Hulu has to be pretty pleased with its list of new releases for June 2024. That’s because it’s about to be the summer of The Bear once again.
The Bear season 3 premieres all of its episodes on June 27 on Hulu. This FX dramedy has proven to be one of the most successful shows of its era. Jeremy Allen White stars as Carmy Berzatto, a world-famous chef who returns home to Chicago to help his floundering family restaurant after the death of his brother. Season 2 saw The Original Beef of Chicagoland crew transform the spot into fine dining establishment The Bear. It ruled. So will season 3 probably.
FX is responsible for the other major TV release on Hulu this month. Clipped premieres on June 4 and is about the scandalous real life story of Donald Sterling, the awful owner of the basketball team the Los Angeles Clippers. Another intriguing TV option...

June is busting out all over, especially on streaming. Whether it’s hiding from the heat or taking a break from school and work, Disney+ and Hulu are here to satisfying your mid-year entertainment needs.
Disney+ will premiere the first new live-action Star Wars since 2023’s middling to “The Mandalorian” Season 3 and “Ahsoka” with “The Acolyte,” starring “Squid Game” breakout Lee Jung-jae. The series is set before the events of “The Phantom Menace” with a familiar master-padawan storyline but new characters and a new era where that dynamic unfolds. The streamer will also premiere various new options for kids and family-friendly programming, as well as new episodes of “Doctor Who” starring Ncuti Gatwa.
On Hulu, FX comes in hot for the summer, along with an adaptation of Candice Carty-Williams’s “Queenie,” the brat-pack documentary “Brats,” and yes — more “Love Island.” The TV and film library continues to shift with new and expiring titles,...

For most performers, building up a resume of over 150 projects is something that takes an entire lifetime to achieve, but for James Franco that is a feat he has accomplished at just 45 years old. This Freaky Geek was catapulted to fame in one of biggest comic book franchises of all time before settling in to his role as a performer who can take on any genre and any film no matter how big or small. But with a tremendous rise at such a young age, sometimes you don’t make the best decisions. For Franco, those bad decisions would come to light on the very night of his greatest professional achievement and begin a downfall that is sadly all too common in today’s world. At one point putting out up to 12 projects a year, Franco has taken a backseat as allegations against him began to pile up. It is...

Marvel Studios has a bunch of new movies lined up, even though they’ve had some struggles with recent projects. Despite Iger saying they might slow down on releasing stuff because fans are getting tired of lower-quality shows and movies. But Spider-Man is still a big draw for them. It’s the most profitable Marvel franchise, no matter what.
Speaking of Spider-Man, in the MCU, there are already three standalone movies, and another one is on the way. Producer Amy Pascal confirmed this a while back. She said they were working on the sequel, but had to stop because of the WGA Strike. There were rumors going around a few months ago that the same director, Watts, would come back for the fourth one. But then people started saying Drew Goddard might take over instead.
Lately, there’s been talk that Jon Watts might not be directing ‘Spider-Man 4’ after losing a disagreement with Feige.

MCU has quite a slate of movies coming up, even though Marvel Studios has hit a rough patch with the last couple of projects. There have been talks about releasing fewer projects, as fans are definitely becoming tired of shows and movies of lower quality; still, if one character always managed to drag people to movies, it’s Spider-Man, by far the most profitable Marvel franchise, no matter the product you’re looking at.
So far, talking about the MCU specifically, Spider-Man has three standalone movies and a fourth on the way. This was confirmed several months ago by producer Amy Pascal, who confirmed that the work on the sequel has been ongoing but stopped due to the solidarity with the ongoing WGA Strike at the time. Justin Lin may be the foremost director of the "Fast and Furious" franchise, but he's taking a break from the Hollywood big leagues for his next film: an indie movie about the misguided missionary John Allen Chau. Before helming half of the entries in one of the most successful blockbuster series in modern times, Lin directed indie movies that centered on the Asian-American communities of Southern California, including the quirky comedy "Shopping for Fangs" and the Sundance Grand Jury Prize-nominated "Better Luck Tomorrow."
Lin directed "Shopping for Fangs" with Quentin Lee when they were both students in UCLA's film school in 1997. The film marks the acting debut of John Cho, who would go on to work with Lin on his follow-up feature, "Better Luck Tomorrow," as well as years later on "Star Trek Beyond." Amazon’s series version of “A League of Their Own” will debut its eight-episode first season on Aug. 12, introducing new characters and stories set in the historical opening of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League (Aagpbl).

Other new film arrivals include hits from earlier this summer, “The Lost City” starring Sandra Bullock, Daniel Radcliffe, Channing Tatum and Brad Pitt, as well as “Sonic the Hedgehog 2.” Academy Award-nominated film “Licorice Pizza” also arrives on Prime Video this month.

Taiwanese-born American filmmaker Justin Lin has directed five of the nine films in The Fast Saga already, including its lowest of lows (2009's Fast & Furious) and its highest of highs (2011's Fast Five). With Fast 9, known as just F9 or Fast & Furious 9, the auteur of automotive action returns to the franchise for the first time since 2013's Fast & Furious 6 for what is, arguably, the most ridiculous entry in a series that routinely pushes the limits of logic, physics, and heavy-handed family melodrama. Co-written by Lin and franchise newcomer Daniel Casey, F9 begins in 1989, with professional stock car driver Jack Toretto (J.D. Pardo) burnin' up the track at a speedway, his sons Dominic (Vinnie Bennett) and Jakob (Finn Cole) in his crew. During the race, a rival (Jim Parrack) smashes into Jack's bumper, causing the stock car to hit ...

The Good Doctor star and producer Freddie Highmore has sold the first project under the overall deal he recently signed with the studio behind the popular ABC medical drama, Sony Pictures TV. Love, Dad, an hourlong drama from Highmore’s Alfresco Pictures and Sony TV, has been put in development at ABC.
Written by Dave Collard, Love, Dad is described as an emotional family drama that is centered around adult siblings from a blue-collar family in the most blue-collar of cities — Buffalo, New York. As the siblings navigate the ups and downs of their lives, they’re aided (and sometimes impeded) by each other, but also an unlikely source — their dead father, who has left them each an email account that he’s been writing to for their entire lives, so that he would always be there for them… even when he wasn’t.
Collard will executive produce with Highmore.

Dave Collard has been hired to script the CIA thriller “Neither Confirm Nor Deny,” set up with Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Films and New Sparta Films, Variety has learned.
The project originated last year when the producers acquired movie rights to the David H. Sharp book “The CIA’s Greatest Covert Operation: Inside the Daring Mission to Recover a Nuclear-Armed Soviet Sub.”
The book details the aftermath of the Soviet nuclear submarine K-129 sinking in the Pacific Ocean in 1968 in 16,000 feet of water. Despite a massive secret search, the Soviets never found their missing submarine – but the Americans located it as the CIA hatched Azorian, the code name for a six-year operation to bring up the sub and its secrets, using a cover story involving ocean mining fronted by the reclusive billionaire Howard Hughes.
When their cover was blown by press coverage, the CIA’s response was “We can neither confirm nor deny.

His vision as a filmmaker and actor is showcased in “The Disaster Artist” as well as HBO’s “The Deuce,” and he’s receiving the Vanguard Award for film. Seth Rogen, who produced “The Disaster Artist” and has been friends with Franco for years, shares his thoughts here on collaborating with his actor friend:
So, before I start this story, I just wanna say that, first, I get that it kind of has an element of me, like, explaining that I thought of a funny joke. So I get that. I’m not, like, oblivious to that. But it’s mostly a story about how great Franco is and what he taught me and all that, so just hang tight.

"Meet George Jetson!" For years and years, we've been writing about the hope/possibility of one day seeing a live-action Jetsons movies. At one point, Robert Rodriguez was attached to a version in development at Warner Bros, but it never came together. Now we can get a different glimpse at what a movie might be like. Engineering firm Arconic hired filmmaker Justin Lin (Annapolis, Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious 4-6, Star Trek Beyond) to make a 60-second commercial for them reimagining The Jetsons set in the year 2062. It's actually pretty cool to see, but it's clearly just an advertisement (showing off lots of engineering innovation) and they also clearly only have the rights to The Jetsons song, so it's all just for fun. Still worth a quick look. Found on YouTube (via SlashFilm). Description from the Arconic website: "Arconic has reimagined the year 2062 through the eyes of leading futurists, our engineers and filmmaker Justin Lin.

There’s been a lot talk recently regarding the feud between Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel while shooting Fast 8. Johnson had some harsh words for his co-star calling him a "chicken shit" and a ”candy ass.” The two actors have since buried the hatchet and are getting along again. A studio source told THR:
"What happened is over, and no one expects there to be any lingering effects. When it comes time to promote the movie, this will have no bearing."
These two actors aren’t the only ones that have had issues while shooting a film or TV project. There are several others, and I thought I’d look up a few of them. I’ve come up with seven feuds between actors, and a few of them were pretty surprising.

The Notebook, Knocked Up and Magic Mike will never be the same again. Moviegoers might be shocked to learn that some of their favorite films have almost been overshadowed by on-set drama between cast and crew members - but the reality of it is: it's more common than one would think. A fast and fervorous guide beyond the basics.
Justin Lin, like his old UCLA classmate Joe Russo, is a member of the modern generation of Hollywood directors who make us really enjoy franchise filmmaking. Enough to get excited for the Fast and Furious movies after they’d seemed driven into a dead end and now to find a new hope in Star Trek with his satisfying takeover of that series. He soon may have us even caring about Space Jam.
The Taiwan-born Lin has also been an important voice for Asian-American representation, both on screen and off. He broke out with a great indie, Better Luck Tomorrow, and went on to become a valuable asset as a studio player, for both the industry and the fans. We honor his talent and his output below by sharing advice and guidance gleaned from statements he’s made through his career.

Howdy ladies and gentleman For this week’s spotlight piece, I wanted to go ahead and take a look at a rather unique A-lister. Someone who vacillates between humongous Hollywood blockbusters and odd little independent films, always doing his own thing. The A-lister in question? None other than James Franco. He’s many things to many people, but he’s unquestionably a star. He’s given a few incredibly good performances, but he’s never a boring actor to watch. He’s easily one of Tinseltown’s most interesting actors to follow. Almost constantly engaging in some form of art, Franco is at his core, just that…an artist. He may be a bit of a weirdo to some, but he’s an A-lister regardless and deserves this tribute. Franco wasn’t always considered a “weird” star. He got his start basically as a heartthrob. He first came on to...

Actors don't often trash their own movies, but when they do, it's usually a cathartic experience for film goers. After all, it's one thing to think "The Happening" was a bad movie; it's quite another to have those thoughts confirmed by the film's star, Mark Wahlberg. ("It was a bad movie that I did.") Ahead, 10 instances of actors bashing their films, from Wahlberg and Shia Labeouf to Katherine Heigl and Shia Labeouf. (Shia does this a lot.)
Shia Labeouf on "Indiana Jones & The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull": "I think the audience is pretty intelligent. I think they know when you've made [a bad movie]. Next week's release of Fast & Furious 6 marks Tyrese Gibson's third big screen appearance as Roman Pearce. The actor made his franchise debut in 2003's 2 Fast 2 Furious and then returned to the role for 2011's Fast Five . It was between these two projects, working on the Naval Academy drama Annapolis , that Gibson first met director Justin Lin and, as he explains in the interview below, just might have helped contribute to Lin becoming a Fast & Furious four-time director. In addition to his work in the speed-fueled franchise, Gibson is well known for appearing in the first three films of Michael Bay's Transformers series and hopes to return as Epps for Transformers 4 . When he's not performing for the camera, Gibson is a Grammy-nominated musician with a new...

James Franco has been in a few stinkers through the years -- but there's one movie even he admits is pure trash. So, which movie does the star of such poorly-rated flicks as "Tristan & Isolde," "Annapolis," "Flyboys" and "Eat Pray Love" cite as a career low point? The answer: "Your Highness."The medieval comedy, which costarred Natalie Portman, Danny McBride and Zooey Deschanel, was released in 2011 and currently has a horrible 26% on Rotten Tomatoes.“Your Highness? That movie sucks. You can’t get around that," Franco says in the June issue of GQ.This isn't the first time that Franco has publicly criticized one of his own films. While promoting "Spring Breakers," James told Badass Digest that "Annapolis" was "a really bad movie" -- adding that "it didn't turn out very well" and he "ended up not liking the experience and not liking the movie."Ouch, biting the hand that feeds much?...

No one will ever accuse James Franco of sugarcoating things after he admitted that at least one of his movies "sucks."
The 35-year-old graces the cover of GQ's June 2013 issue, and he got quite candid with the magazine about his image and career.
"My public persona is something that is only partially constructed by me, so if people want to mock that, it's fine. I mock it," he told GQ.
And his persona is not the only thing he's open to mocking. The Oscar-nominated actor is well aware that not every project he's worked on has been a good one. "'Your Highness'? That movie sucks," he admitted. "You can't get around that."
Franco's comments likely won't sit well with the film's director, David Gordon Green, who referred to the film as his "baby" and seemed pretty proud of his work when he spoke to HuffPost Entertainment in April:...

Justin Lin is ready to respond to James Franco. In an interview with The Huffington Post, the Fast & Furious 6 director opened up about how it felt to hear Franco call their 2006 drama, Annapolis, a "bad movie" while the actor was making the publicity rounds for Spring Breakers. Justin Lin has achieved mass success by directing the last four installments of "The Fast and the Furious" franchise, including the newest entry, "Fast and Furious 6," which opens May 24. Before his relationship with Dom Toretto started in earnest however, Lin was best known for the 2002 Sundance Film Festival favorite "Better Luck Tomorrow." That film's indie success earned Lin his first studio job as director of 2006's "Annapolis."
As Lin tells it, he wouldn't be where he is as a filmmaker without "Annapolis." Sure, he's aware that the film -- about boxers at the Naval Academy -- wasn't embraced by audiences or critics, but the effort and experience allowed Lin to grow as a director. Lin has a sentimental bond with "Annapolis," which is why he's having trouble wrapping his head around some recent comments made by the film's star, James Franco.

For as varied as the career of James Franco is, it's important to find a way to keep track of all the different projects the actor has taken on in his year's on screen. Luckily, the folks over at Film.com have assembled this helpful Francography chart to compare and contrast the various roles.
The graph works is an interesting way to see how far Franco has gone in the direction of any one of the four axes. The chart essentially ranges from "Annapolis" to "Milk," but scoping out the in-between is so much fun.

All roads lead to this. We're still counting down the debut of the first actual footage from Universal's Fast Six sequel, but Vin Diesel has decided to one-up them and drop the first teaser poster for the movie on his Facebook (via ComingSoon). Fast Five director Justin Lin is attached to direct yet another movie called Hibernation, a sci-fi thriller written by newcomers Geneva Robertson and Will Frank.
There aren't many details on the plot surrounding the movie, but producer Troy Craig Poon describes it as a dynamic futuristic thriller, saying that the "story is fresh, inventive and one we found immensely compelling."
Lin is currently working on Fast Six. He's also set to direct a sci-fi comedy called Subdivision, a movie about the L.A. Riots, a film called Lone Wolf and Cub, and an adaptation of the David Henry Hwang Broadway play Chinglish. So the director is packing on the film projects to keep himself busy.

Vin Diesel released a couple of new images from Fast 6 on his Facebook page, featuring himself Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson. Apparently these are shots from the film that we'll end up seeing in the trailer.
The movie is currently shooting under the director of Justin Lin (Annapolis, Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious, Fast Five). This time around Vin Diesel and Paul Walker are headed to London with the usual suspects to pull off some kind of heist, and they're also on the run from Johnson and his team who are trying to trake them down after letting them go in Fast 5.
The movie is set to be released on May 24th, 2013, and also stars Michelle Rodriguez, Luke Evans, Joe Taslim, and Gina Carano. Are you looking forward to the next installment of this franchise? I am!

Last month the first official photo from the set of Fast & Furious 6 surfaced with Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and director Justin Lin having a good ole time. Now some new photos from the film get a little more intense. Director Justin Lin, who is currently busy filming the sixth entry in the Fast & Furious franchise, is lining up a bit of a departure for a future project. Per Vulture, the Fast Five helmer is in talks to direct the racially charged drama L.A. Riots. The project has been in the works for years, and originally Spike Lee was set to direct the pic before postponing the project due to budget issues. Now it appears that Lee is off the film altogether, and Lin may be the guy to finally get this thing into production. Hit the jump for more. The story centers on the 1992 riots in Los Angeles that erupted after a jury acquitted four Lapd officers accused in the beating of Rodney King, which was caught on video. The riots lasted over six days and left 53 people dead. This is certainly touchy subject matter, and Lin isn't exactly...

A couple of years back, Justin Lin was a director who worked constantly, but was seen as a fairly mid-level guy: his debut "Better Luck Tomorrow" was well regarded critically, but follow-ups like "Annapolis" and his work on the third and fourth "Fast & Furious" movies were much more coolly received. But then came his third turn on the road-racing franchise "Fast Five," and the film was both a monster hit and surprisingly popular with critics -- and so it should have been; it's easily the best of the series, with excellently handled action and a playful spirit, suggesting Lin had finally found his groove. As such, it's made the director a hot property, and alongside the currently-filming "Fast & Furious 6," Lin has won the gig of helming the next "Terminator" movie, assuming it gets off the ground, as well as an adaptation of Manga "Lone Wolf & Cub." But it looks like Lin (who's also.

Director Justin Lin has acquired the film rights to playwright David Henry Hwang’s 2011 stage work “Chinglish.” Lin, who most recently directed Universal’s $626-million-grossing actioner “Fast Five,” will direct and produce the project through his Barnstorm Pictures banner. Hwang will adapt the screenplay. "As soon as I saw ‘Chinglish’ on Broadway, I began to envision this smart and insightful cross-cultural comedy as a film,” said Lin. Hwang will co-produce the project with Bobbi Thompson. The smaller-scale comedy project is a change of pace for Lin, who has spent the better part of the past decade helming mainstream studio fare such as three of the “Fast and the Furious” films and the 2006 Disney action drama “Annapolis.” He also has flirted recently with directing the next film in the “Terminator” franchise and a reboot of “Highlander,” and he’s directed...
