S.P.D.’s unusual jump forward in the timeline (previously each season had more or less matched it years of airing) was so the show could tell stories about an Earth that, to quote the shows first episode, “has become a haven for all alien races who come from the farthest reaches of the galaxy.”

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always referenced “J.J.”, a very important character in the lives of Katherine Hillard and Tommy Oliver. The Power Rangers reunion brought back some of the original Power Rangers and introduced a new Mighty Morphin lineup. Power Rangers has a new Yellow Ranger after Power Rangers: Once & Always’ ending battle, but the special also teased another legacy character.

When Kat was summoned by Alpha 9 through the Bandora Protocol, the second Pink Ranger mentioned that J.J. was in class. Toward the end of Power Rangers: Once & Always, Kat commented that being a mother to J.J. can be more challenging than saving the planet from Rita Repulsa. Katherine Hillard and Tommy Oliver are married at this point in the Power Rangers timeline.

The "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always" anniversary special is a pure treat for the fans. Unlike the previous crossover specials, which had the current generation of Rangers team up with older ones for some emergent threat, this special focuses solely on the first show — the titular Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and its two generations of Rangers that actually met and interacted 30 years ago. Because of this, "Once & Always" has the ability to go more specific in its references, and its loving tributes.

Indeed, this is a love letter to the franchise as a whole, as the script considers the entire canon of "Power Rangers," both the multiple iterations of the show — like Aisha and Adam now being part of the predecessors of Space Patrol Delta from "Power Rangers S.P.D." — to even the expanded canon like the mention of J.J. The firm's profit increased from $5.8 million to $19.8 million year-over-year. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization jumped 28% to $65.5 million. Amsterdam-listed Jetix, which is majority owned by the Walt Disney Co., said revenue from its channel and online operations grew 14% to $144.5 million, of which subscription revenue accounted for $94 million, a leap of 13%.
