Underrated, but not without it's problems.

Martian Gothic: Unification is one of the more interesting games I've come across lately. You're a crew of three, sent to Vita Base on Mars to investigate why there's not been reports or radio contact from the base for a long time. What you find will be much less than pleasant.

The story of this game is surprisingly good, and it certainly has quite a share of suspense coming with it. It's one of the very few story lines of a game that has managed to give me somewhat of a creepy feeling. I won't spoil anything, though.

The controls are very similar to the first Resident Evil, in other words, it takes a while to get used to. I've heard a lot of complaints about the controls before, but the controls is just something you should get used to, like I said, and you'll have a very enjoyable game, although you may want a walkthrough by your side, as there's many details you can easily miss, and the game is quite hard at times.

Graphics can differ a bit from person to person. There's 2 versions of this game, the PC version and the PS1 version. The PC version obviously has better graphics, but the graphics on the characters have always been strange looking to me. The background and details aren't too bad, though!

The problems I have with this game is it's annoying difficulty, somewhat cheap challenges, and the voice acting. The voice acting isn't something that drags the game a whole lot, but it certainly drags the story down just a bit, as I'd wish that the dialogue was a bit better acted. It would give much more suspense and more emotion to it all.

The last thing I want to mention is the music, which I think is very good. It has this creepy feeling to it, much like the rest of the game, and only makes the atmosphere of the game even better to experience.

Overall, 9/10. If you're willing to look over the issues, you'll have a great game.

Kenzo: [Kenzo] Is anybody there? Anyone alive, or dead? If you're dead... don't answer.

    • Alternate versions
The German PlayStation 1 version was censored, probably to avoid a "Not under 18" rating from the USK. All blood splatters were removed from the game.
