Hulu confirmed that War of the Worlds will debut via its platform on Apr. 1, giving subscribers the chance to catch up with the movie during its 20th anniversary. War of the Worlds' Hulu debut will come a month after the film began streaming for free via Tubi.

Every movie trailer has a clear job. In a couple of minutes, it needs to convey what a movie's about, show off the famous faces in it, and what viewers can generally expect from the plot. Of course, there are various ways this can go horribly awry. It feels like many trailers these days, especially for high-profile blockbusters, give away far too much of the plot. It's like watching the Cliffnotes version before the film's even in theaters. But at least with that the audience knows what it's getting to a ridiculous degree. However, some trailers don't just hide what the movie's about, and they outright lie to audiences.

Appreciating there’s a fair amount of frustration about streaming services around at the moment, there are still some real highlights. For film nerds, I can’t think of too many better shows than Light & Magic, the 2022 documentary series which charted not just the rise of visual effects studio Industrial Light & Magic (Ilm), but in tandem the Star Wars saga, George Lucas, Jurassic Park, Steven Spielberg and more besides.

The series ended in 1993 as Jurassic Park came in, and digital effects began to take over from miniatures and motion control. Now, it’s been revealed that a second season of Light & Magic is arriving next month, which will continue the story through the rest of the 1990s and 2000s.

Steven Spielberg knows a thing or two about sci-fi, especially extraterrestrials in fiction. While such stories about alien encounters often come in varying shades, the most enduring, nostalgia-laden film associated with the genre is Spielberg's "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial." A classic in almost every sense, "E.T." captures the anxieties of childhood along with its wonders, etching a journey about homecoming through the most endearing friendships. On the flip side, we have Spielberg's 1977 "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," a first-contact tale where an everyman's obsessive drive to de-mystify UFOs propels him to choose openness in the face of the unknown. Zanuck and David Brown found themselves without a director for the exciting project about the aquatic monster. 50 years later, its legacy remains unquestionable, and TCM, Universal Pictures, and more, plan to throw the 50th birthday bash Jaws deserves.

As reported by Bloody Disgusting, this summer, modern viewers will get the chance to revisit Spielberg's groundbreaking movie. Jaws will return to theaters for the TCM Classic Film Festival in April. However, this won't be the only 50th anniversary presentation, as Universal is planning a nationwide re-release of the movie from Aug. 29 through Sept. 4.

The ambition of the series is 30 Days of Night meets The Last of Us. A comet hits the earth and the results are apocalyptic. As a result, the sun is blocked out, and humans become pitted against vampires. The way in is two sisters who find themselves on opposite sides of the war.

The bestselling podcast plays out on the order of an old radio teleplay like War of the Worlds by Orson Welles. The podcast has three seasons with a fourth coming, and has racked up nearly 6 million subscribers.

According to Deadline, Spielberg's UFO film, reportedly titled The Dish, is now set to hit theaters on June 12, 2026, moving back from its original release date of May 15. The film will now share the same release date as the Scary Movie reboot, which was announced back in 2024. While plot details for Spielberg's event film are being kept under wraps, filming is reportedly set to begin this month. David Koepp, a longtime collaborator with Spielberg, wrote the script for The Dish. Koepp has previously worked with Spielberg on films such as Jurassic Park and War of the Worlds, with the most recent collaboration being Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Steven Spielberg is headed back into the science fiction arena with an untitled event movie that’s reportedly centered on UFOs, and Universal has given the project a new release date.

Previously set for May 15, 2026, Spielberg’s next will arrive in theaters on June 12, 2026. Steven Spielberg reteams with screenwriter David Koepp (Jurassic Park) on the film.

It’s worth noting that June 12, 2026 is also the current release date for Scary Movie 6, with the Wayans Brothers returning to bring the spoof franchise back to life for Paramount.

Universal is shifting its untitled Steven Spielberg event film away from “Avengers: Doomsday” and “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” and straight into the “Scary Movie” reboot’s territory. The untitled Spielberg movie was originally set for a May 15, 2026 theatrical release; the film will now wait nearly another month, releasing wide on Friday, June 12, 2026.

The shift is not all about Spielberg, IndieWire has learned. The June slot was previously occupied by another untiled Universal event film, that one directed by Daniels Kwan and Scheinert. The Daniels film is now undated, but a new release date will be announced shortly. It has a script, a person with knowledge of the situation told IndieWire, but needs a little more time. Internally, the Spielberg shift is being looked at as a win-win for both films.

It’s not like there is no competition set for Spielberg’s new date — it’s just now less of a crossover with potential movie-goers.

Art carries with it a reflection of the world. The media we make, whether the times are turbulent or peaceful, shows us who we are, or were, or what could be, and it's almost always political. Science fiction is even more political by nature, as it draws from big ideas about technology and its applications, or arguments about gender and individuality, or how we treat an alien people we barely understand. These concepts are derided by misinformed individuals as 'woke,' as if cultural and social awareness is some disease, but these individuals also like to act as if 'woke' is some recent phenomena. 

Unfortunately, this behavior is generational, as some of science fiction's greatest minds often had to obscure their identity as they were -- gasp! -- female, such as James Tiptree Jr. (Alice Sheldon) or C.J. Cherryh, or numerous people of color, like the Hugo-winning Samuel R. Delany.

Steven Spielberg's mysterious new movie is being kept under wraps like a secret government experiment. However, the director's latest "alien" project has just received a major update. MCU star Wyatt Russell, mostly famous for playing a version of Captain America in the miniseries The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, has apparently signed up for Spielberg's still-untitled movie.

During an interview with Screen Rant, Russell's wife Meredith Hagner, also an actor and his co-star in the rom-com You’re Cordially Invited, spilled the beans about Russell's participation in the new sci-fi project that would see Spielberg returning to the genre. Hagner spoke about them acting together in the comedy starring Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell, and balancing their personal lives with their work in the entertainment industry. With a little under 24 hours to go until the first Jurassic World Rebirth trailer is released, Universal Pictures has just shared another teaser. This time focusing on the characters played by Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali, and they appear to be in a rather precarious situation.
