Bottoms is a new high school comedy film that challenges traditional notions of normalcy and explores the social hierarchy among lesbian high schoolers. It combines elements of Superbad and Mean Girls to offer a fresh perspective on teen life and relationships. The film humorously portrays the struggles of uncool kids trying to get with the popular crowd while highlighting the universal themes among teenagers.
We love a good high school movie. Mostly because people who used to be in high school seem to use them as a barometer for how things have changed. That being said, the high school movie is constantly changing. This is why Bottoms, the new 2023 film, is having such an impact on the public consciousness.
It’s a definite comedy, but it also shows people that what they may have thought was normal is now a thing of the past.

Netflix has launched a teaser trailer for the upcoming series ‘Bodies,’ based on the mind-bending graphic novel by Si Spencer.
Four detectives. Four timelines. One body. When a body – the same body – is found on Longharvest Lane in London’s East End in 1890, 1941, 2023 and 2053, one detective from each period must investigate. As connections are drawn across the decades, the detectives soon discover their investigations are linked, and an enigmatic political leader – Elias Mannix (Stephen Graham) – becomes increasingly central. Did he have a part to play in the murder? Or is something far more sinister at play? To solve the mystery, our four detectives must somehow collaborate and uncover a conspiracy spanning over 150 years.
The episode series is directed by Marco Kreuzpaintner (lead), with further episodes by Haolu Wang with a cast that includes Jacob Fortune-Lloyd, Shira Haas, Amaka Okafor, Kyle Soller and Stephen Graham.
Also in trailers – “Why don’t you come home with me…...

"You're not the first detective to discover this body..." Netflix has unveiled an intriguing first teaser trailer for a mysterious new crime series titled Bodies, arriving for streaming on Netflix sometime soon - it's set to debut in October this fall. They soon come to realise their investigations have them central to a mysterious conspiracy spanning over a 150 years. It's set in 1819, 1941, 2023, and even 2053 in the near future. "As the mind-scrambling pulsewave plagues the last survivors of a terrifying techno-apocalypse, the amnesiac young woman known only as Maplewood can barely understand the body she's discovered." The series stars Shira Haas,...

Director Emma Seligman broke onto the scene with her 2021 indie, Shiva Baby. The film received rave reviews, making her a filmmaker to watch. It was so well received that audiences clamored to see what she did next. Now in 2023, she is back with her follow-up film Bottoms, reuniting her with her co-writer, actor, and regular collaborator Rachel Sennott (from Shiva Baby). The story follows two unpopular queer high school students (Sennott and Ayo Edbiri) who start a fight club in an attempt to lose their virginity before graduation.
That premise is the perfect setup for a raunchy R-rated comedy. The classic teen raunchy comedy involved men on a mission to sleep with women. Bottoms takes that concept and modernizes it to today’s social world. It is that key ingredient that could make it the surprise hit of the summer. That is not the only thing that makes Bottoms connect with audiences.

The 90-minute horror movie has taken fans of the genre by storm this year. It’s a unique and authentic tale directed by YouTubers Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou, who know exactly how to make audiences squeal, scream, and pull out their hair while watching some kids play a game of “spirit-calling.” The quick-paced film has a way of holding one’s attention from start to finish, with some humor that disarms you in the run up to that intense last scene. The movie’s ending is definitely one that will polarize fans because it’s unexpected and commits fully. It’s definitely a memorable one among the plethora of horror releases that we’ve been graced with lately. This is exactly the kind of film that made A24 gain such a cultish following and proves their knack for finding great indie films. Of course, there isn’t much else...

The following contains spoilers for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, now in theaters.
One of the most intriguing aspects of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is how the movie brings more bots into play. Fans grew accustomed to the Autobots and Decepticons waging war against each other. But the new film has the Maximals, as well as Unicron's servants: the Terrorcons and Predacons.
With the cast growing, this allowed director Steven Caple Jr. the perfect opportunity to give Optimus Prime new soldiers. One of them is Mirage, who's voiced by a very familiar face in the comedy field. With that in mind, let's discuss who this person is and what they bring to the role as an Autobot badass.

Sam Levinson is a renowned creator, writer, and director known for his captivating works like Euphoria, Assassination Nation, Malcolm & Marie, and others. He started by making independent films until he came up with the idea to adapt the Israel-based miniseries Euphoria for Western audiences. The series received critical acclaim and developed a cult-like fanbase in a short time. However, the creators came under fire for promoting drug abuse, teen sex, and nudity. Levinson is back with another brand-new series titled The Idol. There is already a lot of hype around the series, with many people criticizing the creators for repeating the mistake of showcasing overly explicit content.
Initially, The Idol was announced in 2021, but experienced a significant delay in release due to the original director's exit, changes in creative decisions, and reshoots. Levinson took over as director after Amy Seimetz, the show's previous director, decided to depart. According to Rolling Stone,...

A new episode of Apple TV+'s new mystery series City on Fire releases this Friday, and Screen Rant is pleased to present an exclusive clip. Hailing from the creators of The O.C. and Gossip Girl, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, the new show centers on the shooting of NYU student Samantha Yeung and the mystery of who pulled the trigger.
Her best friend Charlie will stop at nothing to find the truth, even if it means getting involved with a ban that moonlights as vigilante arsonists. The list of suspects in City on Fire has already begun piling up as the episodes progress, and one of the many shady figures in Samantha's life is Keith (played by Ashley Zukerman). Zukerman is best known for his role as Nate Sofrelli in HBO's Succession, and here he plays a lonely man whose affair with Sam ended his marriage.

Crime dramas can sit on a pretty broad spectrum: some are campy, cosy and even comfortingly formulaic, whereas others make you need to sleep with the light on. The one guarantee is that in the UK at least, there’s such an appetite for detectives and crime stories that TV will never run out of new cases to solve.
We’ve already had some top examples in 2023, from the Happy Valley and Endeavour finales to the excellent Belfast-based Blue Lights, but there are plenty more fresh crime dramas on the way, from police procedurals to true crime and murder mysteries. See what’s coming up below.

In 1973, the killer of Welsh teenagers Sandra Newton, Pauline Flynn and Gwendoline Hughes was not caught, despite a high-profile and widespread investigation by South Wales Police. The girls’ families spent the next three decades not knowing who was responsible for brutally taking the lives of their loved ones, or whether he still lived alongside them in the local Neath and Port Talbot communities.
In 2002, a development in forensics changed everything. The cold case was reopened with much pared-down resources, and crime scene DNA was successfully used to identify Wales’ first recorded serial killer. Steeltown Murders is the story of the loss, guilt and suspicion that followed the 1970s murders, and of the perseverance of the officers who were eventually able to provide the victims’ families with the answers they’d been denied years before.
Here are the actors making up the cast behind Steeltown Murders‘ dramatisation of real-life figures and events.

Fashion’s biggest night is always one to remember.
Celebrities descend upon The Met steps every first Monday in May to bring their fashion A-game for a different theme each year. Sometimes, in an effort to be memorable, stars will go above and beyond for their outfits, at times resulting in the year’s most outrageous looks.
This year, the Met Gala theme honors the late Karl Lagerfeld, who died in 2019. The dress code simply reads “In honor of Karl,” leaving it mostly up for interpretation for the celebrities attending — and their stylists. The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute curator Andrew Bolton says he hopes guests will celebrate “the spirit of Karl, and hopefully, everyone will come out in vintage Chanel, vintage Fendi, vintage Chloé.”
Vogue‘s Anna Wintour will steer the event, alongside Michaela Coel, Penélope Cruz, Roger Federer and Dua Lipa, who all serve as her Met Gala co-chairs.

Plot: Wendy Darling, a young girl afraid to leave her childhood home behind, meets Peter Pan, a boy who refuses to grow up. Alongside her brothers and a tiny fairy, Tinker Bell, she travels with Peter to the magical world of Neverland. There, she encounters the evil pirate Captain Hook and embarks on a thrilling and dangerous adventure that will change her life forever.
Review: In their seemingly neverending quest to refresh their animated IP with live-action remakes, Disney thought they would find luck by bringing auteur David Lowery back after his updated take of Pete’s Dragon to tackle a new Peter Pan feature film. Where Lowery imbued Pete’s Dragon, a less familiar title in the overall Disney canon, with realistic characters and emotionally grounded storytelling, his Peter Pan & Wendy is a rote remake that sticks pretty close to the 1953 original. While the more problematic elements from the classic animated film have been replaced,...

Kcrw and journalist Allison Behringer today are pleased to preview the trailer for a new season of the critically-acclaimed Bodies podcast that will debut on April 19. Bodies is known for compassionately delving into medical mysteries and the complexities within the bodies of women and marginalized genders and how health systems treat them.
This season will feature six powerful episodes that will explore the tie between Adhd and Ptsd, making peace with death, experiencing early puberty and postpartum psychosis and the obstacles for future doctors when it comes to performing abortions in this new post-Roe era. A special experimental, impressionistic episode will explore the various ways that touch impacts our lives and human connection.
“We’re living in a time where access to compassionate healthcare and access to knowledge about our bodies is being restricted. Many of the stories this season feature people fighting for those rights — for themselves and one another.

McCombs, also known for his work with SOiL, served as lead singer of Drowning Pool for two studio albums. Now, he’s replacing Jasen Moreno, who fronted the group after McCombs left in 2012.
According to Metal Edge, McCombs will perform his first shows back in the fold Friday (March 17) at Club L.A. in Destin, Florida, and Saturday (March 18) at the Throwdown at the Campground Festival in Fruitland Park, Florida. Tickets are available here.
The singer will also keep fronting SOiL and perform with both bands in the future. McCombs served as SOiL’s vocalist from 1997 to 2004 and returned to the metal band in 2011 after exiting Drowning Pool.

The blue carpet has been rolled up, and now we know who are the 2023 Independent Spirit Awards winners. The list of nominees recognized the best among films made for under $30 million in 2023 — that’s an increase from the previous budget cap, in recognition of ever-increasing production costs.

The Hitchcockian thriller Holland, Michigan is a project that has spent the last decade in development hell. It started out with a screenplay by Andrew Sodroski, creator of the Discovery television series Manhunt, that was featured on the Black List back in 2013. At one point, documentarian Errol Morris was going to direct a version of Holland, Michigan that was going to star Naomi Watts, Bryan Cranston, and Edgar Ramirez. But it fell apart before filming could begin. Now director Mimi Cave – who recently made her feature directorial debut with the thriller Fresh – and producer/star Nicole Kidman (Moulin Rouge) are working together to push the project into production for Amazon Prime Video… and it’s looking like this version of Holland, Michigan is actually going to happen! We’ve previously heard that Kidman is going to be joined in the cast by Gael García Bernal (Werewolf by Night), Matthew Macfadyen...

With their striking visuals, creative soundtracks, intriguing philosophical themes, and magnetic performances, horror movies deserve more Oscars, a point that Infinity Pool's Mia Goth has been campaigning for in recent months. Brandon Cronenberg's eerie body horror movie capitalizes on Goth's unique ability to be both girlish and aggressive as Gabi, an ardent fan of Alexander Skarsgård's novelist James, who, after intruding on his bucolic stay at a wealthy resort, takes him on a whirlwind journey to the depths of human ecstasy and depravity. As her most frequent scene partner (and literal partner in crime), Skarsgård also showcases many facets as a performer, vacillating between reticent and unhinged with unexpected aplomb.
In a recent interview about Infinity Pool, Mia Goth declared horror movies deserved Oscars recognition beyond the typical technical categories. Some of the most impressive acting performances, as highlighted by Goth over the past several years, can be found in horror movies,...

Audiences might see some recognizable Jedi or Sith in the upcoming series, The Acolyte. The upcoming Star Wars Disney+ show is unique compared to Lucasfilm's other projects. While The Mandalorian and related series will continue to showcase the era between the fall of the Empire and the rise of the First Order, The Acolyte will take audiences back to the High Republic Era. Set approximately a century before the events of Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace, The Acolyte will significantly reshape audiences' understanding of both the Jedi and the Sith - and potentially the light and dark sides of the Force.
Filming for The Acolyte commenced back in October 2022, so optimistically it could arrive on Disney+ in early 2024. The Acolyte’s cast is stacked, including stars such as Amandla Stenberg (Bodies Bodies Bodies), Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game), Dafne Keen (Logan), Manny Jacinto (The Good Place), and Carrie-Anne Moss...

Indisputably the best female-centric werewolf movie shot in Canada since Ginger Snaps (2000) — admittedly not the most competitive of fields — sensual queer horror story My Animal marks an impressive, confident feature debut for several key talents. First and foremost, debutante director Jacqueline Castel, already an experienced short film and music video helmer who has collaborated with David Lynch and John Carpenter, imbues this first-feature script by Jae Matthews with a woozy, dreamy, retro sensibility. (Matthews is also half of the electronic band Boy Harsher along with Augustus Muller, who contribute a very John Carpenter-esque soundtrack of sustained drones and bass-heavy humming.)
Altogether, the team creates a richly hued setting for the young but in some ways more seasoned leads. Bobbi Salvor Menuez (I Love Dick) stars as a lovelorn teen-wolf living in the sticks who looks at Amandla Stenberg’s (Bodies Bodies Bodies) figure skater with the kind of longing you...

While Sick will likely gain attention for its pandemic-driven premise, the new thriller from Scream (1996) screenwriter Kevin Williamson is much more than just a current events-capitalizing scary movie. Lean, intense, and smart, it’s one of the better recent additions to the slasher genre while also being a rare film with something to say about the Covid crisis.
The film takes place in April 2020, during the early days of quarantines, lockdowns, and toilet paper scarcity. College students Parker (Gideon Adlon) and Miri (Bethlehem Million) head to a cabin in the woods to ride out the pandemic and stay safe; they’re joined by Parker’s sort-of boyfriend DJ (Dylan Sprayberry) – as well as a masked killer intent on wreaking their own deadly havoc. It’s a simple premise, knocked out in a tension-filled 82 minutes.
