Vin Diesel has been known to use his Instagram to update fans on his upcoming projects, even when there isn't really anything official on the horizon. In a retrospective post, he has now shared surprising new updates on many possible new projects coming down the line, from a new xXx movie, the next Riddick installment, and a possible solo Groot movie from Marvel Studios.
A day after the Oscars ceremony, Diesel took to Instagram to update his followers on a few of his projects, but the one that stood out the most - because previously it was little more than a passing wish-list suggestion - was Planet X, which would be a new solo Marvel movie featuring Guardians of the Galaxy favorite, Groot. After mentioning speaking with Lionsgate about The Last Witch Hunter and when to fit playing xXx's Xander Cage again into his schedule, Diesel wrote, "Also, Disney wants their Planet X!

Jackie Dinorscio personally chose Vin Diesel to play him in Find Me Guilty, showcasing an unexpected but powerful performance from the action star. Diesel underwent a physical transformation, gained weight, and studied footage to mimic Dinorscio's movements and mannerisms for an authentic portrayal. The passing of Dinorscio before the film finished filming added a deeper responsibility for Diesel to represent the real man's philosophy and loyalty.
Vin Diesel stars in the 2006 drama Find Me Guilty, playing real-life gangster Jackie Dinorscio, who had some thoughts on his portrayal. Directed by Sidney Lumet in his second to final film before he passed away, Find Me Guilty tells the real story of the longest mafia trial in American history wherein 20 people are accused of Mafia-related crimes. While every other defendant has a lawyer present, one defendant, Jackie Dinorscio, decides to represent himself, earning the respect of the court, his fellow accused, the present lawyers,...

Paul Newman's best movies span nearly half a century, showcasing his talent as both a leading man and an aged mentor or antihero. His widely renowned filmography earned him nine Oscar nominations, including a single win for Best Actor, and numerous other honors recognizing his many exceptional screen performances. From Cars to Cool Hand Luke, Paul Newman's roles reflect hope and chaos in period settings and a changing contemporary America, leaving a lasting impact on audiences.
Appearing in Oscar winners, Hollywood trailblazers, and all-time classics, Paul Newman starred in some truly memorable films, and his very best movies cover a span of nearly half a century. Mr. Vin Diesel has made a name for himself playing monotone bruisers; big guys who look like they want to smash your skull in if you get in your way. But he's also a family man when it comes to the "Fast and Furious" films. He's also been a talking tree, a sci-fi warrior, a mobster, a military grunt in a Steven Spielberg movie, and more. While Diesel seems solely committed to playing Dom in the "Furious" saga these days, we shouldn't forget about his other work, some of which is quite good (and others ... not).
To get to the bottom of what Diesel's best role is, we here at /Film asked our readers to weigh in. Then we compiled the results in a special, massive supercomputer. The results may actually surprise you. They kind of surprised me! So let's take a look at Vin Diesel's best roles, starting at the bottom.

Fast X sees several new and high-profile stars join the action-packed franchise as they battle it out with the Toretto family. The Vin Diesel-starrer is touted as the penultimate installment in the Fast & Furious series wrapping up the story of Dominic “Dom” Toretto and his crew that began all the way back in 2001’s The Fast and the Furious. While frequent franchise collaborator Justin Lin shares writing credits, Fast X is directed by The Incredible Hulk and Now You See Me’s Louis Leterrier.
Like many Fast & Furious films, Fast X features old and new entrants to the franchise with many of them being direct relatives of Dom’s. This includes his son Brian and even his grandmother Abuelita. True to the franchise’s usual tropes, many past villains also return but as allies to Dom and his friends. Dom’s brother Jakob and former black ops...

Besides his work on the 1978 Diana Ross and Michael Jackson-starring cult classic "The Wiz," I know the late, great director Sidney Lumet for his legal/courtroom dramas such tas "The Verdict" and "Find Me Guilty." I was first introduced to such works in college when a criminal justice professor showed my class Lumet's first feature film, "12 Angry Men." The movie allows viewers to become flies on the wall as a jury who, on the hottest day of the year, is sent into the deliberation room to unanimously decide whether to send an 18-year-old murder suspect to the electric chair.
Though the then 33-year-old Lumet had the simple goal of just getting his first feature film under his belt, "12 Angry Men" would go on to become one of the director's greatest films. For me, a feature about 12 hot and sweaty jurors doing their civic duty in a cramped...

It’s that time of year when film awards ballots are going out. Here’s some advice for voters: make sure you see Netflix’s “The Guilty” before voting. It’s a great piece of filmmaking, and Jake Gyllenhaal gives one of the year’s best performances.
However, try not to read about the film. There will be no spoilers in this column, but as Gyllenhaal tells Variety, “It’s important that people approach this movie without too much information.”
Here’s what is safe to report: It takes place in a 911 call center, in a short period of time, with Gyllenhaal’s character Joe Baylor dealing with individuals who are lost, strung out and/or desperate, all while L.A. firefighters are battling a wildfire that complicates everything.
“Guilty” is impressive at any level, but especially considering the degree of difficulty. It was shot in 11 days, with Antoine Fuqua remote-directing from a nearby van,...

The limited series “Maid” debuted on Netflix on October 1. The 10-hour drama stars Margaret Qualley as Alex, a mother stuck in the title profession after she leaves her abusive husband. So it’s not exactly an escapist binge, but is it worthy of a watch? It’s adapted from Stephanie Land’s memoir of the same name, and so far the “Maid” reviews are stellar.
As of this writing the series has a MetaCritic score of 84 based on nine reviews counted, all of which are positive, with none classified negative or even mixed. So it’s not surprising that on Rotten Tomatoes, which categorizes reviews simply as positive or negative, the film has a perfect 100% score thus far, also based on nine positive reviews.

Certain jobs necessitate a wide range of energy and mental fortitude. Being a 911 dispatcher, for example, is undoubtedly one of the most emotionally and mentally draining jobs. The Guilty, Antoine Fuqua's new thriller, is a remake of the 2018 Danish thriller of the same name. It depicts a day in the life of Officer Joe Baylor, a 911 dispatcher who attempts to help a kidnapped woman. The film is filled with overwhelming anxiety and tension while also sparking a discussion about mental health and the lack of help available in some cases.
Nothing could have prepared Joe Baylor (Jake Gyllenhaal) for what was to come as he began his night shift in LA's 911 dispatch call center. He not only has to deal with the stress of his job, but he also struggles in his personal life and an upcoming court case. The gradually increasing tension begins when Joe answers a 911 call from a distressed woman,...

From a storytelling perspective, Antoine Fuqua's "The Guilty" is pretty good. How could it not be? It's following the original film that inspired it beat by beat. This "The Guilty" may not be a shot-by-shot remake akin to Gus Van Sant's fascinating, flawed "Psycho" experiment, but it might as well be. Here, Fuqua and company are sticking close to the 2018 Danish film, and if you've seen that movie, you've more or less seen this one, too. With that in mind, the new "Guilty" cranks out tense, claustrophobic scenes in the same fashion. But what we have here is also something...

The newest trailer for Netflix's upcoming thriller The Guilty teases another powerhouse performance from celebrated talent Jake Gyllenhaal. The Academy Award nominated actor stars as a troubled police detective demoted to 911 operator duty, who scrambles to save a distressed caller during a harrowing day of revelations and reckonings.
The events of The Guilty take place over the course of a single morning in a 911 dispatch call center. Call operator Joe Bayler (Jake Gyllenhaal) tries to save a caller in grave danger, but he soon discovers that nothing is as it seems, and facing the truth is the only way out. Mostly made up of close-ups of both Gyllenhaal's concerned expression and his computer monitor, The Guiltyshould provide Netflix viewers with a minimal, but no less emotional thrill ride.
The project sees Gyllenhaal team up once again with Southpaw director Antoine Fuqua for this remake of the outstanding Danish thriller of the same name,...

One call changes everything in Netflix’s “The Guilty.” Director Antoine Fuqua’s thriller follows a police officer turned call center operator whose shift turns into a nightmare. The real-time narrative slowly reveals its secrets in an overtly claustrophobic office setting. This project also reunites the filmmaker with actor Jake Gyllenhaal; the pair last worked together on the boxing drama “Southpaw.”

With February 29th fast approaching – this is a Leap Year, remember – Netflix is preparing to roll out a fresh helping of new content for March 2020.
It’s a familiar combination of original series, time-honored classics and beloved franchise films, with next month set to herald the arrival of Resident Evil: Apocalypse and its undead sequel, Extinction. Sure, it’s a far cry from the quality and craft of The Lord of the Rings – speaking of which, both the Twin Towers and The Return of the King will be departing Netflix in four weeks’ time – but the saga of Alice still carved out an audience to call its own.
Also peppered throughout Netflix’s March 2020 catalog are some big-name horror titles and edge-of-your-seat thrillers, including Signs and the third season of Ozark. And then there’s the third season of Castlevania, which, it’s fair to say, has been a long time coming.

Here's what's new on Netflix in March 2020! We've got a complete list of what's leaving, too.
Normally the big story for each month of Netflix new releases are the exciting batch of Netflix original series and movies arriving. For Netflix's new releases for March 2020, things are a little bit different. Yes, there are some cool originals here but...look at those movies!
March 1 sees the arrival of Corpse Bride, The Shawshank Redemption, There Will Be Blood, and Goodfellas! Martin Scorsese likely can't unilaterally decide when and where his movies stream, but it is a happy coincidence that Goodfellas will now exist alongside The Irishman.
As for those Netflix originals...Ozark is the biggest returning hit in March. The story of a very corrupt family airs its third season on March 27. Also of note are Castlevania season 3 (March 5), Altered Carbon: Resleeved (March 19). But really after Goodfellas, nothing else was really necessary.

Netflix is out with its list of everything coming and going in March, and highlights include “Ozark” Season 3, coming March 27, and the Brazilian version of the popular reality competition “The Circle,” coming March 11.
There’s good news and bad news. The good news is we’re gaining some beloved mid-2000s films, like “He’s Just Not That Into You,” “Valentine’s Day” and “Silver Linings Playbook,” “Corpse Bride” and “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events,” plus some ’90s favorites like “Space Jam” and “GoodFellas.”
The bad news is that throughout the month we’re losing “Black Panther,” “Eat Pray Love,” “The Waterboy,” “P.S. I Love You,” “Batman Begins,” both “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” and “The Two Towers,” and “Kill Bill” Volumes 1 and 2.

The doctor is in! Lovable lunatic Faust returns in 2020's new Guilty Gear game, but...he ain't looking so good.
For over twenty years, the Guilty Gear series has been synonymous with amazing visuals and ridiculous character designs in the realm of fighting games. Well, that and head-scratching titles. This is the series that gave us such games as Guilty Gear Xx Accent Core Plus R and Guilty Gear Xrd: Sign. In this week’s edition of Canon Of Film, we take a look Sidney Lumet‘s hypnotic ‘Murder on the Orient Express‘ just in time for the release of Kenneth Branagh‘s remake of the same name. For the story behind the genesis of the Canon, you can click here.
Murder On The Orient Express (1974)
Director: Sidney Lumet
Screenplay: Paul Dehn based on the novel by Agatha Christie (uncredited)
Strangely, the detective story is actually a fairly newer genre when compared to others, in terms of literary history, it is, and the inventor of the genre is not who you’d think it’d be either, it was Edgar Allen Poe, with his trilogy of C. Auguste Dupin stories, ‘The Murder of the Rue Morgue‘, ‘The Mystery of Marie Roget,’ and my favorite, ‘The Purloined Letter‘ back in the 1840s. I’m not sure why this genre didn’t pick up until then,...

This cinematic equivalent of drool is the third in the series that started in 2002 by introducing Vin Diesel as Xander Cage, an extreme sports badass recruited by an Nsa boss (Samuel L. Vin Diesel is ready to belt out his favorite songs on Carpool Karaoke. The XXX star visited The Late Late Show with host James Corden on Wednesday night, when he happily broke out into a thick Cockney British accent.
Watch: Bruno Mars Bringing '24K Magic' to James Corden's 'Carpool Karaoke'
“I don’t know if you’re doing an accent or auditioning for Oliver Twist,” Corden quipped.
“That’s funny that you say that. There was a scene in this movie where I come into the coffee shop and I’m singing, ‘Consider yourself at home!’” Diesel sang in the accent.
As Corden sang along and the audience cheered, the actor stood up and asked, “How many of you wish you could do Carpool Karaoke? Am I entitled? Can I get a shot here? Can I do Carpool Karaoke? Can I do it in New York City in my hometown?”

Vin Diesel reflects on xXx, the death of Paul Walker, and the impact on his career of Sidney Lumet...
Hollywood may have been built on the cult of the movie star, but in an industry now dominated by branded franchises like Star Wars, Marvel and Bond, it’s notable how rare they’ve become. For all the millions raked in by Iron Man and Star Wars movies, audiences don’t turn out for Robert Downey Jr. or Harrison Ford, they come to watch Tony Stark and Han Solo.
In this climate, there are perhaps a handful of actors who can draw audience based on nothing more than their presence in a movie, and perhaps none more successful than Vin Diesel. Since his breakthrough role in Pitch Black, Diesel has been the leading man in two blockbuster franchises: The Fast And The Furious and Riddick, and with xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage,...

I like Vin Diesel. He is an enormously likable person when you meet him face-to-face, and much of what makes him so charismatic in person is communicated clearly through his on-screen presence in the 34 films he's made since he wrote and directed and starred in his short film "Multi-Facial" back in 1995. That short film eventually got him a lot of attention in Hollywood, but by far, the best reaction was the one that Steven Spielberg had. He was preparing to shoot his film "Saving Private Ryan," and he had screenwriter Frank Darabont create and incorporate a new character named Private Caparzo specifically so he could cast Diesel in the film and work with him. A year later, Brad Bird was the first to make use of Vin's most unusual pipes as the voice of the title character in "The Iron Giant," something James Gunn did to such effective purpose in...

Actor Alex Rocco, best known for playing mobster Moe Green in the 1972 classic The Godfather, passed away on Saturday in his Studio City, California home at the age of 79. The actor's stepson, Sean Doyle, confirmed to The Los Angeles Times that the actor passed away after losing his battle with pancreatic cancer. The actor's long career spanned 50 years, with over 150 TV and film credits.
Alex Rocco was born Alessandro Federico Petricone Jr. in Boston, who caught the acting bug at the age of 30, when he took an acting class to meet women. After moving to Los Angeles, he took a class taught by Leonard Nimoy, who promptly kicked him out because he couldn't understand his thick Boston accent. He then enrolled in a speech class which transformed his Boston accent with a New York accent, which Leonard Nimoy said he could work with. He made his acting debut with the 1965 Russ Meyer film Motorpsycho!

Edging towards some sort of record for the most eclectic cast ever assembled, director Ang Lee has just added two more names to his roster for Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk. Vin Diesel and Chris Tucker have signed up to join Steve Martin, Garrett Hedlund, Kristen Stewart and newcomer Joe Alwyn. There's no indication of who either will be playing yet, but it's the first time Diesel has turned out for anything other than an action role (Groot nothwithstanding) since Find Me Guilty in 2006. On that occasion he was working for Sidney Lumet, so clearly he's amenable to taking a risk for the right director.Tucker, meanwhile, has been quiet since Silver Linings Playbook in 2012, partly thanks to a lifestyle change since his Jackie Brown / Rush Hour heyday. But it's an interesting footnote that he was previously part of another unusually varied cast in Luc Besson's The Fifth Element.

The Vatican Connection
Director: Michael Winterbottom // Writer: Paul Viragh
The incredibly prolific Michael Winterbottom had two 2014 titles, so we’re sure to see this latest project materialize before the end of the year, though major cast has not yet been announced since the news broke during the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. While The Trip to Italy was a light piece of entertainment, Winterbottom’s other 2014 title, The Face of an Angel, which played Venice and Toronto wasn’t as well received, even though it was a compelling take on how we adapt true crime stories to film. This latest, The Vatican Connection, seems to be in that vein, based on the real-life story of the NYPD detective who first uncovered the Vatican Bank’s links to the Mafia in the 1970s.

With all the major films that elbow their way into their cinemas every year, there's bound to be some casualties among the big hits. And just like any other year, 2006 was dominated by the likes of Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, The Da Vinci Code and Ice Age: The Meltdown. But in tandem, there were dozens of lesser-seen films which shuffled in and out of cinemas (or occasionally, didn't get a release in cinemas at all) without very many people noticing.
As we're sure you're aware by now, these lists aim to redress the balance a little, and hopefully introduce a few films from any given year that you may have missed. There are also one or two films that, although...
