Almost a year after Rooster Teeth, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Discovery Global Streaming & Interactive Entertainment, announced it was ceasing operations after 21 years, the digital content brand is staging a comeback.
Rooster Teeth co-founder Burnie Burns announced Wednesday that he has acquired “the Rooster Teeth brand and much of its remaining assets” through his independent company, Box Canyon Productions. The company has not responded to Deadline’s inquiry whether the acquired assets include the Rooster Teeth library and The Roost Podcast Network.
Along with the acquisition, Box Canyon revealed a 2025 slate, “including renewed production of some of the platform’s classic shows, a new original audio adventure Again, and an untitled reimagining of Burns’ first film The Schedule.”
The company would not elaborate on what shows are being revived. Some of Rooster Teeth’s most popular titles include Red vs Blue, Rwby and Gen:lock.

Last year, Rwby fans suffered a major blow when Rooster Teeth, the entertainment group responsible for the show's creation, announced that it was closing its doors. However, the company recently announced its official return, indicating hope for the franchise's future.
After nine long months offline, Rooster Teeth's official site has returned to the internet along with an explanatory press release. According to the notice, the company's "remaining assets" have been acquired by Burnie Burns, who co-founded Rooster Teeth in 2003 alongside Geoff Ramsey, Gus Sorola, Joel Heyman and Matt Hullum. Burns and his independent company, Box Canyon Productions, have taken sole ownership of Rooster Teeth, which was previously owned by Warner Bros. Few shows are as riveting as Foxs 9-1-1: Lone Star. The heart-pounding procedural debuted in 2020 and has only risen since its mid-winter premiere. Unlike its preceding sister series, 9-1-1, Lone Star follows the Austin Fire Departments Station 126. Left in shambles after the tragic deaths of most of its members, the 126 is revived by September 11 veteran Owen Strand (Rob Lowe), who brings his own oddball crew to repopulate the near-empty firehouse. Owens son, Tyler Kennedy T.K. Strand (Ronen Rubinstein), is just one member of the transplant crew. However, as the captains son, he holds an understandably massive place in the shows narrative.
Throughout his years with the 126, Tk has served dutifully as both a firefighter and a paramedic. Like the rest of Strands firefighting family, Tk is an inseparable part of 9-1-1: Lone Star. Despite the shows consistent emphasis on hope and joy, every family has its battles. The...

Red Vs. Blue: Restoration is the epic conclusion of a 21-year series, now available as a feature film across various streaming platforms. The series began as a Machinima using Halo games that captivated fans around the world. The emotional journey of the Reds and Blues in saving the galaxy one last time is highlighted by pivotal character moments and powerful storytelling and serves as a fitting send-off to the show.
Red Vs. Blue: Restoration is the feature-length conclusion to the 21-year-long series that was written by Burnie Burns and directed by Matt Hullum. The Red Vs. Blue series started with Burnie Burns' voiceovers over Halo gameplay clips before evolving into its own popular web series as a Machinima and then an Unreal Engine production.
A machinima is the use of real-time computer graphics engines to create a cinematic production, in Red Vs. Blues case, this was done using the Halo games.

Rooster Teeth co-writer Matt Hullum discusses the end of Red Vs. Blue and his hopes for the future of the Halo series. Hullum compares Halo to Star Wars, suggesting branching out to explore new corners of the universe like Reach and Odst. Fans could see more Halo projects outside of Master Chief's story, similar to Star Wars spin-offs exploring different perspectives.
When discussing the conclusion to Rooster Teeth's long-running Red Vs. Blue, the show's co-writer, director, and voice actor, Matt Hullum talked about the game franchise it started life as a machinima of: Halo. Red Vs. Warner Bros. Discovery has revealed its ambitious intention to produce over 10 anime series annually through its existing local Japanese studio.
Per Variety, Warner Bros. Discovery President of Asia-Pacific James Gibbons discussed the expansion. "We have a Japanese anime studio which has been producing five or ten anime series per year, over the last few years. We've approved expansion to take that to more than ten series per year," he said. 2011 saw Wbd anime studio take off, delivering over 80 titles thus far, including high-quality anime, live-action series and movies. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, serialized in a manga magazine starting in 1987, received an animated series adaptation that launched in 2012. The Record of Ragnarök series and the Batman Ninja anime movie are other notable titles.

Inspired by Halo, Red vs. Blue developed a complex and hilarious saga over two decades, balancing comedy with deep character growth. Unlike Halo's struggle with maintaining a balance in storytelling, Red vs. Blue has easily woven together grand ambitions and entertaining characters. Red vs. Blue, packed with inventive action, has elevated and parodied military sci-fi tropes to create an adventurous and captivating story.
Halo has been an interesting adaptation, but the Paramount live-action series is not actually the best on-screen reinvention of the Halo video game franchise. Halo has generated controversy since it first premiered due to its willingness to make serious changes to the world of the original games. The show has tried to be a lot of things at once, with Halo's characters going through some interesting shifts and changes. While it has improved across the course of season 2, Halo is a uniquely compelling but frustrating show.

Recently, fans of Rooster Teeth have noticed that some of the entertainment company’s biggest shows have been disappearing from YouTube. On October 5, Rooster Teeth showrunner Kerry Shawcross provided the rationale behind that decision: In hopes of increasing its revenue, the company is turning some of its top draws into website exclusives.
The content that will be exclusively available through Rooster Teeth’s official hub includes two animated shows: Camp Camp and Red vs. Blue. The latter program, which dates back to 2003, is the longest-running web series in internet history. It is set to begin its 19th season later in 2023.

Rooster Teeth is moving its content from YouTube to its own website, a move designed to bolster revenue that will allow them to create more content.
In a video posted to X, showrunner Kerry Shawcross said that “YouTube revenue is just not cutting it for us anymore.” He noted that watching a video on the Rooster Teeth website with an ad delivers “five to ten times more value” to the company than a view on YouTube. “It just doesn’t make sense anymore for us to have our whole back catalog on YouTube.”
Headquartered in Austin, Texas, Rooster Teeth celebrated its 20th anniversary this year as a production company. It is currently a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Discovery. Its popular streaming shows include Red vs. Blue and Camp Camp. It also released the feature film Lazer Team, and hosts the annual Rtx convention.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “Red vs. Blue,” Monday’s episode of “9-1-1: Lone Star.”
Lisa Edelstein is exiting “9-1-1: Lone Star” after playing Gwyneth Morgan, the wife of Rob Lowe’s Chief Owen Strand and the mother of Ronen Rubinstein’s T.K. Strand, for two seasons on the Fox drama, Variety has learned exclusively.
Edelstein’s departure was hinted at in the final moments of Monday’s episode of “Lone Star,” when T.K. received a devastating phone call letting him know that his mother had been killed. The Halo series, based on the ground-breaking first-person shooter Xbox video game, will stream on Paramount+ in 2022.
Although it was ordered to series by Showtime in 2018, Paramount+ acquired its exclusive distribution rights earlier this year.
At the eighth annual Game Awards live stream on Dec 9, the first-look trailer was debuted, showcasing the faces of many major characters but, not surprisingly, not the face of its central protagonist, the soldier known as Master Chief.
According to Paramount+, "Halo will take place in the universe that first came to be in 2001 with the launch of Xbox®'s first 'Halo' game.
"Dramatizing an epic 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant, Halo the series will weave deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure and a richly imagined vision of the future."
The trailer provides a glimpse of a visually epic landscape filled with military forces fighting an as-yet-unseen enemy.

First hitting screens in April 2003, Red Vs. Blue was Rooster Teeth’s launch into Machinima videos using the Halo series of games. The series would become so popular that it now consists of 18 seasons plus several spin-offs and extra bits of content.

Because of its nature as a comedy series, the jokes are plentiful throughout the series from Caboose’s stupidity to Donut’s pink armor. With the lengthy stay in the public consciousness, the Rooster Teeth crew made the series full of one-off jokes and running gags. These running gags consist of just a basic line being repeated to the same situations arising every few seasons.

The music industry has long been the choking, gagging, barely surviving canary in the dank and dirty coal mine of entertainment's digital transformation.
The good news: the music business is kinda back! Admittedly, it took a decade for the choking and gagging to ease. Revenues from streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music finally made up for all the money lost when people stopped buying physical copies of songs. Now streaming comprises 80% of the $9.8 billion business.
Along the way, though, the industry's near-death experience forced a lot of innovation and entrepreneurship, most particularly in so-called 360 deals between a label and the performers it signs.
Rather than just relying on a cut of those vanishing music sales, labels had to look more holistically at their performers' careers, investing in and profiting from such areas as touring, publishing, licensing, and merchandise. The name of such deals refers to 360 degrees, as in all-encompassing.

If you’ve been on the scene long enough to remember those Halo Lan parties from the days of the original Xbox, then odds are you’ve been waiting for a substantial live action adaptation for quite some time. I mean, we’ve had various web series and the comedic Red vs. Blue to digest in the time since, but that doesn’t change the fact that a major motion picture or a network TV series have eluded us.
In fact, there’s been word that Showtime was ready to give gamers their reward for some time, but aside from progress reports here and there, there hasn’t been anything too concrete to speak of. Fortunately, that all changes today.
As it turns out, Kyle Killen (Awake) will help spearhead the 10-episode, one-hour drama for Showtime, with Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) being hired to direct multiple episodes and executive produce.

Rooster Teeth is giving its biggest fans an inside look at its early days. The digital content studio has shared a teaser for Why We're Here, a documentary that explores the 15-year history of the Austin-based company.
The teaser, narrated by Rooster Teeth co-founder Burnie Burns, traces the company's origins back to a small town in Texas, where it was founded in 2003. From there, Why We're Here will recount the major events that shaped Rooster Teeth, including the launch of major productions like Red Vs. Blue, Lazer Team, and Rwby as well as the establishment of the annual Rtx conference, which takes place each year in Austin. The documentary takes its name from the first episode of Red Vs. Blue, which first arrived online way back in 2003.

Reconstruction is the sixth season of the perseveringly long-running web series Red vs. Blue, the machinima sitcom based on the popular Halo video game franchise. It was released online in 2008 and consists of 19 short episodes (5 to 8 minutes, with the exception of the longer 10-minute finale) depicting the further chronicles of gamers' favorite buffoons cum space marines.
My feelings on the Red vs Blue concept as a whole was already stated on my review for the Red vs. Blue: The Blood Gulch Chronicles box set, which contained all of the first 100 episodes—or five seasons—of the series. It's pretty much more of the same here, although the creators from Rooster Teeth have obviously grown an ambition or two. Though set within the same universe, Reconstruction is not a direct continuation of the stories told in the first five seasons, not really, but rather the beginning of a new saga in Red vs.

You can't toss a rock up in the air over a city street without braining someone who has definite but vague ideas about how new electronic media is going to "change everything." And of course they're mostly right, while at the same time you wish you could do that all day -- toss that rock, brain those people. Movies are still movies, pop songs are still pop, crummy TV shows are still crummy, etc. (The big change is now we expect to get it all for free.) Yet some things have arisen spontaneously, like mushrooms, from the keyboard-console-screen mode of cultural intercourse we're so enjoying. The epic new, remastered, five-season box set collecting Red vs. Blue: The Blood Gulch Chronicles is a perfect example.

"Red vs. Blue" was one of the earliest and most popular machinima series on the web. Using in-game assets from the original "Halo," the series creator, Burnie Burns (who voices Church), Matt Hullum (who plays Sarge), along with a handful of their friends, created a story around a bunch of bumbling soldiers killing time in a box canyon. The rest, as they say, is history.
GameStop has commissioned the crew, known as Rooster Teeth, to create "Halo 3: Odst"-themed episodes featuring the "Red vs. Blue" characters. I spoke to Burns and Hullum about the project, as well as their early roots.
Burns started by talking about the early days of "Red vs. Blue":
"We started the main series in 2003 and they just got really popular and Microsoft gave us a call. Of course when the phone rang and it was Microsoft on the line we thought, "Well, that that was a good run!
