Jason Segel, Samara Weaving, Timothy Olyphant and Juliette Lewis are taking “The Trip.” Jorma Taccone, a member of the Lonely Island comedy group and co-director of “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping,” is directing from a script by Nick Kocher and Brian McElhaney (BriTANicK).

The film is a remake of Tommy Wirkola’s blood-soaked Norwegian action comedy from 2021 — “I onde dager,” starring Aksel Hennie and Noomi Rapace.

XYZ is financing the film and producing alongside 87North’s Kelly McCormick, Lee Kim and Guy Danella. Taccone and Wirkola are executive producing with Karen Gillan co-producing. Original producers Jørgen Storm Rosenberg and Kjetil Omberg will executive produce the new version of “The Trip.”

CBS hosted the event, allowing it to be televised live for viewers to revel in what their favorite soap stars were wearing and what they were doing.

The nominations this year were all over the board, and while we had our predictions, we weren’t sure who would actually take home the coveted awards.

California is making it rain for Quentin Tarantino as the acclaimed director prepares to set up shop for his final film, The Movie Critic, in the Golden State. The state granted $20,213,000 in California tax credits for Tarantino’s next feature. The hotly-anticipated film is one of 16 films conditionally approved for $7.8 million in tax incentives by the California Film Commission. Casting rumors for the film are currently making the rounds, creating an air of mystery around the legendary director’s next effort.

“I love shooting in California,” Tarantino said on Friday.

But in a new interview with Baz Bamigboye for Deadline, Tarantino revealed that Kael is not the inspiration for The Movie Critic. Exclusive: Oscar winning co-director/co-scribe/producer of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Rodney Rothman, and former MGM exec Adam Rosenberg, have inked a first look deal with Sony Pictures to develop, produce, write, and direct feature films through their company, Modern Magic.

Under their deal with the studio, Rothman and Rosenberg are developing a feature film based on an original idea by Emmy Award winner Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), with Emmy Award nominee Jonathan Krisel (Portlandia) attached to direct.

In an infinite sea of remakes and remasters, the latest re-release for the Nintendo Switch, Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe, doesn’t even qualify. It’s essentially a port, albeit with some added content, akin to the console’s best-selling Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe and Super Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Like those titles, Return to Dream Land acts as a second chance for a somewhat overlooked game to hit the gaming zeitgeist thanks to the colossal success of Nintendo’s hybrid handheld. Unlike those games, Kirby didn’t really need it.

"Saturday Night Live" will return to NBC for its 48th season starting on October 1, 2022. There's been a lot of activity behind the scenes with the loss of eight total cast members. The end of season 47 saw the exit of Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, Kyle Mooney, and Pete Davidson. It’s a style that works, mostly. Weird aims for the transcendent comedy of Popstar and Walk Hard but never quite succeeds to that degree; thus it qualifies as a modest disappointment. Undeniably funny, very well-acted, and wise in its tonal focus, Weird plays as entertainment that could have been much, much more. There is still much to admire and enjoy, not the least of which is a genuinely triumphant, note-perfect performance from Daniel Radcliffe.

A parody of rock biopics that celebrates its subject by completely trashing the facts of his life and career, Eric Appel’s Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is relentlessly silly, wholesome at heart and so stuffed with cameos it might give you the idea that a couple of generations of cool people love this guy.

Co-written by the artist (who also costars as a fickle record exec), it’s a kindred spirit to his songs without being so gag-hungry it forgets how to tell a story. Just like his music, it’s not for everybody, and to be sure, there will be few audiences as hungrily receptive as the one at its Midnight Madness Toronto premiere. But it brought the house down here, and should be a boon to the underdog Roku Channel when it arrives there in November.

Darius Campbell Danesh, a singer and West End actor known for reaching the runner-up position Pop Idol and other ITV talent competition appearances, has died in his apartment in Rochester, Minnesota.

ABC has given a put pilot commitment to 90’s Popstar, a drama based on This Is Us star Mandy Moore’s musical childhood, Deadline has confirmed. It hails from writer Amanda Lasher (The Bold Type), with Moore set to executive produce alongside This Is Us co-showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger. 20th Century Fox TV is the studio.

Written by Lasher, 90’s Popstar revolves around a family from small town Florida who must adapt to their extraordinary new reality when their teenage daughter goes from aspiring singer to pop superstar practically overnight.

Lasher executive produces alongside Moore, Aptaker, Berger, Adam Londy and Regina Lee. Marc Webb also will executive produce and direct.
