David Steven Cohen, an Emmy-winning writer and composer who served as head writer on “Courage the Cowardly Dog,” died March 15 of cancer in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was 66.
Born in Brooklyn, Cohen started out working with Steve Martin on a comedy-anthology series for CBS. He then became a writer for “Pee-wee’s Playhouse” and “Alf,” co-creating and executive producing NBC’s animated “ALFTales.”
On the teen comedy “Parker Lewis Can’t Lose,” Cohen served as co-executive producer and head writer, and also served as co-executive producer on Fox’s “Living Single.”
He co-wrote the animated feature “Balto” for exec producer Steven Spielberg.
Cohen received two Emmy nominations and a Writers Guild Award for Nickelodeon’s “The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss,” and worked with Amy Sedaris and Stephen Colbert as consulting producer of Comedy Central’s “Strangers With Candy.”

Mercury Filmworks, the studio behind the Netflix kids’ series “Hilda” and Disney’s “The Lion Guard,” is developing a 2D animated comedy series based on Flavia Z. Drago’s “The World of Gustavo” book series.
Among the books being adapted are “Gustavo, the Shy Ghost” which became a New York Times bestseller after its publication via Trustbridge Global Media’s Walker Books/Candlewick Press in 2020.
The series is set in the supernatural suburbs of Calavera Cove and follows Gustavo the Ghost alongside his friends Leila the Witch and Vlad the Vampire. Each has paranormal powers that reflect their personalities, which they will use to save the day in 52 11-minute episodes.

Our first official look at the live-action/CGI-animated movie version of Clifford the Big Red Dog has arrived. On the official Twitter account for the upcoming movie, a sneak peek video reveals the giant, red-furred dog as he compares to other normal-sized canines. "This holiday season, we're thankful for the pets who've love got us through the year, but next year, get ready to love even bigger," a narrator says, encouraging fans to share pictures of their pets using the hashtag #LoveBig.

Just one day after Universal Pictures swapped release dates for their Snow White prequel The Huntsman and the Untitled Mummy Reboot, the studio has now announced an April 8, 2016 release date for Clifford The Big Red Dog.
As of now, the live-action/animation hybrid does not have any direct competition in its new release date, but the project sets up Universal to have three consecutive releases in April 2016, with Clifford The Big Red Dog on April 8, The Best Man Wedding on April 15 and The Huntsman on April 22.
No screenwriter or director is attached yet for Clifford The Big Red Dog, which will be produced by Deborah Forte of Scholastic Media, the company that publishes the Clifford children's books.

Emma Stone, whose credits include Superbad, The Rocker and The House Bunny, is in talks to join the cast of the Columbia Pictures horror-comedy Zombieland, report the trades. Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg star in the flick, which centers on a band of survivors who team to fight the living dead in the post-apocalyptic Southwest after a zombie plague ravages America. Ruben Fleischer will direct from a script by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. Wernick was a writer on the faux reality shows The Joe Schmo Show and Invasion Iowa and Reese’s credits include Monsters, Inc., Clifford's Really Big Movie and Cruel Intentions 3. The project will be Fleischer’s feature directorial debut. Gavin Palone (Ghost Town, My Super Ex-Girlfriend, Panic Room) is producing the film, which begins shooting in Atlanta in February. Zombieland will open in 2010.
