Updated with cause of death: Silvio Horta, who created the ABC comedy Ugly Betty and shared its 2007 Emmy nom for Outstanding Comedy Series, was found dead Tuesday at a hotel in his native Miami, and today the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner ruled that Horta died by suicide. He was 45.
Horta created the U.S. version of Ugly Betty, which starred America Ferrera and aired more than 80 episodes over four seasons from 2006-10. Ferrera won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for playing Betty Suarez, a smart, sweet-natured and wholesome Mexican-American from Queens who lands a job at a trendy fashion magazine in Manhattan. Betty embraced her unique appearance — including bangs, heavy-rimmed glasses and train-track braces — and independent attitude in the cutthroat world of New York fashion.
Eric Mabius, Tony Plana, Ana Ortiz, Becki Newton, Michael Urie, Mark Indelicato and Vanessa Williams also were series regulars for the show’s entire run.

Fox is taking another pass at a series inspired by the life of famed choreographer and creative director Laurieann Gibson.
The one-hour series, previously entitled “8 Count,” will now be called “Move.” Silvio Horta has come onboard as a writer and executive producer. It is described as a music-fueled dramedy that follows an accomplished choreographer who, in order to redeem her damaged reputation in the cutthroat music/dance world, sets her sights on creating a flawless tour for a diva pop singer. To get the coveted gig, though, she’ll have to fend off competition from her arch rival, who happens to be her former assistant. At the same time, she must act as mother hen to her talented, but often difficult, team of dancers who depend on her.
Fox has given the project a script commitment with a penalty attached. The Jackal Group’s Gail Berman and Joe Earley will...

A look at the pre-Grimm work of co-creators David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf, a screenwriting partnership that’s lasted over thirty years…
A poker table in the late seventies, a bathroom in the mid-noughties… television shows have many birthplaces. Had screenwriters David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf not been introduced at a card game over thirty years ago, and had producer Todd Milliner not taken a 2006 shower in which he pondered what existing stories were in need of a modern update for TV, then Grimm might never have existed.
First, that poker game. Greenwalt and Kouf’s friendship began a couple of years before their first official screenwriting credit on 1982’s horror spoof Wacko, a job for which the pair were paid the princely sum of fifteen thousand dollars…

Are you a fan of USA Network’s “Covert Affairs.” If so, then you’re definitely in luck. According to the cable channel, the spy series is coming back for another season. Since the show was pretty popular over the summer, USA recently ordered 16 more episodes. Like I said, it’s certainly good news if you love the series. Piper Perabo stars as CIA agent Annie Walker on the popular drama. Former “Jake 2.0″ star Christopher Gorham plays blind technician Auggie Anderson, a guy who doesn’t hesitate to help the lass with her countless covert adventures. USA Network President Chris McCumber was so excited about the renewal that he said this: No other series on television travels the globe to tell a story like ‘Covert Affairs,’ and we are pleased to bring it back for another season. With its intricate storytelling, diverse characters and authentic locations, the series continues...

How do you make a tough-guy secret agent even cooler? In "Intelligence," CBS did it by sticking a special computer chip in Josh Holloway's ("Lost") head and turning him loose on the world.
For those viewers out there who think this is another version of "Chuck" or even "Jake 2.0," that's not exactly the case. "Intelligence" tells the story of the guy who was supposed to get the human-enhancing technology in the government programs underlying those shows. Holloway's character, Gabriel, isn't a geek or a computer nerd -- he's a special forces-trained, heroic type who just has a little extra edge now.
His edge looks pretty cool too. The chip in the character's brain allows access to pretty much everything on the Internet or computers. And that's essentially everything these days. Using that information -- and sometimes even controlling it -- Holloway and his Clockwork team thwart a whole bunch of bad guys.

I’m a huge fan of the USA network, their slew of “Summer shows” are always a great mix of action and comedy – be it Psych, Burn Notice, Suits, White Collar or Covert Affairs, there’s always something interesting about the programmes they commission and many make the transition to the UK via one of the many satellite channels available. Dave had a huge hit with Suits, FX score big with Burn Notice and Really (one of the more obscure channels) managed to create a splash with Covert Affairs. After the huge success of season one, spy series Covert Affairs returns on DVD for a second season.

USA's hot property Covert Affairs is returning on November 1st, and I have a very special "Jet Setter Pack" giveaway to celebrate. The series left off in pretty tricky circumstances at the end of the summer, and we kick things of with "Wake Up Bomb," an episode that changes things up a bit for Annie.
As I'm sure you know, Annie's hopes of having a normal life (and speaking to her sister) went out the window when last we saw her, at least for the immediate future, and Annie has to move on to a degree. It's tricky situations all around now, as Annie's latest assignment doesn't seem to go too well.
Make sure you tune in, because not only is this a great episode, but there are interesting things in store right around the corner... including more focus on Auggie.
Check out more info below, including some clips, and be sure to enter!

Oh my God.
That's what I uttered as the bodies and plot twists kept piling up during “Emily Lake” and "Stand." I’m almost at a loss of where to begin because I’m still trying to process all of it.
I’m really left wondering about Steve and where he lands in all this now that he’s supposedly dead because both Claudia and Artie seem to have some sort of plan to bring him back. I’m just wary of the repercussions and what that means for everyone involved seeing as it’s a very big and game changing thing to do on Warehouse 13, bringing someone back from the beyond.
What are the potential consequences for using an artifact in that manner?
Continuing on with Steve, I knew something terribly wrong was about to happen when Claudia revealed his true allegiances, Placebo’s Running Up That Hill...

Exclusive: Just when we thought the trend of comedies based on blogs and Twitter feeds was cooling off, it’s back! Fox has tapped Ugly Betty creator Silvio Horta to develop a half-hour comedy based on the infamous blog Texts From Last Night. Happy Madison and Sony Pictures TV are producing. Fox has been high on the Web property. The network, Happy Madison and Sony TV first took a stab at developing a comedy based on the Web site two seasons ago with Steve Holland as the writer. Last season, it was redeveloped with different writers, Marc Abrams and Michael Benson. Now a new take will be written by Horta, who had been looking to branch out into half-hour comedies after creating 2 sci-fi dramas, The Chronicle and Jake 2.0 and a dramedy, ABC’s Ugly Betty. The user-generated Tfnl blog posts “regrettable,” often embarrassing text messages usually sent late at...

More Latino TV? Q&A With Showrunner Silvio Horta Ugly Betty developer/executive producer Silvio Horta is returning to active TV duty. After fielding interest from several studios, Horta has signed a two-year, seven-figure overall deal with Sony Pictures Television. After Ugly Betty ended its four-season run on ABC in the spring of 2010, "I took big chunk of time off," Horta said. "I wanted to decompress for a while and started working on things of my own, wrote a feature spec." Now he is back just in time for the upcoming development season and is already zeroing in on a couple of projects. One is a show at Fox about three sisters in Miami, the city where Horta was born and raised, with interconnected love lives. Also like Horta, the sisters are Cuban-American. Jennifer Lopez, who has an existing relationship with Fox via American Idol, may come on board as a producer.

Lots of action over at Fox. New Girl with Zooey Deschanel is picked up to series, as is Alcatraz from Jj Abrams and Bones spinoff The Finder. They also canceled Human Target, Chicago Code, and Breaking In, which I was enjoying. And now Lie To Me is gone. I haven’t read the sides for the new Fox shows yet, but nothing gay pops out at me.
There’s also unofficial news that NBC has renewed Harry’s Law (which had the transgender storyline this year), canceled Law & Order: La, and picked up Wonder Woman to series.
Meanwhile, odds are running 50/50 on Happy Endings getting another season, which makes me sad.

They really do believe in this country and believe in what they're doing, and are doing it for what...

It has been a decade since Matt Czuchry filmed his first substantial role—on "Dawson's Creek's" sudsy summertime spinoff "Young Americans." But that wide-eyed 20-something might have had a hard time recognizing the actor he is today. "Each job really mirrors where you are in your life," Czuchry says. "['Young Americans'] was one of my first jobs after moving to Los Angeles, and it was incredibly exciting because that was the first time I had about five or six episodes in a row. I was doing something that I loved and getting paid for it at a young age." Less than four years after his multiseason arc as wealthy charmer Logan Huntzberger on "Gilmore Girls," the 33-year-old actor has moved on to something decidedly more grown-up: "The Good Wife." As the young, ambitious lawyer Cary Agos—ousted from the law firm Stern, Lockhart & Gardner and playing a pivotal role in the...

A quick review of tonight's "Covert Affairs" coming up just as soon as you rate this blog for enjoyment on a scale of 1 to 8... Christopher Gorham has been very likable on a lot of TV shows I didn't much like ("Popular," "Out of Practice," "Medical Investigation") or that I quickly lost interest in ("Ugly Betty," "Jake 2.0"), so I've been pleased to see him playing a central role on a show I quite enjoy, even on the superficial level "Covert Affairs" is working for me so far. But Gorham's big shirtless spotlight episode didn't do a whole lot for...

Auggie Anderson — the girl-crazy CIA agent on USA's new spy-games hit Covert Affairs (Tuesdays, 10/9c, USA)— may be blind, but TV fans sure have gotten an eyeful of the actor who plays him. In the past six years, Christopher Gorham has starred in as many series — some successful, some not so much. He was the titular human computer in Jake 2.0, the black sheep in a family of docs in the short-lived sitcom Out of Practice, a young M.D. in Medical Investigation and the secret killer on Harper's Island. But most famously, he romanced one Betty Suarez ...

I’ve long been a Chris Gorham fan, even though I’m not particularly sure why. I mean even back as far as Popular and Odyssey 5, two shows I didn’t actually like, but for some reason liked Chris in (we’re tight like that). I didn’t love Jake 2.0, or Medical Investigation either, and thus the story just keeps getting stranger. I can’t think of another actor that I equally look forward to, who has never been on a show that I particularly enjoyed.
Although, despite critical and ratings difficulties, I did rather enjoy the goofball antics of Harper’s Island. Well, until we found out the real story, and things got downright silly (the pretty obvious secret to the show is that the killer is the only person the show never tried to convince me might be the killer).

I hope you’re still having fun with Covert Affairs, and I have another Q & A for you. This time, with Chris Gorham who plays Auggie.
I was a bit hesitant about this show after the pilot, largely because I wasn’t sure it was exactly clear which directions it was going to aim in a variety of ways. I’m pretty happy with it so far, and stay tuned, because in the next day or two I will have a preview review of the next episode, which focuses a good deal on Auggie.
Chris talked a lot about his character, past shows, and even Twitter. I hope you enjoy. Afterward, check out the preview for that episode, along with a couple of images.
By the way, very recently heard reports that the show has been renewed.
What can you tell us about Auggie and what it’s like bringing him to life?...

On Thursday, Aug. 19, Christopher Gorham got a late birthday present -- he was born Aug. 14 -- when USA Network renewed his freshman spy-caper drama "Covert Affairs."
"I got an email from one of our producers," he tells Zap2it, calling in from the show's Toronto location. "If I'd been on Twitter [as @Chris_Gorham], I'm sure I would have found out first through there, because that's where I usually find out the information on our ratings, before I hear from the producers or the network."
A veteran of several primetime shows -- including "Popular," Odyssey 5," "Jake 2.0," "Medical Investigation," "Out of Practice," "Harper's Island" and "Ugly Betty" -- Gorham has a theory why his latest show was picked up after only having premiered on July 13.
"The show has been reviewed so well, first of all, that even before we aired, we had value for the network," he says. "Because we backed it...

We've always been fans of Christopher Gorham since his "Jake 2.0," "Ugly Betty" and yes, even "Harper's Island" days, but "Covert Affairs" might be his best work yet.
With Tuesday's (Aug. 18) episode "Houses of the Holy," we're getting more and more drawn into the character that is Auggie Anderson, who steals the show from the admittedly charismatic Annie Walker (Piper Perabo).
What's intriguing is that his blindness, which was sustained while in Iraq, isn't the issue. That is, it's not his lack of sight that makes him interesting (although it leads to good lines), rather the other things that he's given up: working in the field, the camaraderie of his old unit and yes, even a woman.
It's heartbreaking yet heartwarming to see Auggie interact with his old chums, if only through technology, but it's his relationship with women that's got us eager to see next week's episode.

It's not like this snuck up on us.
Chris Gorham, a TV mainstay since his days on "Popular" and "Jake 2.0," has never really been the geek he's always cast as. But for over a decade he's been relegated to the male equivalent of Rachael Leigh Cook in "She's All That," shoddily disguising his blatant sex appeal with glasses and conservative button-ups.
No more! With "Covert Affairs," Chris Gorham is finally getting showcased for the handsome, handsome thing he is. And in the upcoming August 24 episode, "Communication Breakdown," you'll get to see him in all his glory -- or at least as much as basic cable can allow.
We present a before and after:
What you see to your left is the old, dweeby Gorham (considerable biceps still exposed, mind you) in 2000's "The Other Side of Heaven." And on the right: Naked, blind Gorham on the "Covert Affairs" episode in question,...

The summer is now fully here, and with it comes a new batch of summer TV shows –now that networks and cable alike have switched to a varied, year-round schedule that confuses even the professionals in the industry. Among them there are vampires, cops, families trying to fit in and many, many secrets. Of these new summer offerings, almost all of them have already aired –the only exception is Showtime’s The Big C, a show about cancer with Laura Linney that arrives August 16); some have even aired several episodes, so they can barely be called “new”, and some of their plots might have evolved. But I have tried to watch all those series’ pilots to find out what is good, what is bad, what is promising and what might stay or leave soon. Here it is:
(I recently updated this post, but there are still a few shows missing.

Yesterday saw the official announcement of the line-up for the London Film4 FrightFest 2010 and whilst the FrightFest gang had already announced Hatchet II, The Last Exorcism, Eggshells, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and we exclusively revealed the appearance of Burning Bright, and Red White & Blue at this years festival, there was still some surprises amongst the bunch.
So after reading up on each movie that is due to play the festival I thought it would be a good idea to breakdown just which movies I’m looking forward to seeing, and which ones I’m not… As always let me know your thoughts in the comments!
Highlights:
The real highlights for me this year include Simon Rumley’s Red White & Blue, the infamous A Serbian Film – which should test the FrightFest audiences metal! Of course I’m looking forward to Hatchet II – since when has Adam Green ever let FrightFest down?...

For some reason, no one has given Emmanuelle Vaugier her own TV series yet, though she did flirted with one on the Sci-Fi Channel a few years back that never went anywhere. Fortunately for fans of the “House of the Dead 2″ star, plenty of TV producers have cast her as a semi-regular on plenty of TV shows, including “CSI: New York”, “Human Target”, and now, “Covert Affairs”. In USA Network’s breezy new spy show “Covert Affairs”, Vaugier will play a character described as a “fearless journalist/blogger”, which could basically be anything. She’ll be starring opposite Piper Perabo, playing a CIA agent trainee who gets promoted to the big time when the CIA brass wants to use her to capture her ex-boyfriend. Also in the cast: former “Heroes” star Sendhil Ramamurthy, and “Jake 2.0.” himself, Christopher Gorham. The show, currently shooting in Toronto, is set to debut...

We told you a bit about USA’s new Covert Affairs recently when the network announced its upcoming premiere dates for new and returning programs. However, at the time we didn’t have much to go on about the show except a very brief description and a list of some of the cast.
Now, thanks to the folks at USA, we can bring you a new teaser for the show that actually gives a lot more clues as to what its about and features star Piper Perabo doing some pretty convincing action scenes. But before you watch the teaser and see her in action, here’s what USA says about the show’s plot. Yes, plot is important too.

Now that the traditional TV season of starting shows in the Fall and then having to watch reruns all Summer is pretty much gone for good, networks are debuting new shows and bringin back old ones pretty much anytime of the year. "Ugly Betty" actor Christopher Gorham is the latest to climb up on "The Ledge."
He joins Charlie Hunnam, Terrence Howard, Liv Tyler and Patrick Wilson in writer-director Matthew Chapman's suspense thriller. The film tells the story of a man (Hunnam) standing on a high-rise ledge who insists he must jump by noon as the policeman below (Howard) tries to manage the situation. Gorham will play the distraught man's roommate, a television editor.
Michael Mailer ("Loverboy") and Foresight Unlimited's Mark Damon ("Monster") are producing the film, which began shooting last week in Baton Rouge, La. Howard, Moshe Diamant, Bobby Ranghelov and Tamara Stuparich De La Barra are exec producers.
Gorham, repped by CAA and Hyphenate, next appears in the features "My Girlfriend's Boyfriend," "Trivial Pursuits" and "Somebody's Hero." He also stars opposite Piper Perabo in the USA series "Covert Affairs," which premieres during the summer.

One month, 280 films and 70,000 words later, my guide to the films of 2010 is now complete. I hope you've enjoyed reading it all - it's been utterly exhausting but an ultimately rewarding venture I've been single-handedly pulling together since early December. If you have liked it, my only request is that you help spread the word about it now that it's all done.
If you're a fellow blogger or site owner, please give it a plug on your site. If you're a reader, give it a mention on Facebook, Twitter or other online places you might venture. A lot of effort went into this, the greatest reward so far has been seeing it talked about and hearing your reactions. I'm glad many of you have gotten a lot of use out of the previous pages, so I hope you enjoy this final part:

Opens: 2010

"Ugly Betty," just like its title character, has had to prove itself over and over since its debut in 2006. Viewed as breakout hit in its first season, the show has since suffered at the hands of critics, sagging ratings and a disastrous move to the fabled Friday night death slot.
Silvio Horta, "Ugly Betty's" executive producer, will be the first to admit the show has had growing pains. Cuban-American Horta grew up watching Spanish-language telenovelas, such as "Betty la Fea," the show "Ugly Betty" was adapted from. After penning the screenplay for the box office hit, "Urban Legend," he moved into TV with the brilliant, but canceled series, "The Chronicle" on the then Sci-Fi network, and Upn's "Jake 2.0."
This week, "Ugly Betty" gets another chance to recapture its audience as part of ABC's primetime comedy block on Wednesday nights. We spoke to Horta about the challenges the show...

How creepy was Anne Dudek (aka Amber aka Cutthroat Bitch) in that last episode of House? For a couple of episodes, as she showed up as a figment of House’s imagination, it was a little disturbing, but man, it got really creepy real fast when House realized that Dudek’s character was one figment of his imagination that he can’t get rid of. Like, probably never. Who knows if Amber will be back on House next year, but Dudek will definitely be on another show as a regular: the USA Network’s currently casting Covert Affairs. THR says Dudek will play the sister of lead Piper Perabo’s character. On the show, Perabo will play a highly-trained CIA agent named Annie Walker, who is promoted so the brass at the agency can use her to track down her old boyfriend. Previously, Christopher Gorham of Jake 2.0 fame was...
