Miss Congeniality, starring Sandra Bullock, Michael Caine, and Benjamin Bratt, remains one of Bullock's best performances. As Gracie Hart, Bullock is an FBI agent transformed into a beauty pageant contestant — despite her abhorrence of the events. The tomboy-turned-knockout competes at the Miss United States Pageant to investigate threats and violence against her fellow contestants, with pratfalls and gaffs at every turn.
The success of Miss Congeniality resulted in a sequel in 2005. Released five years after the original, Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous, united Bullock with Regina Hall in a female buddy comedy. Gracie Hart, too high-profile to be an effective FBI agent, becomes the face of the Bureau with Agent Sam Fuller (Hall) as her partner.
The first Miss Congeniality earned Bullock a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress, was a huge box office success, and was fairly well received by critics. The sequel was far less successful and,...

Before becoming a romcom icon, thanks to leading roles in The Proposal and The Lake House, Sandra Bullock was a bona-fide action star during the '90s and 00s, with major roles in Demolition Man, and the Speed franchise. But, one of Bullock's often-forgotten, and vastly underappreciated action flicks came six years after Speed, when Bullock starred in Miss Congeniality. For those that have never seen the action comedy, or won't pass up an opportunity for a long-overdue re-watch, it's currently a hit on streaming.
Miss Congeniality was recently added to Netflix, and flew up the streamer's Top 10 most popular movies of the week list. At the time of writing, Miss Congeniality is the 4th most popular movie on Netflix. The film sits behind Amy Schumer's latest comedy, Kinda Pregnant, in 1st, with The Menu and Back in Action in 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Which Film Does Sandra Bullock Regret Making? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Sandra Bullock doesn’t sugarcoat it: she still regrets being part of Speed 2: Cruise Control. In a chat about her new film The Lost City, where she teamed up with Channing Tatum, Bullock took a stroll down memory lane and admitted that her 1997 sequel to Speed is one project she wishes she could forget.
When TooFab asked about past films she was embarrassed by, Bullock didn’t hold back. “I have one no one came around to and I’m still embarrassed I was in. It’s called Speed 2,” she revealed. And honestly? She’s right. The film’s plot—a slow-moving cruise ship heading toward an oil tanker—is not exactly what you’d call thrilling.
The film’s reception was just as sluggish as the ship itself. Without Keanu Reeves and with a ridiculous storyline (the...

Rotten Tomatoes has been an authority on critical reviews since 1998. The review site offers both critical and audience ratings of movies and TV shows. Anything that has an average of 60% and over of positive reviews is certified fresh, while anything under 60% gets a splat.
Some actors like Nicolas Cage and Adam Sandler have had a horrible Rotten Tomatoes streak for years on end, only to break that streak with one good movie. Whether these performers star in these splats for the promise of a paycheck or because they genuinely thought they were good, their series of bad movies could have tanked their careers. Luckily, they were able to bounce back with a certified fresh movie that set them on a better path.

Sandra Bullock is a name that immediately takes us back to one of the greatest action films ever made, Speed (1994). Over the years, the 60-year-old actress starred in many box office hits, and it wasn’t just her role as Annie Porter that brought her a lot of recognition in the world of entertainment. Bullock had to work extremely hard before landing major roles in the industry.
The Gravity actress was born on July 26, 1964, to John W. Bullock and Helga Mathilde Meyer in Arlington, Virginia. While both her parents were vocal experts, Bullock loved acting and cheerleading while growing up.

Another fact about the A-lister is that she spent a little over a decade in Germany since her father was stationed as the Army’s Military Postal Service in charge. It was during his time in Nuremberg that he met Meyer.

Summer isn’t over yet but HBO and its streaming arm Max are already moving on to fall. With its list of new releases for August 2023, Max is focusing on football! The American kind, mind you, not the actually footy kind.
August 2023 sees the release of two major football documentaries on HBO and Max. The first is the premiere of Hard Knocks on Aug. 10. The new season of long-running NFL training camp docuseries will center on the New York Jets, new employers of legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers. On Aug. 23, Max will air the aptly named Bs High. The doc tells the stranger-than-fiction story of high school football team Bishop Sycamore, which pulled off one of the more notable sports scams you’re likely to ever hear about.
Not of the football variety but in keeping with the North American sports theme will be season 2 of Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty on Aug.

Warning: Major spoilers for Bird Box Barcelona below!Bird Box Barcelona's ending teases a new direction for the Netflix saga, but this approach could also hurt the franchise in the long run. Sandra Bullock has a well-known allergy to sequels, having faced embarrassment from both Speed 2: Cruise Control and Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous. In recent years she has rejected any sequel offers coming her way, including The Heat 2. While Bird Box was a major streaming success in 2018, the odds of Netflix convincing Bullock to return for a follow-up were always bleak.

Most known for her legendary country music career, Dolly Parton has also had a successful stint in Hollywood, appearing in a number of hit movies. Few recording artists have as varied a resume as Dolly Parton, and the noted songsmith has such a large personality that she was destined for the big screen. Besides lending memorable tunes to the movies she starred in, Parton also delivered strong performances that further endeared her to audiences. Regardless of what part she's playing, Parton elevates any movie project she takes a role in.
Dolly Parton got her start as a regular performer on The Porter Wagoner Show, and she immediately made a splash with her lovable, larger-than-life personality. After years of success as a recording artist, Hollywood came calling in the early '80s, and she made her big screen debut in the 1980 movie 9 to 5. A new month has arrived, which means a fresh batch of movies and TV shows streaming on Netflix. Most monumentally, the beginning of the month saw the conclusion of “Stranger Things 4,” which began back in May but is just now finishing up. (There’ll be one more season before the series winds down.) Other new Netflix original series this month include the horror-comedy “Boo, Bitch,” the fourth season of “Virgin River” and the fifth season of all-ages animated spin-off “Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous” (which we’ve heard has some surprising connections to this summer’s blockbuster “Jurassic World: Dominion”).
On the Netflix original films side of things, the biggest new release is undoubtedly “The Gray Man.” A nonstop action extravaganza from Joe and Anthony Russo, the directing duo behind “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgmane,” it stars Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling as dueling spies. When Emmy and Oscar-winning actress Regina King visited Deadline’s New Hollywood Podcast, we learned a lot of behind-the-scenes intel about her feature directorial debut One Night In Miami, which has become an awards season frontrunner for King as well as the cast. In addition to that, we got to learn a lot about the trailblazing actor and filmmaker.
For one, we learned that as a child, King used to perform her live plays with her sister in their backyard, she once had career aspirations to be a dentist and, to this day, she loves to people watch — which is part of the reason why she is a great performer.
King broke into the industry playing Brenda on the iconic sitcom 227 (which I tend to bring up a lot during the podcast) and went on to help sculpt Black cinema in the ’90s with groundbreaking films that included Boyz N the Hood...

During an exclusive interview with Life & Style, Law & Order alum Elisabeth Röhm opened up about how she relates to Serena Southerlyn — the Assistant District Attorney she portrayed for 85 episodes of the series between 2001 and 2005. "Between Serena Southerlyn and myself, I think she's the idealistic, I think she cares a lot. She's a bleeding heart and I'm a bleeding heart," she said at the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women Red Dress Collection showcase, presented by Macy's. "I think that I respond to characters that have a lot of strength, so hopefully I think there are things in common between us." When Serena first stepped on to the scene in Season 12, she replaced Angie Harmon's character, Abbie Carmichael. Elisabeth starred on the long-running series alongside Dianne Wiest, Fred Thompson, and Sam Waterston. Fans will recall her headline-making series departure,...

While October usually signals the arrival of all sorts of spooky, creepy, scary, and otherwise appropriately Halloween-themed films to both theaters and streaming services, this month’s batch of new titles on Netflix offers up a delightfully wide variety of choices that aren’t all tied to the year’s primary celebration of fear. Sure, those titles are there — from more mainstream chillers like “Cult of Chucky” and the new original “The Babysitter,” to more offbeat picks like the cannibal coming-of-age tale “Raw” and the seminal “Donnie Darko” — but this month’s incoming list has more than enough for movie fans who don’t want to shriek at their televisions.

3D space disaster movie relies on her personal qualities and acting chops that continue to produce hits from unlikely material
• Video: Gravity star Sandra Bullock: 'What we do, it's all sci-fi'
• Peter Bradshaw's five-star review for Gravity
Sandra Bullock may not have been the obvious first choice to play a scientist stuck in high-earth orbit in a 3D space thriller – especially not for producing studio Warner Bros, who had originally intended Gravity to be a vehicle for Angelina Jolie.
But there's no question now that she made the role her own. After a string of perky, cornbread roles over the past two decades, Bullock can also claim to have substantially reinvented herself with this grim-faced, physically demanding performance. Gravity's success – it will almost certainly overtake The Blind Side as her highest-grossing film in the not too distant future – caps a spectacular second coming for the actor, whose...

America’s sweetheart Sandra Bullock continued her reign as Hollywood royalty this year as the two films she top-lined (cop comedy The Heat and space drama Gravity) were both met with huge box office numbers and critical acclaim. So, while the ending to Gravity left little room for a sequel, it should come as no surprise that 20th Century Fox is interested in pursuing a follow-up to The Heat.
Bullock previously expressed her reluctance to reprise the role of Special Agent Sarah Ashburn in a second installment, likely due to her dubious track record with sequels (see: Speed 2: Cruise Control and Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous). One would think that a film’s star publicly dismissing the idea of a follow-up would kill talk of a sequel, but it would seem that the conversation is not over yet.

Far be it from us to question Hollywood wisdom, as we can easily see why Fox executives want more from "The Heat." The summer comedy was a smash hit at home, taking in over $155 million on its way to $229 million worldwide. And while there was some talk of a sequel, Sandra Bullock has been wary. Earlier this year she said she "can't imagine" doing a followup, point to her history of less that satisfying sequels ("Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous" and "Speed 2: Cruise Control," need we say more) as the reason for her reticence. But we guess it always pays to have a Plan B, and Paul Feig has one. The director is now developing a spinoff that will focus on Beth And Gina, played by Jamie Denbo and Jessica Chaffin, who were part of Melissa McCarthy's character's family in the film. Denbo, Chaffin and Feig have worked together before,...

When "The Heat" proved an unexpected smash over the summer, amassing over $200 million worldwide, plans were immediately set in motion for a sequel. Director Paul Feig tentatively agreed to return and screenwriter Kate Dippold was commissioned to work on a script, hopefully one that was slightly tighter than the somewhat ramshackle original. But one holdout has always been Sandra Bullock, whose chemistry with costar Melissa McCarthy was a big reason for the movie's success.
Well, it seems like even those faint glimmers of hope can be extinguished: she's not doing it. Bullock flatly told The Wrap at a screening of "Gravity," "I'm not doing a sequel to 'The Heat.'" The reason? "I've done two sequels. They were horrible." Well, it's hard to argue with her reasoning.

Actor who made her name in comedy films as an acid-tongued, gravel-voiced tyrant
Eileen Brennan, who has died aged 80, had been a stage actor since the late 1950s, but it was as a largely comic presence in Us cinema of the 1970s and early 1980s that she was most widely admired. As the pitiless Captain Doreen Lewis, putting a dippy new recruit – Goldie Hawn – through her paces in the hit military comedy Private Benjamin (1980), she wore her trademark look: a solid frizz of red hair, a clenched, sneering smile and an expression of withering incredulity. Then there was the gravelly voice: a heard-it-all whine to match that seen-it-all face. It sounded like bourbon on the rocks. Actual rocks, that is.
Captain Lewis epitomised the sort of role Brennan was best at – and which she was still playing as late as 2001, when she made the first in a run of appearances...

If a miracle happens where [a script] shows up that really and truly outdid the first and provided an experience that was better than the first one, then I would look at it. But I'm not there."
The critical and box-office failure of the two sequels she previously starred in - "Speed 2: Cruise Control" and "Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous" - have understandably made her wary of returning to the trough:
"If you look back on my illustrious sequel work, nothing has proven successful. A sequel is such a daunting thing,...

Hopes for a sequel to "The Heat" are nearly extinguished, according to Sandra Bullock.
The co-star of the cop comedy has said that the only thing that would get her holstered up again alongside Melissa McCarthy is a miracle. "I don't want to ruin what Melissa and I had," Bullock tells Entertainment Weekly. "If a miracle happens where [a script] shows up that really and truly outdid the first and provided an experience that was better than the first one, then I would look at it. But I'm not there."
Director Paul Feig recently revealed that "The Heat" screenwriter Katie Dippold is already working on a script for a second film. But will it be good enough to convince Bullock to sign on, despite her sequel curse?
The Oscar-winning actress has made two sequels in her career, including "Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous" and "Speed 2," both box office failures. "If you...

As it combined the hilarity forces that are Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, we suspected The Heat would be on bad-ass action-comedy. And it undoubtedly is. Not only has it won critical praise, but the R-rated buddy cop caper has proved a big hit for Fox, banking more than $150 million worldwide to date. With numbers like that, a sequel seems a no-brainer, but one half of the funny film.s leading ladies isn.t quite on board with for bringing back The Heat. Bullock was blunt about her standing on a sequel, telling EW: .I know they say never say never, but right now, I can.t imagine it.. To be fair, Bullock.s distaste for sequels is well earned. Memorably, Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous was critically reviled and earned less than half the first film.s box office. Then of course there.s the disastrous Speed 2: Cruise Control...

Before The Heat hit theaters, we knew a sequel was already in the works. And after seeing the thing, it made sense, as the movie left things open ended. Then with it killing at the box office (it's currently over $130 million), a sequel seemed like a forgone conclusion. Not so fast, says Sandra Bullock. Talking with Entertainment Weekly, she said, "I know they say never say never, but right now, I can’t imagine it.” She explained that she doesn't want to ruin what she had with her co-star Melissa McCarthy. Bullock also pointed to the shortcomings over her "illustrious sequel work" in Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous and Speed 2: Cruise Control. However, all hope is not lost, she explained: "If a miracle happens where [a script] shows up that really and truly outdid the first and provided an experience that was better than the first one, then I would...

Fans of The Heat might want to start hoping for a miracle.
That’s what Sandra Bullock says it would take for her to suit up for another installment of her hit buddy cop comedy, costarring Melissa McCarthy, which has grossed $130 million and sparked a groundswell of sequel rumors. “I know they say never say never, but right now, I can’t imagine it,” Bullock tells EW. “I don’t want to ruin what Melissa and I had. If a miracle happens where shows up that really and truly outdid the first and provided an experience that was better than the first one,...

20th Century Fox has debuted the first trailer for The Heat, Bridesmaids director Paul Feig's new comedy that turns the buddy cop genre on its ear. Sandra Bullock stars as a prim and proper FBI agent who is forced to team up with a crass Boston cop (Melissa McCarthy). Watch as these opposing forces collide in the new footage from this upcoming comedy. Despite what you may think, this is not a theatrical remake of TNT's Rizzoli & Isles (or the sequel to Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous).
The Heat - Trailer
Uptight and straight-laced, FBI Special Agent Sarah Ashburn (Sandra Bullock) is a methodical investigator with a reputation for excellence--and hyper-arrogance. Shannon Mullins (Melissa McCarthy), one of Boston P.D.'s "finest," is foul-mouthed and has a very short fuse, and uses her gut instinct and street smarts to catch the most elusive criminals. Neither has ever had a partner,...

Producer Martin Shafer announced today that Hugh Grant will star in writer / director Marc Lawrence's new untitled romantic comedy, shooting in New York in April 2013. Shafer will produce with Liz Glotzer for Castle Rock Entertainment. No distribution deals have been set.
This marks the fourth collaboration between Grant, Lawrence and Castle Rock Entertainment (Two Weeks Notice, Music and Lyrics, and Did You Hear About the Morgans?) and the sixth collaboration between Lawrence and Castle Rock (the previously mentioned films, as well as Miss Congeniality & Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous).
In 1998, Ray Michaels (Grant) was on top of the world -- a witty, sexy, Englishman in Hollywood who had just won an Academy Award for Best Screenplay. Fifteen years later, he's creatively washed up, divorced, and broke. With no other options, he takes a job teaching screenwriting at a small college on the East Coast. Although the idea of teaching is less than thrilling,...

Age seems to suit Sandra Bullock quit well. As she celebrates her 48th birthday today, her life appears as exciting and happy as ever. Not only does she have an impressive acting career, but her body is hotter than most 20-year-old’s. (Seriously, check out her flat tummy and sculpted arms). Most important, she rings in her 48th b-day in the good company of her adorable son, Louis, whom she adopted in January 2010. We gotta say, things have been really shaping up for Sandra Bullock.
As one of the richest female celebrities in the world, Sandra has left quite a mark. She first grabbed our attention with notable roles in Speed and While You Were Sleeping. Taking home the 2010 Academy Award for Best Actress, for her entertaining and poignant acting job playing Leigh Anne Tuohy in The Blind Side, Bullock continually proves that she is here to stay. While her...
