next breadwinner inevitably faltered partway into its soon-to-be-short-lived run. (My sympathies to "Terra Nova.")

"Bones" was one such series for Fox. Despite the network's baffling efforts to sink Hart Hanson's modest procedural dramedy, the show was quick to draw a loyal crowd that followed it anywhere Fox thought to move it (even the dreaded Friday night "death slot"). In fact, the series actually peaked in terms of immediate viewership after just 11 episodes (out of 246!) with season 1's "The Woman in the Car," which aired on February 1, 2006, to an audience of roughly 12.64 million viewers and double the number of eyeballs. Anaconda has been remade in China, and an official trailer has been released for the horror film.

Per Bloody Disgusting, the Chinese Anaconda remake comes from co-directors Xiang Qui Liang and Xiang He Sheng. Like the original film from 1997, the new Anaconda tells the story of a group of humans falling prey to the world's largest snake. The trailer, which can be watched below, also features plenty of tense moments of unfortunate victims getting crushed and/or devoured by the snake.

Here's something you probably didn't expect to see today: A trailer for a Chinese remake of the '90s horror B-movie classic "Anaconda." Yes, really. And, to be perfectly honest, you're probably not prepared for just how bonkers this thing looks. Of course the original movie is pretty bonkers on its own, but this is taking things to another level. Before we discuss this further, it's probably best you watch this insanity for yourself. Check it out above.

So yeah ... much to discuss, much to process. First and foremost, the broad beats of the plot appear to be in line with the original film, with some extra stuff thrown in there. Most notably, there appears to be a lot more giant snake action. The original "Anaconda" had an animatronic snake that was very tough to work with, which limited director Luis Llosa a bit. Here? It's just lots of pretty decent CGI craziness.

It’s blockbuster season and Amazon Prime is celebrating by bringing a major action film to its stream.

That’s right, Amazon Prime’s list of new releases for July 2021 is highlighted by none other than The Tomorrow War on July 2. The year is 2051 and mankind is locked in a vicious war against an alien species. Our only hope is to go back in time and find…Chris Pratt. Ok, perhaps that’s a little reductive of the film’s plot. Future humanity also comes back to bring Sam Richardson to the future.

In terms of originals, there isn’t much else to speak of on Amazon Prime this month. The only other major release is The Pursuit of Love on July 30. This BBC series is directed by Emily Mortimer and takes place during the WWII era and follows two cousins as they navigate their lives. Lily James and Andrew Scott star.

Hulu’s list of new releases for June 2021 is highlighted by a host of useful library titles and one fascinating original film.

The original film in question is the one that lends its delightful photo of Pierce Brosnan delivering a baby to this post. False Positive stars and was written by Ilana Glazer (Broad City). It sounds like a really fun, creepy time with a synopsis that reads: “After months of trying and failing to get pregnant, Lucy (Glazer) and Adrian (Justin Theroux) finally find their dream fertility doctor in the illustrious Dr. Hindle (Pierce Brosnan). But after becoming pregnant with a healthy baby girl, Lucy begins to notice something sinister through Hindle’s gleaming charm, and she sets out to uncover the unsettling truth about him, and her own “birth story.” Cool!

Hulu’s other original offerings aren’t too inspiring this month. Only Love, Victor season 2 on June 11 moves the needle much.

Composer, orchestrator and conductor Nerida Tyson-Chew will receive the 2020 Distinguished Services to the Australian Screen Award at the Screen Music Awards in December.

The prize, presented by the Apra Amcos board of directors, will recognise Tyson-Chew’s 35 year career, blazing a path for female composers, and her diverse and extensive portfolio of work, spanning feature films, television dramas, children’s productions, documentaries and wildlife films.

Tyson-Chew’s recent credits include H is for Happiness, for which she is currently nominated for an Aacta, as well as the BAFTA-nominated animated series The Deep, Rescue – Special Ops, Batman – The Animated Series and Taboo.

Other projects include 2004 blockbuster Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid, children’s series Tracey McBean and 1995’s Hotel Sorrento, which won her an AFI Award.

One of the most memorable and star-studded creature features of the ’90s, Anaconda is being reimagined at Columbia Pictures.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Evan Daugherty (writer of Killing Season and co-writer of 2014's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and 2012's Snow White and the Huntsman) has been hired to write a screenplay for an "an all-new and all-modern take" on Anaconda.

While plot details have yet to be unveiled, THR reveals that the studio is "hoping to take a Meg-style approach" to the reimagining. According to Box Office Mojo, the 2018 colossal shark movie brought in more than $530 million worldwide on an estimated $130 million production budget. A producer and director have not been announced for the new Anaconda film at this time.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Columbia Pictures has ordered a reboot of 1997's monster horror hit Anaconda. Evan Daugherty, writer of Tomb Raider and Snow White and the Hunstman, is attached to write the film. No director, producer, or release date has been assigned yet.

Anaconda was critically panned when it was first released in 1997 but soon became a cult classic. The original actually featured a pretty impressive cast including Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, Erik Stoltz, Danny Trejo, and Owen Wilson. The film followed a documentary crew in South America attempting to shoot a story about a long-lost indigenous tribe along the Amazon.

You read that right! After years of lying dormant, the serpent-fueled horror series is coming back to the big screen. As reported by Bloody Disgusting, Columbia Pictures is looking to revive the Anaconda franchise, which, if we’re being completely honest, hasn’t exactly stood the test of time. The ’90s were filled with plenty of forgettable horror movies, and the original 1997 film is certainly no exception.

Unfortunately, details are rather scarce at the moment, but it looks like Columbia Pictures is bringing Evan Daugherty on board to pen the script. The killer snake will strike again!

A new reboot of the 1997 horror film Anaconda is being developed by Sony’s Columbia Pictures, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter.

While not much is known about the new film as of yet, writer Evan Daugherty, who worked on Snow White and the Huntsman as well as the 2018 reboot of Tomb Raider, will write the script, the outlet reports.

Sources told THR that the reboot will be a reimagining of the cult classic, which the studio hopes will be similar to the 2018 campy shark film The Meg, which raked in over $530 million at the box office.

Sony Pictures is in early development of a reboot of the “Anaconda” franchise, hiring “Divergent” writer Evan Daugherty to write the project.

The studio has not set up the project with a producer, director or actors.

Sony released the original “Anaconda” in 1997 as a horror thriller starring Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, Eric Stoltz and Owen Wilson. Directed by Luis Llosa, the plot centered on Lopez’ character heading a documentary film crew looking for a long-lost tribe along the Amazon River, only to see the expedition taken over by a nefarious snake hunter, played by Voight, leading to several horrific encounters with a massive green serpent.

“Anaconda” was a success with a worldwide gross of $135 million on a $45 million budget. That led to a 2004 sequel “Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid,” set in Borneo, as the protagonists sought a life-extending flower on a remote island inhabited by deadly snakes.

The Meg's success has got some people wondering if there's gas in the oversized snake tank.

Resident Evil franchise masterminds Constantin Film and Jb Pictures have got a Titanoboa movie in development. The movie is looking to The Meg for inspiration as it plans to feature the giant extinct snake coming back from the dead somehow to wreak havoc, likely on some wholly unprepared humans.

The Titanoboa movie is being fast-tracked, according to Deadline, and will begin filming next year. There are no cast details to share with you yet, but Tony Giglio is penning the script right now. Jeremy Bolt and Robert Kulzer, the team working to make Monster Hunter a success, are behind the film.

Hulu has confirmed that several of its original series will be debuting new episodes on the streaming service in October, including the first installment of the horror anthology “Into the Dark” as well as more of season 1 of the Sean Penn drama “The First.” And there will also be new to Hulu seasons of some of your favorites reality shows from other networks, including various editions of “Little Women” and “The Real Housewives.”

Likewise, there will be plenty of movies making their first Hulu appearances including the Oscar-winning “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” and “Raging Bull.”

Hulu is blessed to have a name that sounds roughly enough like "Hallow." That means it's basically honor-bound to bring the heat for Halloween. Thankfully for the October 2018 new releases, Hulu is bringing us the spookies that we need. The Blair Witch Project, The Others, and Child's Play all arrive this month. And if you're looking for some more wholesome creepies, The Nightmare Before Christmas should do. And if that weren't enough, Hulu is debuting its own horror show - anthology series Into the Dark.

For those shamefully unable to get into the Halloween spirit, Hulu is bringing in some other fun film options. Galaxy Quest, Music and Lyrics, and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective should help out with that.

Then of course, are the usual and typically deep TV offerings.

The Lake Placid and Anaconda franchises are set to collide in the upcoming feature Lake Placid Vs. Anaconda. Production is slated to begin this December in Bulgaria, although it isn't known who is writing, directing or starring in this direct-to-video release.

No story details have been confirmed, although the vicious crocodiles of Lake Placid will undoubtedly come in contact with a gigantic Anaconda, and they will have an epic water battle unlike anything seen before.

The Anaconda franchise was launched in 1997 with a theatrical feature that starred Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube and Jon Voight. It spanwned the straight-to-video sequels Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid (2004), Anaconda 3: The Offspring (2006) and Anaconda 4: Trail of Blood (2009).

1999's Lake Placid was also a theatrical offering, starring Bill Pullman, Bridget Fonda and Oliver Platt, before spawning the straight-to video sequels Lake Placid 2 (2007), Lake Placid 3 (2010) and last year's Lake Placid: The Final Chapter.

For some reason Anchor Bay Films acquired the the U.S. and Australia/New Zealand distribution rights to the awful looking new video game based film Tekkan. 

Tekken was written by Alan McElroy and directed by Dwight Little. Anchor Bay plans on giving this film a wide release in the United States in 2011.

I'm shocked this movie got picked up! I know it's based on a popular video game, but the film looks so bad. When I see a movie like this get picked up, it just proves anything can get a distribution deal.

The film is set in a world run by all-powerful corporations, of which the mightiest is the Tekken Corporation, headed by Heiachi Mishima. These corporations regularly send their best fighters to challenge each other in the ring. With Resident Evil: Afterlife showing studios that there is still a profit to be made in video game adaptations, Anchor Bay has acquired the U.S. and Australia/New Zealand distribution rights to the Tekken movie from Crystal Sky Pictures.

Based on Namco’s best-selling video game franchise, the movie was directed by Dwight Little (Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid) from Alan McElroy’s screenplay. With a 2011 release scheduled, Anchor Bay Entertainment President commented:

A Young Man Who seeks revenge of his mothers death. He finds his grand-father, Heihachi Mishima, and pleas to be trained. When the Mishima leader announces a “King of Iron Fist” tournament. Wait, when did this get a release date? ComicBookMovie.com (via SlashFilm) has uncovered a new official poster for the Dwight Little directed Tekken movie, starring Jon Foo as Jin Kazama, based on the popular video game. We actually featured the trailer back in January, so we knew this was going to arrive sometime this year, but the poster clearly states: "The Battle Begins Aug 5". So I am assuming this is going to hit theaters? Hopefully not straight-to-dvd, right?
