It's time to talk about Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice," one of the most enduring novels in English literature. It is a tale so timeless that countless adaptations — both official and not-so-official — have been made, approaching the source material from all sorts of perspectives. Apart from inspiring cinematic adaptations, Austen's novel has also led to a world of associated stories, including Janet Aylmer's bestselling "Darcy's Story" and the more recent "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies," which blends period drama with ultra-violent zombie-horror tropes.
Due to the sheer breadth of adaptations, discerning which one is the "best" can certainly be tricky. For starters there's the mix of faithful adaptations versus those loosely inspired by the 1813 novel, such as the Bollywood-style "Bride & Prejudice" or the Emmy-winning "The Lizzie Bennet Diaries." For the sake of simplicity, let's stick to straightforward adaptations, which firmly situate themselves within the novel's text and...

One of the all-time best Jane Austen books may be getting a new version on Netflix! Over 200 years after her death, the author is as beloved as ever. Generations have grown up on her novels, which were ahead of their time, exploring issues of feminism, class, and some wonderful romances. In just six books, Austen made herself a literary icon who’s influenced countless writers since.
Not surprisingly, adaptations of Austen’s works have been plentiful. There have even been adaptations of her two posthumous novels, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion and her unfinished book Sanditon.
Trying to narrow down the best Austen works is difficult as many will cite Sense and Sensibility, which was adapted into a 1995 film directed by Ang Lee and starring Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet, with Thompson also writing the script, earning her an Oscar. Yet, to many, the topper of Austen’s works is Pride and Prejudice.

Romantic comedies of the 2000s had a unique feel that hasn't been replicated since, thanks to movies like Sex and the City that prioritized witty and absurd rom-coms. Rom-coms provide a relatable and light-hearted perspective on troubled love lives, offering an aspirational fantasy and comedic relief with their outlandish premises. Contemporary rom-coms may have experienced a revival, but they don't capture the same nostalgic feel as the 2000s classics, leaving fans to continue returning to their old favorites.
Romantic comedies have been around for decades, but they enjoyed a boom in the 2000s which can still bring on waves of nostalgia. Genre classics like 50 First Dates and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days follow a tried and tested formula, and they have become great comfort movies which can be viewed over and over again. 2000s romantic comedies had a particular feeling to them that hasn't been replicated since.

Hey, remember when they released that picture of the CGI movie Sonic the Hedgehog and it was so freakish and unnerving that animators had to work overtime to fix it? Anywho, Sonic the Hedgehog is coming to Hulu this month.
The heroic blue hedgehog who just wants to go fast is far from the only exciting new film or TV show coming to Hulu in February 2021. The library titles are unusually packed this month. In addition to Sonic, the sublimely goofy Mars Attacks!, 2020 horror film Possessor, and the first six Star Trek films all arrive on Feb. 1. Later on in the month are Antebellum (Feb. 5) and Nomadland (Feb. 19).

With Emma and Sanditon making waves (seaside resort pun!), we're listing up the best screen adaptations of Jane Austen's work.
It is a truth universally acknowledged that every Jane Austen novel must be adapted an infinite amount of times and we will be grateful for all of them.
There have been a lot of adaptations of Jane Austen's six major novels and some of her other works, including the recently-released Emma starring Anya Taylor-Joy. These are the ones we recommend watching.
Best Pride and Prejudice Adaptations
Easily the most adapted of Jane Austen's works, Pride and Prejudice is a foundational work in the broader romantic comedy genre and in so much of our mainstream storytelling. People tend to have opinions about which of the P&p adaptations are the best. (Who is the best Elizabeth? Who is the best Darcy? Which is the most faithful? Does it matter?...

“Blinded by the Light” opened on August 16, and it lands in an interesting position. Following “Yesterday,” it’s the second film of the summer centering on a young British man of South Asian descent whose life is transformed by the music of a legendary artist. In that case it was The Beatles. In this case it’s Bruce Springsteen. So what do critics think of this latest variation on the theme?
Of course, the films take quite different approaches to the artists that inspired them. “Yesterday” was a speculative film that imagined a world where only one man on Earth remembered the songs of the Beatles, while “Blinded” is a coming-of-age story about a teenager (Viveik Kalra) who just really loves Bruce Springsteen. And the reviews are quite divergent as well. As of this writing “Blinded” has a MetaCritic score of 71 based on 42 reviews counted thus far — 34 positive, 7 mixed, and only 1 negative.

While its cast is full of newcomers for American audiences, its storyline driven by the music of Bruce Springsteen gives the film major breakout potential.
The official synopsis reads: “The film tells the story of Javed (Viveik Kalra), a British teen of Pakistani descent growing up in the town of Luton, England, in 1987. Amidst the racial and economic turmoil of the times, he writes poetry as a means to escape the intolerance of his hometown and the inflexibility of his traditional father. But when a classmate introduces him to the music of Bruce Springsteen, Javed sees parallels to his working-class life in the powerful lyrics. As Javed discovers a cathartic outlet for his own pent-up dreams,...

This might just be the feel-good film of the year. And it's definitely the best British indie musical since Sing Street. The latest film by Gurinder Chadha, titled Blinded by the Light, just premiered at the Sundance Film Festival to a well-earned standing ovation and plenty of cheers. This 1980s rock musical inspired by and integrating the music of Bruce Springsteen, will leave you with that euphoric feeling of wonder and happiness. At least that's how I felt as soon as it ended. This joyful, upbeat, optimistic film is about a Pakistani teen living in a small town in Britain in the 80s who instantly falls in love with Springsteen the moment a friend introduces him to his music. As he struggles with family and racism, he lets the music guide him through adolescence. Set in the late 80s, Blinded by the Light tells the true story ...

Exclusive: A+E Networks format Bride and Prejudice is heading to the UK after Channel 4 commissioned a local version of the relationship series.
The British broadcaster has commissioned a five-part series, based on the show that launched on Fyi in March 2016, from 7 Wonder. The production company was recently acquired by Banijay Group, the international group that owns Keeping Up With The Kardashians producer Bunim Murray.
Bride and Prejudice, which has a similar tone to series such as Married At First Sight, explores what happens when love comes up against a prejudice so strong that it threatens to tear relationships apart. It tells the stories of six soon to be wed couples as they confront a deeply held opposition to their marriage from within their own families, whilst trying to organise their dream weddings. For each couple, there is at least one family member who is dead set against their wedding ever taking place.

Hippie Hippie Shake
Opens: 2010
Cast: Cillian Murphy, Sienna Miller, Max Minghella, Emma Booth, Lee Ingleby
Director: Beeban Kidron
Summary: Follows the love story of Oz editor Richard Neville and Louise Ferrier. Neville and his cohorts launch the London edition of Oz amidst the 1960s counterculture and are subsequently put on trial for distributing a sexually explicit issue.
Analysis: One of the most troubled productions in Working Title's history, 'Hippie' began development back in 1998 but failed to get beyond script stage both in 1999 and in 2002 when "Elizabeth" helmer Shekhar Kapur was attached to direct. Filming finally got underway late 2007 with director Beeban Kidron in charge and shooting seemed to proceed without issue aside from feminist author Germaine Greer being vehemently unhappy about being depicted on film.
Actually the film scored quite a bit of free press for a skinny dipping scene where full-frontal shots of actress Sienna Miller shooting the sequence...

English film-maker Gurinder Chadha is in talks to direct the movie adaptation of 1980s soap opera Dallas - a week after Robert Luketic walked out on the project. Luketic abruptly quit the 20th Century Fox-produced movie last week amid reports he was unhappy with the casting choices. Kenyan-born Chadha is known for her work on Bend It Like Beckham, What's Cooking? and Bride and Prejudice.

Bride & Prejudice
LONDON -- Bride & Prejudice is like an Elvis Presley musical from the '60s, filled with shiny bright colors, bouncy music and happy, smiling, pretty people. Like those old pop vehicles, this upbeat blend of Bollywood and Jane Austen is an acquired taste. While the plot is inane and the acting bland, the film's relentless effervescence may endear it to mainstream audiences.
Director Gurinder Chadha probably shouldn't expect to match the crossover appeal that made her last film, Bend It Like Beckham, such a hit, but Bride & Prejudice will succeed with moviegoers seeking an agreeably good time.
Chadha and co-writer Paul Mayeda Berges have adapted Austen's Pride and Prejudice to make the Bennet sisters the Bakshi sisters, taking them from rural England to rural India. There is a Mr. Darcy, however, in the form of a rich American hotelier.
The traditions and formalities of one culture appear to translate reasonably well though only lip service is given to the notion that the Bakshi family is poor. India has seldom been portrayed as so ravishingly clean and gorgeous.
The Bakshis live in Amritsar, an Indian town off the tourist track, where four beautiful girls are ripe for marriage and given every encouragement by their ambitious mother, Mrs. Bakshi (Nadira Babbar). Reigning Bollywood queen Aishwarya Rai plays the loveliest sister, Lalita, but the others -- Jaya (Namrata Shirodkar), Lakhi (Peeya Rai Choduri) and Maya (Meghnaa) -- are also head-turners.
Potential suitors arrive in the form of the American Darcy Martin Henderson), a London-based Indian named Balraj (Naveen Andrews) and one Mr. Kholi (Nitin Ganatra), an Indian gentleman who has made a success of accountancy in Los Angeles. There's also a good-looking but smarmy British hunk named Johnny Wickham (Daniel Gillies), who is at odds with Darcy.
The paths of romance hold true to the established patterns of Austen and Presley, which is to say there are several misunderstandings, the wrong things are said and feelings are hurt before love finds a way.
The locations are all made to look fabulous, from Amritsar and Goa to London and Beverly Hills, and the performers are all scrumptious. The music is loud and energetic, the dancing athletic and voluptuous. Resistance to the picture's evident wish to please becomes futile. In the end, it's impossible not to smile.

Weinstein, the man behind numerous hits including Pulp Fiction and Cold Mountain, went public with his relationship with Georgina Chapman by introducing her as his girlfriend at Sunday's Golden Globe Awards. Weinstein, 52, first met the 28-year-old Londoner a year ago, and former model Chapman - who has since spent an increasing amount of time in Los Angeles - even managed to land a small part in Miramax production Bride And Prejudice. Weinstein says, "We were friends and now we have moved on to this nice situation." An insider adds, "They were clearly getting on terribly well and I know they often had fairly intimate dinners together and went to some private parties in London." Chadha commits to 'Wives'
Gurinder Chadha, director of last year's indie hit Bend It Like Beckham, is attached to helm Nine Wives, a romantic comedy at New Line Cinema that Neal Moritz is producing with Michael Pierce, Mark Williams and Tania Landau. Wives is about a commitment-phobic guy who breaks up with his longtime girlfriend and begins to wake up every morning with a different wife. It marks the third project the director has attached herself to since her indie soccer film hit the big time, scoring $32.5 million at the domestic boxoffice. She is developing I Dream of Jeannie at Columbia as well as Tucker Ames at Fox 2000. The original draft for Wives was written by Scott Fifer. The project is now out to writers for a rewrite, and Chadha will work with them to develop the project. Stokely Chaffin, George Waud and Jeff Katz are overseeing the project at the studio. The ICM-repped Chadha is completing Bride and Prejudice, a Bollywood musical version of Pride and Prejudice, for Pathe U.K. and Miramax Films.
