Hell’s Kitchen: Young Guns had one of the most controversial eliminations in the show’s history. The “Thermometer” scandal that led to chef Matthew Francis Johnson going home left fans at home stunned. So, what happened and where is the young chef now? Here’s what you need to know.
Gordon Ramsay Slammed Young Chef
In the second episode of the Hell’s Kitchen: Young Guns season, viewers saw Chef Matthew using a digital meat thermometer. This is something that is against the rules of being on the show. Contestants are not allowed to bring any outside tools or equipment into the competition kitchen.
Ultimately, Matthew got caught and Gordon Ramsay was furious. But, the icing on the cake was that, despite sneaking in a thermometer, Matthew still served Gordon raw chicken and lamb. Due to that and his overall low performance on the show, he got the boot.

The final four were challenged to create a stunning seafood dish to be featured in Entertainment Weekly, which Dafne Mejia won. At dinner service, each chef took turns running the pass while Gordon tested their attention to detail with sabotages. After sending the 24-year home, Gordon said, “There’s no doubt in my mind that Sommer is going to do great things in this industry. She’s definitely VIP in my book.”
We asked in a recent poll if Gordon made the right decision. Fans disagreed with his dismissal of the 24-year old line cook from Brooklyn, New York, with 55 saying Dafne deserved to go home instead. Sommer came in second with 38 of the vote.

At the end of episode 13 of “Hell’s Kitchen: Battle of the Ages” on January 26, the oven mitts came off when Cheyenne Nichols and Dafne Mejia were nominated for elimination. The black jacket chefs, who had both reached the final five, blamed each other for the night’s poor dinner service. Gordon Ramsay ultimately decided it was Cheyenne’s time to go, stating, “As the youngest chef in this competition, Cheyenne came a long way. Unfortunately for her, the ride ends a few stops short of Atlantic City.”
We asked in a recent poll if Gordon made the right decision and fans agree the 21-year old sous-chef from Spencer, Ohio deserved to be eliminated. In total, 47 of fans agree with his choice. It’s no surprise Dafne came in second with 38 of the vote.

At one point her fish station literally went up in flames before Gordon insisted she “calm down” before she endangered everyone in the kitchen. Eventually the entire Fab 5 was kicked out of the kitchen for their “embarrassing” performance.

A new French late show, fronted by popular actor, director and writer Alain Chabat launched on France’s TF1 amid much fanfare this week in the country’s latest attempt to crack the late-night talk show format.
Running Monday to Friday from 10.55 pm, Le Late Avec Alain Chabat kicked off on Monday (November 21), with the host joking in his opening spiel: “I nearly did this show in 2018, but it was during the World Cup in Russia, so it was a bit touchy. But now, it’s in Qatar, so tout va bien.”
The show was commissioned by TF1 Executive Vice President, Content Ara Aprikian to fill a late-night slot that opened up due to the timing of the Qatar World Cup soccer matches, earlier in the evening.
Chabat is no stranger to TV studio shows, having first found fame in the late 1980s as co-creator of popular Canal+ comedy sketch program Les Nuls,...
