Ludicrous and totally failed attempt on the Jekyll & Hyde story

I recently read the original novel by Stevenson, so I (foolishly) thought to give this rather obscure modern twist a try. It turned out to be pretty awful. The character of nerdy doctor Jekyll is still reasonably acceptable, although his invention of some kind of remote-control sized retainer that can channel upgraded DNA into another person by pressuring two bulbs on antennas to the person's eyeballs, looked just as silly as the wannabe scientific mumbo jumbo to explain it all. Anyway, in the flick of a wrist this device turns friendly Jekyll into the supposedly formidable, evil Mr. Hyde.

Unfortunately this Hyde looked as unscary as someone dressed up for Halloween, a bit like a crossover between a 19th century circus ringmaster and a character in an Oscar Wilde play, complete with cape, top hat and whiskers, and an accordingly silly British accent. Apart for some rough handling of women, an occasional violent tantrum in a bar and throwing some people against the wall, his only serious evil feat was shoving his cane through the throat of Jekyll's to-be father in law (I admit: he deserved it!). It's all totally unconvincing, or, to put it more frankly, downright ludicrous.

The rest of the movie exists of Jekyll and Hyde alternately turning into each other, accompanied by lots of turmoil and screaming, and also, for reasons unknown, a fair amount of naked girls. Add to all this some far below par acting of all concerned, and you can understand why I heaved a sigh of relief when the story at last provided a definitive end of these Jekyll and Hyde. So to sum it all up: lame and superfluous. Don't bother!!

    Genetic Engineering

Back when Robert Louis Stevenson wrote Dr.Jekyll&Mr.Hyde we did not know about DNA and chromosomes those wonderful things that make you, you. Si taking advantage of those scientific advances we get Matt Keeslar as genetic research scientist experimenting on himself with an avatar from his cyber gaming world and we have Mr. Hyde.. It'a an interesting concept.

If you've read the classic novel from Victorian times than you'll recognize the other characters in this movie, Keeslar does a fine job with the two characters of Jekyll and Hyde and integrating them into himself.

It's a low budget item but Jekyll might please some fans of the story. it's a novel approach.

Good modern adaptation of classic story...

This is a pretty good low-budget retelling of the Jekyll and Hyde story, but done with plenty of style and a very good, and I mean VERY good performance by Matt Keeslar as the dynamic duo. This version has to do with the digital revolution and capturing ones mind into the computer and then creating a computer generated alter-ego, and introducing it back into Dr. Jeckyll's mind. I wasn't getting into the movie at the beginning but soon it moves into a world of tits and ass and we find out Mr. Hyde is one mean sob. As I said Matt Keeslar is phenomenal in this role and I thoroughly enjoyed this movie as he moves between the good and evil. It brings the famous story into the modern age and to me, works very well. There's certainly a lot better Jekyll-Hyde movies, of which I like most of them, and this one is a little different, but I found it to be pretty entertaining.

    Jekyll

I rec. a copy of this film in the mail a few days ago. Taking into consideration that this is a low budget production,I personally had a difficult time understanding the overall plot. Seems as though Jekyll (main Char.) has a sexual addiction and a lack of respect for the female gender, which I found offensive at times. In Several scenes there's an obvious indication of A actors VS B in acting skills, and it overtly draws away the ability to finish that particular scene, and, has created confusion in the understanding of what is supposed to be happening. The only enjoyable aspect on this production was the opening composition (Very nice). Other than that, unfortunately not a well directed and edited film. I get a sense of where it's trying to go but there were too many bad turns taken on a lonely dirt road. Musicically 8 out of 10, Acting 5 out of 10, Direction 2 out of 10, Animation/Graphics 8 out of 10.
