1. Mindblow: I loved the opening Bacharach medley! I bet you didn't, and that's fine. I didn't love Lazaro's weepy drone and lyrical glitches, but Janelle's sweet version of "You'll Never Get to Heaven (If You Break My Heart)," Kree's pitch-perfect "(There's) Always Something There to Remind Me," and Amber and Candice's "One Less Bell to Answer" were inspiringly quaint. I'd kill to hear Amber get zesty and cheeky on "Promises, Promises," but we got a lot of good cute-ass stuff here.
2. There will never be a song as unblinkingly earnest as "That's What Friends Are For." I'm picturing Gladys Knight's mile-wide grin and aping it in horror.
3. The little Ford Fiesta skit where the idols "kicked" around a gigantic inflated soccer ball using their cars was... almost Dada? I couldn't make heads or tails of the "game" they were playing, or if there were rules or even points. I...

You’ll never guess what other movie from this year Seeking a Friend for the End of the World most reminded me of. Go on, give it a whirl. Here’s a lighthearted romantic-comedy romp through humanity’s final, ultimate apocalypse starring a goofy couple who (maybe) fall in love along the way. This would be most like what other film of 2012? Give up? It’s The Cabin in the Woods. That horror flick astonished me with 1) how it so inventively highlighted how ridiculous the genre’s conventions by exaggerating them even further, and 2) took the genre to what feels so much like a decisive end that it’s hard to see how anyone can make a straightfaced example of the genre again. And Seeking a Friend does exactly the same thing for romantic comedies. All the heightened emotions and the outrageous urgency of all those stories about people chasing love are actually appropriate here.

Cameron Diaz was back in La and happily gabbing on her phone on her way into the gym yesterday — gotta keep that famous butt in shape after all. Gorgeous Cameron has an extra spring in her step these days, which has to be at least in part thanks to her happy new relationship with Paul Sculfor. We all awwwww-ed seeing their lovey dovey times in NYC last week and it looks like she can't stop grinning. From the streets to the courts — Cameron and Paul showed that Roger Federer and Serena Williams weren't the only winners at the Us Open this year. Source and Flynet...
